liksang has put up a pretty neat translation guide to help you get through the menus..

Hey Rezz: Have you tried saving a high res shot from the game and saving it to a usb memory stick in 1080i res?? Just want to see if its as spectacular as the earlier promo shots that were put out. Apparently the game runs nicely in 1080 during the races?? That would be incredible to watch..

Stevie: It seems Yamaouchi Kazunori thinks the only whales worth having in the game are GT-R whales... sorry. R32 GTS-t Type M's are in though (woohoo - I've already made a 'look-alike' thats just like my car).

predator: Whats 1080i? I haven't realy changed any graphics setting yet bar the 16:4 screen ratio.

mmmgtir: haven't seen the GTi-R yet... but it could be in the game? It's hard to say because the 'Used Car' section changes vehicles every 10 days or something, so you might miss seeing a particular car for quite a while, only to have it pop up 3 years after you bought the game hehehe :)

Yeah, I thought it may be hard to tell at this stage. I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not it made it in the game. I guess I'll just have to wait and see :)

liksang.com has it for $100 shipped to australia if anybody is interested.. not too bad.

lol - funny that they have the r32 gts-t and not the r33.. they must really have a thing against the R33 over there :D

I was reading that the game outputs 1080 x xxx (not sure what the vertical size is) resolution - high definition, if you have a nice large TV and the correct connectors. So you basically get the full resolution rendered inside the PS2, not the downsampled resolution that you get with standard (480i) mode? It says that its viewable in the presentation mode (where you can view and print your cars on a usb printer), and the actual race, but not the menus?

I believe only the japanese ps2 is able to output a full high definition signal. Just curious as to whether you had seen it or tried it.

I got a little further in the game...

Theres a circuit called 'Circuite de la Sarthe', it is and absolutely awesome track, rather like the 'Isle of Man' bike race circuit but for cars. In it you can hold the exelerator down for 2 -3 mins full throttle in the LM cars = speeds of about 370 -380km/h... "so what" I hear you say? Well in GT4 the sensation of 300km/h+ speeds has improved sooooooooo much, you'll almost crap yourself everytime you get in a real racing car!!!! Seriously, this is THE ultimate car simulation, bar none :D

I also got the 'Carbon R'... built by Power House Amuse, it's a carbon bodied R34 GT-R with 600ps standard. It has spectacular handling on the circuit, well, with only 1100kg to lug around it had better handle good!

... and I also got the 'Toyota 7'. It's a 1970 Can-Am category car... this car is really special... in 1970 it had: carbon fibre and FRP body, twin-turbo 5000cc V8 (check out the pics to see the crazy turbo placement!!! Talk about a short exhaust pipe!) pushing out 800ps @ 8000rpm all in a 620kg chassis!!!

I love this game... I can't put it down.

I reckon that turbo placement is bloody genius (for a race car). get some nice cooling air over the turbs, short exhaust tract, possible flameage. all positives imo.

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
