Wow, Initial D is right.... I thought it was just a cartoon. :(.

hah i must say im a initial d fan takumi is my hero haha na but really love watching the cartoon.

i dont reckon im co ordinated enough to brake with left while my right is just sitting there i wouldnt be able to do it i dont think. i spose ive never tried plus my cars manual and ive always used my right foot

theres not really much point using 2 feet, unless you need to stall it up for a quick take off...

I wouldnt get into the habit of left foot braking cos when u switch to manual u'll poo it up

ur mate sounds like a ricer if he thinks its gonna make a big difference

someone mentioned emergency braking and putting down both feet was dangerous etc, but i know when driving a manual and say a cat darts out in front my me i tend to brake+clutch at the same time for that split second.. if someone is left foot braking what would happen if they have the same habit as me and brake+accel? that wouldnt be too good..

im a right foot braker, even in autos, even when parking (autos usually roll forward themsevles quick enough for parking even without acceleration.. whats yer hurry !? :))..

shaun.

it would be more dangerous.................you wouldnt need it in day to day driving, it's a bad habit...........you dont really need to go 0.01sec faster then the other guy at the lights.

the first time i hopped into a car to drive i put the left foot on the brake out of habit from playing to much Datoyna USA.

if you took up rally or something though thats a different story.......

ive been left foot brakin since i was 17 cause i used to drive an XF and idle was really shitty so  i had to do it to keep the revs up.  havent stopped since especially now that i drive manual cause my left foot needs to be doing something.  im quite proud that i can brake smoothly with my left foot but ii find it bloody unco braking with the right foot driving an auto which is wierd cause thats what you noramally do in a manual anyways....strange.

ah yes its a dying art that only few of us ever practiced :)

As well left foot braking is almost mandatory to go fast in a rally car. It's a skill. Greg is just too old to get rid of bad habits :)
I certainly use it in competition to stabilise the car through corners. But I thought this thread was about driving around town - that's why I made the comment I did.

Anyone who uses the "it gives me a poofteenth of a second reaction time advantage" excuse is STILL driving too close to the car in front, and isn't reading the traffic correctly.

Little bit scared of people who use left foot braking in a manual.. What the hell is controlling the clutch?

When it really comes down to it, you dont need the clutch to change gears except in and out of first.

But I meant in corners where you do not have to change gears. Of course if you get it wrong and have to come to a complete halt you will stall every time. Motorkhana is a great example, as long as you don;t have to come to a complete halt you do not need the clutch foot at all.

And of course it makes a hge difference on the track if you are trying to deal with understeer, or are on a track with long sweeping corners

they way i look at it... manual cars allow u to use engine braking and gear selection to help balance the car when your cornering. in auto cars you loose this ability, gears can change mid corner and unload the chassy. i use left foot braking to negate this, but thats only if im driving in the hills for example (not speeding just making the car balanced through the corner)

in city driving, no point using left foot so i dont, and only brake with my right (if i happen to be driving an auto)

Little bit scared of people who use left foot braking in a manual.. What the hell is controlling the clutch? Or do you coast in "angel gear" (neautral)... Thats twice as dangerous as having +1 second reaction time IMHO.

Um your left foot is controlling the clutch! It is possible to shift without the clutch if necessary on the track of course doubt you would bother in everyday driving but sometimes it livens up an otherwise boring drive!!

No clutch for changing gears... hmmmm.... I m yet to practice that. I tried with limited success switching between 3rd and 4th and it seemed pretty hard.

its easy if you time it right, not sure if this has been mentioned allready but you can downshift without the clutch aswell as upshifting, its a bit harder tho, you really have to know the correct rpm your trying to change to for that gear and speed

Well it's the upshifting that I can't get right. I've been double-clutching all my manual driving life, so i can do the no clutch downshift alright-ish. Now that I am thinking about it... by the same token when upshifting, you need to take it out of the lower gear, wait for the engine to come down to the correct rpm for the higher gear and stick it in... Might try that "at home".

    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
