Hey Guys

I was wondering are we allowed or is it legal to have a thread dedicated to bad experiences with panel beaters, Mechanics ,Alarm installers etc

I just think it would be a good idea to put the company name , location and a brief description of what happen with the company

So when someone is getting something done to their car they can check the thread to stay clear from companies people have PERSONALLY had a bad experience with

any feed would be good on this issue!!!!

ive just had a bad experince with a pannel beater too i mean ive taken it back so many times and cant get it right

If there was a thread dedicated for these types of issues that would be great

i mean i could had some sort of warning

it is freedom of speech but the question is , is it legal to judge a company and let others know !!!!

like tosh said forum rules are no naming dodgy places or experiences.

But there is no rule against posting everything about what happened without naming them....people can then PM you if they need to know the name

yeah you guys are right, there is a grey area, but we are just trying to protect the forums. As things stand now there has not been a sucessful action taken against the forums and we would like to keep it that way.

Certainly if you are concerned about a thread please use the second button at the bottom of each post "Report" which sends an email to the appropriate mods.

Man its just so frustrating i mean i paid so much money to get my car fixed

At this smash repair and ive taken the car back 3 times still not fixed properly

i have to spend more money taking it somewhere else now,

and consumer affairs cant do anything about it only make the smash repairs fix it

how ever I just know for a fact they will do something to the car.

What I would love is to get my money back.

Really these companies have been doing this sort of stuff for years and getting away with it.

The biggest kick in the teeth was the smash repairer refusing to fix the car and also making threats.

I would love to go out in a blaze of glory with these people but really its just metal in the end of the day.

Babylon,

I am pretty sure under consumer law, you must give the panel beater the opportunity to make goo dht erepairs that you are not satisfied with. It sounds like you have done this 3x. Now there is one of 2 things happening here: Either you are too picky and cannot be satisfied or The job done is crap and they cannot get it right.

I would suggest that you get a 2nd and 3rd opinion on the work done, get it in writing from another panel beater. Armed with this info, go back to the origional place and ask them what they want to do about it. If they do not give you a satifactory response, pay to get it fixed by another place. Then you can sue the panel beater who messed up the work.

The Dpt. of Fair Trading should give you similar advice. You can also contact the Motor Trade Association (MTA) and make a formal complaint about the workshop.

Do not give up, if you paid you hard earned for a propper job and did not get it, do not just rollover and accept it. Kick some butt :kick:

for the record we have no problem with members who post bad experiences on this forum.

BUT DO NOT NAME ANY NAMES AT ANY STAGE.

you are entitled to speak your mind so feel free to do so. Leave out names and if people wish to know who it was then invite them to send you a PM or email or whatever and you may name names in private.

hope that clears it up

As I said before though, the problem isn't necessarily the legality of saying something defamatory as under Australia law you can make "fair comments" to the public (being us) about anybody or any company (I also point out that companies are even less protected than people) as long as you give a full summary for the reasons you have for reaching that conclusion and it is a fair comment to make on the facts presented.

HOWEVER, the fact remains that the costs involved with defending an action like that are astronomical and would more than likely be enough to severely damage this fine institution. That is why the amazingly charitable individuals that run these forums exercise the discretion not to allow us to run around (legally) defaming people through their publication.

So my suggestion is that out of the goodness of our hearts lets do what the wise men say... just my 2.2c as a law grad.

Oh, and as 4doorGTR said if you are unsure seek professional advice from a TPA lawyer or the Dept of Fair Trading... you never have to take anything lying down.

Cheers,

Jae

  • 3 weeks later...

I remember a long time ago, that Overclockers Australia was the recipient of legal action due to comments someone made about a vendor. Caused the forums to go down for a long time as they pursued it through the system.. Read this for more info..

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
