I hit about 210 in my car when it only had about 170rwkw, and it was still pulling hard. I think it would have easily hit around 230-240. I also got taken for a drive in a Zeni Tani worked GTSt with 255 rwkw. With 4 of us in the car we hit 250 on the Nismo speedo before we had to back off for a corner. It was pulling out so easily, it would have gotten at least 270 (plus it had an 8000 redline, so who knows?).

Jeff.

While sort of on the topic of top speeds....

Whats the longest u guys actually drive on the speed limiter for ?

I think im doing about 4,500rpm @ 190km/h @ 7psi in 5th Gear and its pulling as hard as 2nd gear would.

I've driven mine about 5km before backing off, but now that i have done an oil change (after exactly 10,000km on the old oil) i'm alittle more confident that it can take it easier.

The ride is dead smooth and you can -literally- take your hands of the wheel and just sit back and relax. (while watching the fuel level drop like a $2 hooker on a Saturday night).

Yeah, who knows about speedo error but generally i think mine was on target because i did a test once on the hume on that measure speed points and it was bang on at 110km/hr like the speedo was saying.

R31 - "box on wheels" = plenty of drag = unlikely to reach 220+km/h.

A speedo might "seem" accurate tested via a few road signs on the side of the f/way. It might also be close @ 100-110km/h but that doesn't mean it's still accurate @ 180+km/h. Most speedos have non-linear error.

I think you'd be fairly surprised to see just how inaccurate your car speedo was when tested via a known calibrated measuring device. Especially @ high speeds.

Talking of high speed I just heard from a good source that a recent magazine speed test had a production CSV Commodore register 286km/h on a speed gun!

how do u guys get to that speed?? i mean when im going above 140-160 the car starts to feel very drifty ... as if the hicas is acting up ... do u all have ur hicas on?? i'm going to get my steering looked at soon but it feels as if its sliding on ice ... too scary for me :P

I feel safer sitting in 5th @ 190km/h with no traffic around on the motorway then i do when driving in 2nd doing 50 in peak hour traffic coming to work.

no movement

the only noises are the wind resistance

engine purring at about 5,000rpm

brrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmm

But the only caveat is you **** up you die.. that don't happen at 50km/hr but a drive at that speed stresses me more I agree in terms of a stupid accident, etc. There are so many people that just have never ventured onto the highway, don't drive appropriately for the conditions in peak hour, blah, blah.

I've got a stupid thing where if I'm driving the speed limit I lose attention very quickly and my mind wanders because i'm not thinking about the driving then. My mind just turns off, its scary. If I'm going fast, I'm thinking every step along the way... Its totally different. Its something about endorphins and things, i dunno..weird

Scary...any car can do that speed comfortably... even my ancient Sigma did that. The only car that made me feel unsafe was a daihatsu which really would not feel safe about 100km! I'd get your steering, suspension, control arms, etc looked at professionally. If something goes wrong at that speed (something snaps) well you can imagine..you will be flying sideways off the road and not in a fun way

Yeah, when you're going fast, your so busy watching for cops that you can't fall asleep!:bahaha:

Memories of my old R33 GTST boat on a runway in Goulburn for the SAU nationals.

I tried to find the results, times and speed, but to no avail.

If I recall I was only a couple of kmph short of overall top speed, some shops R34, blue one?? beat me, it was the one that took the 4WD trophies anyway.

I recall calling shenanigans on their speed IIRC.

Their fasted run was a run they never did.

Allegedly

LOL

That car was a love hate relationship.

Spent more time broken than running if I recall.

It triggered me and made my eye twitch when I saw it at the GTR festival at WSID this year.

It did go good in a straight line, but not so good around corners, but that was more to do with the low grade nut behind the wheel.

Couple weekends ago at the track I got 230kph in 4th gear, needed a longer straight to click 5th

What rev limit, gearbox and diff ratio? Whats 5th top speed?

Ive got 214 max in 4th at 8000 rpm with a ppg rb25 box (still 1:1) 4th and 4.11 diff... have been looking into diff ratios

Diff is a 4.081 and gearbox is a 26 dogbox and have never needed to use 5th as there isn’t a track here. Rev would have been up around the 8500rpm as rev limit is set to 8900rpm

    • Hopefully it ends up being something manageable, like a hone, rather than a full bore—it would be a huge relief if it’s not as bad as it looks. Hang in there; these setbacks are annoying, but it sounds like you’re handling it as smartly as possible.
    • At the end of the day, it’s all about understanding the odds and being comfortable with the potential cost, whether it’s horsepower on a build or chips on a roulette table. And I have to say, the Laine example made me laugh—some people really do embrace that carefree, “roll and see” attitude!
    • Thanks MBS206, i got that PDF but got abit overhelm with all the connections and tracing of wires. I wasn't expecting to plug the dash harness anywhere. i was just going to use my electronics jumper wires to plug into the right pins like ECU power, ecu ground, ignition trigger etc... I do have a few ratchet straps locking it down tight. Fire extinguisher ready and only a small amount of fuel at a time, enough to submerge the pump.
    • Thanks GTSBoy, i will do abit more digging. I am missing a blue relay near the ECU connector... so i will chase that up in the next few days as well
    • https://yariksteel.ru/manual/R33/Skyline_R33_elektroprovodka.pdf   Page 18 should be what you want for the Dash Cluster wiring. Though, you don't need the dash plugged in to get the motor running. What you want is power as how GTSBoy said. You need to power the ECU. Find in the above link the ECU pin outs (Verify them before just connecting them up from things written on the internet). Find anything needing power, give it power, find anything needing ground, give it ground. Then give the starter motor power through a big cable, and bridge the solenoid on the starter straight to power too.  ECU will be on, and when you give the starter power, it'll spin the starter motor, and it should start. I also hope you have a proper stand, and not just the engine sitting on some wood. You will want it bolted down properly.
