Come on Rosco - if you can get the boys to get your car ready then there is no reason not to come to PI. Its the widest track in Vic and by far the best surface. We also had last year a number of the crew doing their first track outting there. And none of them had any problems.

So there's no issues in my mind about it being ok for beguiners. BUT it is a track that takes some time to get your best out of. Most of us took several days before we stopped taking time off as it is a track you have to get to know and gain confidence on.

I found a couple of times my gearbox pop out of its 3rd gear, leaving me revving with no thrust.... i had to push in and hold it there with my hands while de-clutching. this particularly happen during fast heel-toe downshifting...

Worn 3rd gear synchro??

Troy: think i was top of 2nd, changing to 3rd up the top of the hill... around 110-120

Bec: whos video caught me spinning ? capture it and send it to me :)

Ferni - yeah I got that on my camera - Chris captured it all yesterday - I'll get him to get it to you somehow.

Ant - to be honest I have no idea - I was so knackered by the time it started to get dark that the only 2 things I definately know we got footage of was:

A) Ferni spinning out

B) Andrew shooting flames for 200m or so going into turn 1

Besides that - I got no idea what is on there - but you are more than welcome to any of the footage you want - perhaps I might be able to work something out for the next schnitzel meeting.

Oh yeah and while I remember - a massive thanks to Al for having us back at your place for dinner/drinks after the event.

3rds :)

There is nothing like the hospitality of a Maltese household:)

And while im on the topic of thanks...a big :) to skylinegeoff and Mrs skylinegoeff for:

- the garage space,

- their patience,

- their putting up with my whining and at times defeatest attitude,

- my pi55 poot taste in movies:(

- lending a hand and tools and materials

- far too good a quality meals and Tooheys News with the occasional XXXX

- bed and did i mention meals?

- lifts to/from the station....etc etc

Ppl that have met the man, know this already, but he is about the happiest and most helpful guy getting around...even if of late he has had to be medicated:(

So all up i spent about 50-60hrs getting the car in the condition it was at Calder, and all up including all the oils, insulation, towing etc the thing cost me about $900 to fix....without Geoffs help it would have been more like $4,000-5,000...

Can you pick the difference? Before...

So a very public and very sincere thanks:) May all your camels have good teeth:)

I'm pissed I missed it. I just know my 30th's I had to go to weren't up to Team Wang standards. I will post up in the PI thread but I can see the need for maybe staying down there both Friday and Sat night after next round and have a good one!

:)

synchro's are for getting it INTO gear... not sure what it is if its not staying in gear?

Yeah i suspect its my 3rd gear synchro.... it doesnt crunch though on down shift, it just pops back sometimes if i dont keep my hands there and i de-clutch rather sudden. probably the shockwave sends it popping out of 3rd. 5th to 4th downshift there was a crunch at end of main straight, even with heel-toe

PMSL - dont panic Andrew - Team Wang was up late but was also surprisingly well behaved at Al's seeing as we (by we I mean the boys) all had to drive home.

But I will 2nd the above motion!!! :D

rs73: sounds like it will be that, not the syncro..

probbaly not what you wanted to hear tho :D

Yeh I know.... on daily basis havent gave me much problem for the past 1.5 yrs...

Is it worth fixing or not? Worst case scenario at least a replacement Gts-t gearbox is not as expensive as GTRs. I'd probably need to learn to downshift more gently...

Well done SAU for a big turnout at the wrx club and well behaved too , my name is adam ( rs liberty club and commonwhore driver) and i met andrew( snowman) and a few others at the wrx club motorsport meeting and due to the commo not being ready a was helping with the driver training for the day .

The skyline boys attracted a heap of attention throughout the day ( i hope you guys dont mind all the photos of your rides being taken)and im sure most poeple are looking out for a GTR grudge match between snowman and frank in the near future . Having all the associate cars sure makes the event interesting and im looking forward to seeing you guys at the rest of the events .

The only thing worth mentioning is that its a good idea to work out where the pit entry is as a few of you guys got caught out and missed it and proceeded very s l o w l y around the track :D , but im sure the clark of course would have had a friendly chat to you

adam

Was a great day, good to see quite a few of the SAU boys at the meet, will only get bigger and better...

As a first timer, I'd learnt quite a bit about circuit racing, even though my times weren't that crash hot, but I just wanted to ease into the whole concept of going really fast around a track with nice concrete walls around!!!! Also most of you would know that I picked my car up from Ben's the night before (engine rebuild), so I didn't want to give a really hard time.... was more concentrating on race line, braking and the limits of semi comp tyres...

Oh well, with a little more practice and much more confidence the times will only get better...

Can't wait for the next one!!!!!

    • Welcome mate. Any pics? Even with a DE I'd be well happy if I had that as a 1st car.
    • lol the 2nd one boss, thank you for pointing this out. I feel as i spend more time here this intro message is some thing i will always make me laugh and shake my head at. Perfect Intro:  I have the vehicle
    • R34DE as in R34 with an RB25DE? So did you get this? Or you planning to?  I'm not really sure what you're saying.
    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
