hey guys i am about to import a GTR that was aproved under the 15 year law i am worried it will come over with a f**ked Motor and i won't have the money for a rebuild and i'll b screwed its a big Risk

How many of u guys Imported GTR from JAPAN 1989 or 1990

what was broken or has Broken on them

How much has it cost u

Why don't you get one for sale on here.. there are plenty of great ones.. even better you can look at the car before you buy it.. and get it checked out..

Unless you have the cash and don't mind the time.. I wouldn't import..

who purchased the car for you? did they do an inspection?

i have a mate that shipped about 25 R32GTRs over about 18months back under 15year old rule and i think about 10 of them either blew turbos or enignes within 1 month or so.

You get what you pay for.

I imported one for over $30k, but its got the fruit.

but like the others say, importing a gtr from japan 'CHEAP' just about never happens :)

if you have 18 for the car plus 5 for 'fixing it' then you have 23K. find a local car that a young bloke like you bought, then realised he couldn't keep, as he is now in major debt he will be desperate to sell the car. offer him say 22K, and you have your GTR...until you realise you can't afford it either.

I am importing one for about 18k landed most over hear r at least 22k and don't look as nice as the one i am getting

How would you sure doesn't look as nice? anything in auction photos looks nice. not to put you off, but I've seen a 15yo import in flesh, it looked very very good in the auction picture, once in here, all sort of things are wrong... panel blemishes, dents, toneau cover on the convertible roof perishes and torned, even the headlights are not automotive headlights and need to be changed! someone in japan must be putting some backyard spotlight as a light there... it's real f*rked. I felt sorry for the owner, had a few trouble in compliance shop as weel to get it complianced....

just saying there are many than need a fair bit of fixing up, and they are high maintanance.

I agree with alot of the above statements. Don't bother with importing one from Japan if you only have $23K. There are at least 20 R32 GTR's in the classifieds every week. You can inspect and drive them personally, as well as get a professional written report on the car's condition (NRMA etc). Why take the risk when you can play it on the safe side and get one of the many that are available here already? Eliminate the risks involved importing it to Aus that have been absorbed by someone else importing it here and take on the limited risk of buying one local.

I bought mine 20K landed and I could'nt have asked for better cond, I am still very happy.

I have spent a lot of money but mostly all by choice ie $5000 on new Turbos & $1200 on Front and Dump pipes.

2 x Water pumps died on it however putting the fan thru the Radiator on both occassions, but this now seems to be rectified (Fan imbalance).

Other than that I ain't spent nothing on mine and am using it as daily transport atm......doin around 15L / 100kms (much more when I get up it!)

There is a lot of Shite out there, but dont be to put off there are some good ones as well :unsure:

Best advice ever.

There are a lot of guys that cannot afford their GTRs. The best way would be to look for a car that has been ADR'd, registered, and serviced (btw it's service not servers).

Ignore the reading on the odometer. Unless it has service books the reading is worthless. Low k's is a state of mind. Check the driver's bolster, gear knob, pedals, etc.

Charlie's advice is great too - have the NRMA inspect the car.

    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.  
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack. 
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
