Wrote a whole life story then thought stuff it... most of it has been stated already in previous threads.

I'm now 24 and 10mths old... just about to get married and just bought a GTR (that I paid for myself) I can understand the reaction to P's and powerful cars and in light of what happened today I would say that the laws in place are fine with me (I think I have had one of the most severe ass rams by VIC ROADS licencing laws) I will be 25 and 4 mths by the time I get on my full licence ( I have found that with P's on I would get pulled over much more than without.. so I take the risk and drive without, I would rather get dicked once a blue moon and pay fine than every fark'en week and keep riding this merry-go-round of extra months put on my P's (I have not put up my P's since 2001 and have only been pulled over twice in that time >. B4 that I was getting jacked every month without fail (not doing anything wrong "just a routine check sir")

Enough rant from me but this shit that happened could not have come at a worse time for all Skyline drivers and the majority of owner's who value their licence, cars and life!

Bloody idiots, yet another reason why 18-21 y.o's should be kept out of these cars!

I agree with your statement,

however......

there is nothing in the report that indicates the driver was under 21.

but, the 2 rear passengers that died were teenagers.

[edit]

I'm sure if it was a BMW or a Volkswagen, the media wouldn't have even mentioned the type of car,

But it doesn't make this any less tragic.

Hopefully there's a lesson to be learned.

Next time you have some friends in the back, and decide to "give it a splurt", imagine how you'd feel if you were the driver of that car, and you just killed your 2 best mates....

A slightly UPDATED article here http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/10/...6871847813.html, doesn't say age of driver or whether P plate though. It does mention names of victims...hopefully nobody's friends or family :)

It should also be noted that late this afternoon James (Vic President) was contacted by The Age to give a statement on behalf of the "Skyline Community".

One of the reasons we formed the Club was to promote driver awareness on the power and danger that the cars we love have. Again we ask that you guys be responsible and safe out there.

God I hope he didn't sent that in. Wait for the hackjob on that one... see above.

Another link from the General Section of these forums talks about the issues around Driver Training Courses [towards the end of the article] http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0...255E421,00.html

NismoR34 Thanx for the info on the Power to Weight i was unaware that it was so low... Once i finish the work im doing at the min i will look into getting a stock turbo to back my power off.... i know that my skyline is bloody heavier than norm and with the sound system i wanna try get as close to legal as possible....

I hope also that everyone learns from this and drives safer in aid to promote import drivers as one of the safest on the road.... It is also good to see that the government is going to look into driving courses for all drivers before they get their licence (hopefuly will be more than a look), something in which i believe is critical for all drivers... and to all P Plate skyline drivers out there take it easy guys and let your speed and aggression out on that track if you have to not on the road drive safe.....

thats just ****ed. heard it every hour while on the road today. its stupid that now im gonna have to hide my car for at least a week (police station on the way to work) just because of this shit. condelences to the parents and relatives, but ****, no sympathy for those idiots. UNLESS of course it wasnt drag racing or something they inteded to do illegally. otherwise, tough shit. like nark said, if you display stickers of skylines australia on your car and you decide to **** around against the law by speeding and racing, then consider yourself...well...raped by nark, he is a savage man.

Mavric what he is saying is that your car is overpowered from the factory which means the cops don't car if your running a turbo out of a kitchen blender or a T88 you will get done either way. They won't tell you to go to the dyno and test your car, they will look at the vehicale database, see that a stock skyline is over the power/weight ratio for a P plater and send you to court as it is a court going offense.

