Hey guys,

I've got a question.

Barring all monetary and budgetary restraints, what would be the ultimate turbo for the RB25DET.

Not for ultimate power, as we all know you could just strap a monster to the side of it and make power from 6500 - 8000 rpm.

I'm especially interested in you tuners points of view, STT and SK.

Highest average output, best spooling etc. etc.

Interested to see answers.

Bass, just comes down to how much power you want out of your engine... just look for the quickest spooling turbo which can get you the power your after. 3037's will get you nice power but is it worth sacrificing it for better response?? its up to you

Bass Junky, it might help if you were to give an approximate rwkw figure.

I would have thought 250-300 rwkw is enough, as I have not seen anyone with more than this get it down smoothly on a street car (but I may be wrong) IMHO over 300 rwkw is 4 wheel drive territory unless you are into lots of wheel spin and chewing up tyres.

I also realise that the shape of the power curve will allow cars with less power to light up, but a properly tuned (smooth and progressive power curve) motor with this sort of power should be drivable on the street.

Probably a nice low mount GT2540. Good response, minimal lag, and nice and stealthy low mounted. :)

You gotta be kidding, the 2540 is one mismatched comp/exhaust side turbo ever.

Bass

For an example at sandown on that sunday running around 255rwkw with my GT30 0.70 a/r comp 0.87 a/r exh i found that coming onto either the front or back straights at around 60 km/h in 3rd at around 3000rpm i had lag issues till i hit just over 4000rpm and came onto boost. If i took these 2 corners in 2nd instead i found that i would get wheel spin and axle tramp instead. I went for a ride in skylinegeoffs car before that and he could use 3rd coming onto those straights with his 'hydrid' turbo and come on boost straight away, but my car felt alot quicker on the straights.

Do you plan on joining the wang soon or just street driving?

I'm with B-Man.

The 2835ProS is an awesome turbo that is just right for the stocker internals.

Excellent response & average power.

To push upwards of 280rwkw od I would either do cams to lower bring the dynamic comp ratio to a safer limit or slap a thicker head gasket in there which effectively also lowers dynamic comp.

Obviously a set of injectors are on the cards.. But thats nothing a set of second hand GTR injectors + a resistor pack can't solve.

So... I would..

2835ProS

Nice FMIC & Exhaust

GTR injectors & Resistor Pack

Fuel pump

PowerFC

Z32 AFM

See how the power is then look at cams to make the motor a little safer and also increase the average power. :D

What do you guys think of the HKS GT-RS, for track use. Rated at 400ps , the hks GT2835 Pro S is rated at 420ps.

Seen it on nengun as a bolt on kit for the RB25det's

http://www.nengun.com/product_info.php?pro...4b067d1b19ad51a

So theres not much more difference between the gtrs and the 2530..And the 2535 is the turbo to go for for decent response excellent mid and good top end for rb25.

Spewing we will have to wait and see what croat can pull out of his hat.I was allready like this turbo is the one for me.What sort of price can the hks 2530 2535 etc be recoed back up for??

:)

With everything else in order, so you get the most out of the turbo in its efficiency range.. probably 2835 Pro or 30xx series

you should choose the best turbo for your intended/current setup, not the best turbo in general for rb25det

or something like that :)

hey peter that turbs doesnt look too bad!

Ide like to see some info on its actuall performance on rb20/5 sr20 etc

building a RB25DET with a TD06-25G, nice laggy turbo with good topend power, and a misfiring system to keep the turbo spooling while I'm off the throttle. The one that I've bought is a metal sleeve thingamajiggy (can't remember the name) so its not steel bearing or ceramic, and can withstand a lil bit more punishment than a standard turbo.

As a standard swap/upgrade for a R33 RB25DET i'd say get a 2530, but I dunno how they react to RB25DET Neo's.

    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
    • Probably. I take it that they are also mentioned to be for R34 Skyline? For example.... RDA has that part as RDA7957. I have the dimpled and slotted version of that on my car https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/285518478694?srsltid=AfmBOopKxMuAFpsxZJdB1cam4D5RAj1f9yJyOttPZLAwXVNCOiwlhrIy This is DBA's top one piece equivalent https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364246686631?srsltid=AfmBOorbb0XHQgqTvZLgQPhg70nqJtGvdojKnugum3O2LFSr2h-obp8D
