if the engine check light stays on it means a sensor is out of range, not working or giving incorrect values. when you see it on, look at ETC, SENSOR SW CHECK and look for any sensor names with a black background around its name. this indicates the fault sensor

if you enable the boost kit for enable and dont have the map sensor harness connected the engine check light will be on and BOST under SENSOR SW CHECK will be highlighted, indicating the boost map sensor isnt working or out of scope (ie: its not plugged in)

hey paulR33.

its ok to run the GTST with a PFC. but if ur only commuting will it be economical to run it with the stock ecu. i wont have time or money for a tune. so just wondering. is ther any real world figures. my GTR averages 12-15 p/100kms. what will a base map PFC on a GTST yeild?

Just installed mine and can I say how much better the base maps over a the standard ECU. Teh car feels so much more reponsive now...shift from 3rd and 2nd and the thing just launches!!!

Now to get a tune........

I was wondering if there was a way I could display my oil temp on the PFC. Maybe I could use the Air flow temp function to measure the oil temp via a sandwich plate? Do you know if this is possible Paul?

Hi there paul, great job on the thread mate its damn helpful, ive just installed my PFC into my r33 GTST 2 days ago with the assistance of your information, the car feels a tad better than the factory computer, im saving to get a tune, hopefully with in the next couple of weeks

I've noticed on start up one of the two relays which are mounted behind where the computer sits, clicks about 4-5 times as soon as i turn the reds on and the hand controller flashes with the clicks.

It done the same thing the morning after the install while driving with the engine cold turning right out of my street it clicked 4-5 times and i nearly got stuck in the middle of the road, once it warms up it doesnt do it while driving, but will still do it on start up, and the hand controller works fine.

I've plugged the factory computer back in just to check if the clicking still occurs and it doesn't.

I also swapped the clicking relay with 3 other relays and they all done the same

The clicking of the relay really has me stumped i cant think what could cause it, but its definately related to the PFC, something is switching the relay on and off really quick, any help you could give me would be fabulous and appreciated

The car is not heavily modified just a full exhaust, FMIC, cold air intake, 10psi boost and a walbro 500hp fuel pump

The PFC was brand spankers in the box.

Check all of your fuses below the dash on the drivers side. Don't just check they are all ok, check they are all there. I attached the pic of the english translation of it. I was missing the electrics or engine control one.

Go through the PFC FAQ it has a section on problems with clicking relays

Just like to say, Great FAQ dude.

Once finding out that the R33 PFC's were being discontinued, i raced out and brought one today, just tuning now. Only paid $1500 so happy with that given the situation.

PS. Anyone looking for one? Maybe contact JJR, i got mine there and there were about 2 more and 1 2nd hand, although the new ones were apparently sold! But still waiting there for pickup

fry is correct, i would start there and check what he has mentioned.

i have never heard or seen a PFC click 3 or 4 times before boot up and come online normally.

usually if you have clicking relays its toast and never works. am surprised it works

Just because the factory computer runs fine doesn't mean the Apexi will. My car with standard ECU was running fine without the fuse I mentioned, the apexi wouldn't work. The standard ECU's tend to be less fussy with some missing signals and weak power.

If all your fuses are there and fine you may need to start looking at your wiring.

Pin 58 (black with white stripe wire near bottom of harness i think) needs to have a good 12V going to it. Just unplug your ECU harness and check this with a multimeter.

While you are at it check pins 50 and 60 (2 black wires on the bottom of harness I think) and make sure they are good earths.

Thats a starting point.

    • The cross sectional area of a circular hole scales with the square of diameter. So a 2mm diameter hole is 4x the area of a 1mm hole. Not double. The 1.7mm hole is nearly 3x the area of a 1mm hole. You do not need restrictors at both ends of the oil supply line. If you have new, additional restrictors at the turbo end, that you did not have before, then you do not need a restrictor at the inlet end.
    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist

    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
