Morning everyone,

I'm currently looking into where I am going to get my car serviced and was interested in knowing if anyone has had theirs done at UAS.

This will be my first major service on the car, and as much as I could do it myself, I would like someone to check it out in case there are any things i'm not aware of.

I'm looking at a standard service + extras for oil and so forth which comes to about $380 for a service which includes flushing engine oil and coolant I believe + I want to get the gearbox oil changed as I doubt it's been done for a while..

I also realise UAS is a member on this forum, i'm happy for feedback from yourself as to how long a general service takes..

Was also after what people though after it was done and whether it is worth paying that much or going to a smaller mechanic more local to myself..

Cheers,

i've got nothing bad to say about John and UAS. good guys there and they certainly see their fair share of skylines which means they know what to look at.

If you are just after a service you could try polmar motors. and see my mate Eli or Pete. tell them the beer baron sent you. both top blokes and pete has been a close mate of mine since high school and is now a great mechanic.

Can't really comment on UAS as I've never really used them before (other than to buy oil/filters etc), but what I will say is that by using a performance workshop (whether it be UAS or someone else) to do general service work, you're probably going to end up unnecessarily paying a fair bit of additional cash to get the work done.

Any good mechanic should be able to easily do the service work you mentioned for a fair bit less. Provided you've got a good local mechanic, I'd get them to do your service work for you and leave any performance orientated work to specialists like UAS as then it becomes more worthwhile to pay a bit extra for their expertise.

Thanks guys - some great advice - Beer Baron, I called up Polmar when I first got the car and was going to get a service but put it off, i'll probably give Eli a buzz when I am going to do it as he's about 10mins away from me while UAS is about 1hr..

And I agree ECR033 on the point being that my car is pretty much stock except for Cat back and any decent mechanic should be able to look after it..

I'll hold off on UAS till I start modifying it.. that's when I feel it's probably worth getting someone who works on them a fair bit to check it out..

Cheers Guys..

btw - has anyone had their car serviced at UAS?

Eli + Pete will look after you. they both know their sh1t.

i've never had my car serviced by anyone but me (actually that's not true, Nathan at Grey imports did an oil change for me whilst complying the GTR, and he serviced the soarer once too). but both Polmar and UAS have done bits and pieces on my car and they were both very good.

I did a pretty big service on my GTR when I first got it at UAS and they do good work. He recommended all the good oils and parts and obviously the guys in the workshop have taken tools to many a Skyline in their time.

They are priced at the higher end of the list of workshops though. There are other workshops you can go where they are still knowledgable about turbo skylines but at the same time perhaps a bit cheaper for your general service needs.

Then again you can do a lot of the servicing work yourself as well if you have some basic tools and know what to buy.

I've had couple of services done at UAS and I would say most of the time jobs are done professionally and reliably. If you have your import serviced for the first time, UAS would defenitely be a good place for peace of mind. I'm however currently on a budget so can't really afford to have my car serviced there any more (not that what they charge is that bad). I now take my car to Nathan @ Grey Import as alot other fellow SAUers recommended and couldn't be happier with Nathan's experiences and those extra personal touch (in merchanical works ofcourse  )

If UAS was closer to us,,,we would use them more. John's always been honest with us in every dealing we have had with them. It horses for courses,,,,if you want to own a high-performance car you have to be prepared to pay more. Thats just a fact of life. Then again what the hell would I know,,,I left Nissan to work for BMW and I got my frontal labotamy done by my plumber.

Neil.

Oh the other great thing about UAS is they give 10% off to SAU club members :) So don't forget to show your card :D

good point, but just to clarify, the 10% is on parts, not labour. :D (just so john doesn't get people complaining he's not honoring the discount)

it's also yet another reason to become a SAU NSW member. :)

The main reason I probably won't end up going to UAS is the fact that it's in castle hill and i'm near north sydney.. working doesn't give me much time.. I realise he supports the site - that's the main reason I put this post up so I could get some feeback on what they are like..

Maybe if my car was more tuned i'd head over there.. just a bit out of the way..

Beer baron - did Eli mind you bringing your own oil's + filters.. was planning on getting it all myself for the engine, gearbox and a couple of other things and just taking them in..

I'm sure Eli wont have any problem with that. he is a pretty easy going guy. in fact it's good you know what you want, and if you ring him he could probably get it for you and have it delivered to the shop to save you running around.

Hey Links I'm in the same boat you are - only I live in Castle Hill! I was thinking about getting a major service done on my car anyway since I bought it recently but it's just past 105,000km..I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what the service interval is for these cars??

It's been a pretty informative thread - depending on how I go, I might end up seeing Nathan too

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
