WRX Club - Rnd 2 - Phillip Island - March 12

Kewl.

Just rang tyre joint, and post poned. I was figuring more rubber equaled better grip. Was thinking if i had to replaced them soon, i may as well take advantage of them.

Speaking to my dad, he reckins your suppose to wear in the tyre before going fast too. Also said they will give sooner, than later, so less speed to worry about if something wants to spin. But then he is hallucinating with flu, and thought i was drifting or something this weekend.

Anyway, will leave things alone for the moment. Still the tyres will get worn one way or another =(

I dunno about wearing hte tyre in before going to fast, as Al said, they have a coating that needs to be worn off before the full grip comes about supposedly.

As tyres wear down thier grip level decreases as well, but what roy was saying with street rubber when it heats up the little blocks start to move and you car feels 'squirmy' or a bit loose, mine feels that way once my street rubber warms up on the track.

BTW - the weather forecast for the weekend is currently awesome so it looks like beach conditions for those staying the weekend. (High 20's all 3 days currently)

So this means if anyone has a vortex it will be required.

Also - anyone coming have a skiffle board????? Would love to have a go!

Ok time is runing out, can someone tell me what time we'll be leaving on friday to PI? Where to meet up and stuffs?

Reason is TROY ( YLWGTR ) changing my brake pads this friday so i need a bit of an idea so i can organise timing...ect

Can someone post up a pic of where would be best and easy to mount my exstinguisher? ROY you've got my bonnet restrain in your boot right  ? Thanks mate.

Andrew can you please check if my name is on the list for PI? I'm in the AWD standard class right? Do i need that racing fuel you mentioned a bit earlier? This might be stupid but do they have BP there on Track? Do i need a full tank before we leave on friday?

Speaking of which, saw him at Race Brakes on monday. Funny to see a baby seat in the back of a GTR.

There are some pictures of how to mount on the floor in front of the passenger seat posted back in october. Is a bit of fiddle,so wouldnt leave til last minute. Unless your planning to mount straight to the floor, and not rails.

Denham, I was there yesterday, it's a whole 5 minutes away so I'll grab it if they have it in stock.

Roy, done. It'll have to be Friday. I have my mate up from Traralgon Thurs.

Running just a bit behind with the work. Took longer than I wanted with the intake fabrication to the turbos and I need extra bends for the turbo outlets. Stupid GTR's run 38 mm outlets that go to 62mm(2-1/2") then to 83mm (3-1/4") which I then have to take back to 62mm to suit my piping. I also want to reroute the piping to my throttle. Might have to get the tune tomorrow.

Someone else in AWD Standard class YAY - What car do you have? a GTR i'm assuming?

Fire extinguisher, undo the bolt at the bottom of your back seat, put the bracket then, and put bolt back in, done.

You don't NEED race fuel, it just makes it a bit safer, the more power you run/the more on edge your tune is, the more you should use race fuel, I don't use it. This is the first time Andrew will be using it (i think).

They have BP Ultimate on the islande (not at the track, but in Cowes) Its up to you how you sort out your fuel, you will go through it very quickly on the track. I wouldn't have an abosultly full tank for the track because you may find it slushes around and leaks out your petrol cap like it did to Andrew last time i was at PI. So maybe half to three quaters on the track, once you get low go fill up at BP in Cowes. I'll probbaly fill up before i leave for the track on saturday morning, drive the 100ks or so to the track, and race, fill up half way through the day when needed.

Ok - updated list is available.

West - you are on it. But I notice there is no Jack Blanas!!!!

Anyways - there are 13 SAU members currently on the list plus a couple of extra skylines that we might have to convert during the day. Aaron its your job to get Frank to join the club! LOL.

As for the meet up on Friday night. Chris was supposed to be looking after this as I have to get there early (before 5pm) to get the house keys.

However - my suggestion will be to meet at the Bunnings Car Park - Cranbourne - located on the corner of the South Gipsland Hwy and Thompsons Road at 8pm (Melways Ref 129 H9). Its a fair way out of town but it will be an easy cruise together from there (about 1 hr from there to PI). If anyone that wants to cruise down on Friday night doesnt think they can make it to cranbourne by 8pm please say so now. Reminder again to those staying that you will need bed linen!

West - most of us have mounted our extinguishers simply by using the rear seat-bolt mounted through the braket. The seat bolt is located such that if you were sitting in the back seat the extinguisher would be resting against your calf muscles.

Hey ferni - depending on what tyres Jeff runs you may be competing against a Targa Spec R33 GTR N1. This is a car and driver that came 3rd in Targa Tas one year! :)

But I somehow expect Jeff to run semi's so that will let you off the hook. Either way you now have at least 3 guys in your class because your mate pontiff's B4 is AWD.

Also - Wayne who's the co-driver?

I just sent you a PM, I stuffed up the form, Bruce would like to be a passenger only, he does not have a drivers licence yet, still to keen on motorbikes. I need him to be removed from group 2.

hahah it would be good if he did run street rubber, i wouldn't be able to keep up with him but it would set some good times for me to aim for

Looks like an interesting group we are in:

2 Bevan Jeremy Skyline Associate 46

2 Conrad Tim WRX Associate 19

2 Dean Andrew Skyline Associate 34

2 Hede Greg MX5 Associate 45

2 McHenry Mark HSV Associate 20

2 Nowlan Anthony Skyline Associate 47

2 Pausler Mark RS Associate 42

2 Priestley Bruce Skyline Associate 165 - Shared with Wayne Sterling

2 Richmond Andrew Nissan GTR Associate 40

2 Thomson Chris Skyline Associate 77

2 Wehner Craig HSV Associate 123

MX5, HSVx2, RS, B4, the 2 angry white/blue gtr's (Andrew/Chris), Ant in his gtst, maybe me and Ant can have some good runs :D I'm not sure who Bruce or Jeremy are?

ferni - Bruce is infact not running. There was an entry form mistake. Maybe if Jack gets off his ass and sends his form in he will take his spot in our group.

Jerermy Bevan - unless he has changed cars recently - will be driving a dark green stock looking 200SX (S14) that you will get upset by when he kicks your ass. Not a SAU member but I remember being beaten by him at Sandown last year when I first started out and thinking WTF??? As mentioned it LOOKS completely stock. Even has the stock (aka POX) S14 rims on it still. He used to run in the MSCA track events. If he's in the 200SX he was lapping the Island last year in the 1.53's. Ultimate track sleeper.

    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
