I just saw another episode in the SAGA on Hoons. Once again modified cars were blamed for rowdy plebs who aggrevate Police. This particular instance showed a bunch of idiots from Sydney abusing police, grannted some of them owned imports and other assorted modified cars, but I don't see how this can be blamed for all the things that these guys do wrong. ACA even went as far as saying two guys were shot dead as a result of "Hoons."

They interviewed a Senior Police official in NSW and he said the best way to stop these guys acting the way they do is to take their modified cars away from them!

Now I'm no expert in criminal behaviour or psychology but I definatley know that taking a car off a person will not stop them from abusing police, acting violently towards others and even killing other people. I'd say this kind of behaviour had developed and occured long before any of these people even held a drivers license!

But once again innocent car enthusiasts cop the blame.

Strange isnt it, you can get done for DUI, or in excess of 0.05, and what happens? but if you dare do a burnout, TAKE THE CAR.

When will they learn, its the peanut behind the wheel that does the damage, not the car.

Hey I know, if someone goes and discharges a firearm in a built up area - we shoud just take the gun off them for a couple of days! I'm bloody brilliant, lets get the pollies to pass a new law!

Tonights episode was pretty bloody transparent, I hope the majority of people who watched noticed it too - then again, maybe I misjudge the public at large????

Police are not educated.

That's not true. Police in Australia have no power. It's the same stories with teachers, teachers can't do shit and the kids know it. So they act up, then they get to 'real' life the continue doing it knowing they can get away with whatver they want.

There is no point arguing this. It happens everytime stupid shows like ACA and Today Tonight air their crap. no good comes of it, you just get a heap of heated arguements.

Of course you could write into ACA, but they won't acknowledge you, cause you are a hoon, and might go shoot them, cause all hoons are killers.

classic line from that report...."its a random lebo check"

what a bunch of dumbasses! negative stereotypes is what kills it for the rest of us. those who aggrevate the police only make it worse for everyone else. The police are there for a reason....and that reason is there are too many wankers on the roads. If you are caught on the roads by the poilce for doing something dodgey, then you are not being victamised. end of story. just dont stuff it up for everyone else!

Totally agree there eXc.

The only option is a semi fascist govt. ppl dont know whats good for em anyway.

Cam: would be nice, yeh we do have alot of people but how many of them actually turn up and get heard? around 1-2% id say. The recent rally aust thing shows this, we should have had 10 times the amount of people there.

Is it me or are imports and the whole car scene gaining popularity these days? fast and furious and all that, sure we had american graffitti and all that kind a stuff but it was never as glamourous.

Some of the older fellas might shed some light on this.

Could be that hy po cars are too cheap and people are too bored due to being told what they can and cant do all the time.

Could be that hy po cars are too cheap and people are too bored due to being told what they can and cant do all the time.

I believe that hypo cars were always out there, and i believe this was always the case, there will always be ppl that wanna burnouts/drifts/watever.. its human nature..

However in terms of ACA and TT it seems that hy po cars are the flavour of the month, the sad thing is i believe the general public is largely uneducated and will continue watching these stories and believe everything they hear.

I mean looking at their stories what has hair removal products and other household cleaning products really have to do with news..

Its the same reason why tabloids and womans weekly is so popular. The public in general has a extremely malliable mind and we are becoming more and more like American example. Believing what we see and instead of making educated decisions follow like sheep and creating a society of Fear to sell products or have the select few enforce their views.. (hrm sounds similar to a dictatorship doesn't it)

Maybe some of these people should start watching SBS news and really realise there's a world out there and there's more to life than "is your toothbrush really going to give u cancer", but of course they wanna find out why all these crazy hooligans must own modified import cars, and that its impossible for professionals and other enthusiasts to have the same interest..

I think the problem is that people ar NOT paying attention to TV as much as they did in days gone by. Therefore they only see what is in front of them and what directly affects them. So some guy telling you that salinity is a problem aust wide or that we are running out of water is now seen as standard run of the mill sensationalism and nobody pays attention till they cant get food or water all of a sudden.

Sure the older generations still watch that crap and so too the uneducated types but id like to think that we are steering away from the bad old days. I heard a speaker the other day talking about the X Generation and he mentioned that we were very wary of "phonies" i believe that is true. Most people know if someone is trying to make them swallow something they dont want to.

Sure hypo cars have always been around but they were never this fast, reliable and cheap.

Here is some of their upcoming story titles:

"MODIFIED CAR OWNERS CAUSE CANCER"

"BOXING DAY TSUNAMI CAUSED BY HOONS"

"HOONS ASSASSINATED J.F.K"

They really piss me off, in a way it should be boycotted but you can't really because this whole effect will rub off on us. Numbnuts Ray Martin didn't help at the end either, shaking his head "makes you think dosen't it".

They will continue to mislead the public until they actually decide to go on a meet with someone to see what it's really like.

Every burnout is doing damage to the environment and causes the death of thousands of dolphins annually.

The only way to stop them is take the cars off them.

But if you drink drive, expect to keep your car cos it aint that bad really now is it, at least you didnt do a burnout. Poor dolphins.

Man I am tired :D

Damn, your right!!!!!!!!!

I didn't even realise that properly, people caught drink driving get ***k all, a few hours lock up & then that's it, back to their car & they are off home (possibly still pissed), so they are without their car for a few hours.

Somebody accidentally loses traction going around the corner, and all of a sudden your car is confiscated & you are a menace to society that must be made an example of.

Fricken double standards.

you forgot

"HOONS SUPPLIED DRUGS TO THE BALI 9"

adrian:p

but hoons DO supply drugs to the bali 9, dont u adrian? :D

i know, write to ACA / today tonight representing some non-hoon person.... if you say you are a car enthusiast / rep from car club they wont listen to you, so say you're a cop or something, telling a story how most car enthusiasts arent that bad... see what happens :P

adrian i want the drugs by monday

i know nuthing i tells ya

but i agree with boostzor(shaun), people don't pay attention to tv anymore, and i for one will vouch for that as the only tv i watch is LOST , so they make bullshit stories to 1) influence the ones who do watch 2) attract people to watch again coz they really want too see how bad these hoons are

adrian :D

lol @ hoonocaust.

Steve- "Strange isnt it, you can get done for DUI, or in excess of 0.05, and what happens? but if you dare do a burnout, TAKE THE CAR."

Too right! The more you look into laws and compare the sentences, the more you will realise how wrong they have prioritised.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
