I've just brought an R33 GTS-T Series 2, very stock, however only the front left speaker works. I've tried adjusting balance & fader controls, but they fade out the front left speaker, not fade in any of the 3 other speakers!

I've got a suspicion it may be something to do with the built in amplifier, behind the back seat. Does anyone know much about how this works? Had a quick look at fuses under the dash and next to the battery in boot, all fuses look good.

Any Ideas?

How good does the stock system sound in an R33? If it sounds half reasonable, i'll wait for 6 months before upgrading to a nice deck+amp+speakers, etc

Just get some cheap 6" fronts. And install them, its pretty easy.

When I got mine all my speakers were fux0red.. I replaced the front ones and only run the front ones, as the rears ones are still fux0red. I also just put in my JVC mp3 HU, which was easy!

No money for a sub and stuff to do it.

U lucky, NONE of my speakers worked when I got mine hehehe

I replaced mine with 6.5 JBLs 'coz the screw patterns fit with the stockies an they handle the low end a lot better than I thought they would.

No sub (dead weight IMO), and the factory amp works just fine.

System wise, If ya wanna spend the dosh on a spankin' sound install go for it. Just make sure it's done professionally coz I've seen some nasty DIY jobs in a couple of 33's.

The inbuilt amp is meant to be next to the battery in the boot, mounted under the parcel shelf.

I get the impression stock speakers are pretty cruddy, so i'll be installing 6" splits in front, and 6" speakers in the rear. Alpine have been recommended to me.

What is the concensis on the stock Japanese CD+Tape deck?

Does it sound ok with all 4 speakers working, or would it be worthwile spending $500 to replace?

The Radio worked fine before I replaced it. It had a sony CD player head but you could only load cd's from the 10 stacker, the sound was terrible but it's probably just how my one was

I installed a new deck and also put a cd holder to fill the hole that the crappy old CD deck left

R32 has an amp and R33 has one as well IF you had the television/nav option. other wise the unit under the rear shelf is the HICAS UNIT! most of the 33's I have done don't have one.

speakers are usually stuffed in these cars anyway unless the owner has done the audio before it left japan.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts
    • Bunnings would have just handed you your money back on that one!
    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