Anyone that tells you that if you detune your skyline and they will let you off is full of sh*t. Also I think we are looking over the fact that the reason they are not saying it's a high powered machine is that it was probably a shitbox 1980's Skyline that you can buy for $1500 since he had so many people in it and it was side by side with a shitty Honda that far down from the lights where they probably started to race and he is 18. Remember that for every hot R32, 33 and 34 there are a thousand shitty old 80's Skylines around

yes i have to agree with all of u ? and even know krzysiu is about to go on his p and he has a 250 kw 33 is not sounding good? just know the fact he might be abil to drive and drive well at the age of 18 just got his p im sure we where all tempting to do stupid things in our cars at that age ? so its a wonder why it should be that any one on p;s dont have anything thing that has a turbo or v8 at that. it should be enforced or make people do a advance driveing course  there is tomany people dyeing on the roads and its p plater thinking there the bomb ? ant they in for big shock yet there is some good p platers out there ? but its makeing to hard for us import drivers to go out and have a nice car and nice drive to injoy our rides as we are targets the min we take our wheels on the roads ?

Its more of a worriy when people buy the skyline straight away when they get their P's. As for me its a little different. I have driven the skyline for a year already and i learnt to respect its power and how to drive properly. I know how NOT to drive it becasue i know the slightest bit of acceleration can make it lose control (lost it on a round(got it back though thank god) about once when i pressed the accelerator 1mm more then i should have). Ive said this shitloads of times, its the atitude of the driver and not the car. You can kill yourself in anything you drive, it just depends on how you drive it.

Cheers

:werd: or those that think if you put some bags of concrete in the back you're all ok with the cops. Cop will laugh at you.. then book you, then laugh a little more, then maybe book you some more, and then call your mother.. then laugh at her for bringing you into this world :)

Actually did you know that they actually take the occupants out of the car and weigh them when you get pulled over? and if you weigh too little you have to go to maccas and eat 6 quarter pounders to bring up the weight a bit to the correct power to weight ratio. (true story)

:)

mate you might be right but my calculation on the 33 is you can have around 200kwrw to be just under the power to weight....

sorry mate, not true. They don't go by rear wheek kW but the stock flywheel figure. A R33 GTS-T *is* over the 125Kw to the tonne rule in Victoria for P platers.

What made you think that 200kWrw is ok?

    • thanks mate, one of the reasons I even bought it to be fair.
    • I found parts on EFI Solutions webshop that seemed to be the accurate ones. I haven't gotten around to fitting the turbos back on the car yet since I still have to deal with the shitty crack in the engine block. But I'm confident that the bolts I ordered will fit. According to EFI they are also 7-16/24. The reason M11x1 got involved here is because it is apparently very similar to 7-16/24.
    • Well, to be fair to the car I've driven it daily for almost a decade now, although in that time only put on 50k, as it just recently passed 100k miles early this year. For the most part its been fine because I've been able to source parts from AUS like jacks jdm and a few places in Japan, some things like pads have been easy since 300z pads swap right in... I realize its probably at that time in its life i should find a new DD (but I rent and only have so much space, no garage) so new cars just complicate things. As it is older though, I recognize its about that time as with my '67 GTO to maybe side step and find an alternative, but if i can keep driving it... I want to.   That said, I may just look into a local shop that might be able to, problem is the mechanic I work with has limited space as a mom and pop operation, and he's a busy busy man, so id need to find out if he can keep the car in the meantime, which may or may not be practical for him. Maybe I'll just buy one off jacks jdm and get that refurbed /shrug.. just looking at options and what others may have to offer for advice on the matter. Like I said, its hard finding people around here who actually have one, I've had mine 9 and a half years and I've met 3 others, and they are all military, one was oem from 95 with 30k miles (rip that car... guy got hit after someone crossed s double yellow, totaled it)
    • I've noticed my rear springs sag a bit compared to the fronts. I have stock springs and KYB struts. The front wheels are pretty consistent in their ride height, but compared to the front wheels, one of the rears sits 20mm lower, and the other 40mm lower. This negatively affects the ground clearance, and also angles the headlights up. What are some some economical options for new springs? Or information like good spring rates, lengths  in order to find a suitable replacement etc Far from lowering the car, I'd prefer to raise it a bit to keep it ground clearance friendly.
    • I searched for ages as well, I'm importing an engine to get the head off it.
