Hey Guys,

I only bought my first Skyline two weeks ago and I quickly got myself a Blitz SS BOV and even went to extreme of recruiting a helping hand on this forum to let him install it whilst I supervised and made stupid sounds like aaahhh, oohhhh, so thats how you do it.

Like all juvenile turbo owners I loved the sound of a ATMO BOV but after driving the car for a week I have decided that

ATMO BOV's ARE GAY

This thing has totally turned me off BOV's (ATMO) This freaking Blitz is so freakin loud (even at standard low boost) and at the moment I'm embarrassed to drive the car. Here are my reason why they're silly.

A sneeze that can be heard for KM's in peak hour traffic is gay. I'm surprised the boys in blue haven't pulled me up yet

Fuel economy. Where the f**k is my fuel going? I can only get about 380-400 KM's to the tank now

Less punch off the line

Car just feels unstable all the time!! Acceleration path has turned to shit, Idle is now so crap I think I've got a 13B freakin rotor in my mean wannabe godzilla machine.

Guys if your reading this and saving up for a BOV for your stockish Skyline. then don't. they are gay. This is not me following trends of other Skyline enthusiast...this is me speaking from actual experience. I still love the sound of the BOV but it doesn't even come near the downsides to them.

I do understand that atmo BOV's are useful in high powered applications but definitely not someone like me who thinks that 0-100 in 6.5 secs in enough for now.

oh BTW...I've got a Blitz SS BOV for sale. Comes with pipe to fit straight into a R33 S1 GTS-T. PM me with offers.

rofl.. welcome to the club.. always notice why so many BOV's up forsale on the forums?

I tried a Blitz for a few weeks... Sounded ok at first and then it was just overdone and 'boy this is stupid - its embarrasing to have this thing on here' .

People give it a try, novelty wears off and then its just an extra defect for you most of the time.

i'll give ya $5 for the bov :)

or maybe I can swap it for some under-car neons? or may be 4 bottles of octane booster? By my calculations if I add all four bottles I can get an extra 20KW. Shaweet!!!

Yeah I got a GFB Mach 1 when I first got my car. Was cool for a couple of weeks because it was my first turbo car but then I got sick of it and sold it.

Then about a year later I thought yeah I wouldnt mind one again so I got a Greddy Type S. Again, fun for about a week before I got sick of explaining to passengers what the stupid sound was eminating from the engine bay :)

One of the more amusnig threads i've read.. as for the idling - get a atmo/plumbed back one to combat this.. not that I would bother..

and not sure if it will help your fuel issues.. welcome to the club of shit milege..

was just reading SII r33 is meant to be 9.8L/100km.. - MY ASS!!! mines about 15L/100km.. and that's stock except for exhaust..

How would this be different from the stocker? If any.

LOL

I put a prof sheepdog on mine. If set correctly it's really not that bad - your's might just be set too loosely. Mine blows off anything over .5 or .6 bar.. anything under doesn't. It seems to be a nice compromise, it doesn't blow off unless you're really on boost changing gears (i.e. fanging).

i don't think this 'male atmo bovs like other male atmo bovs' thread belongs in forced induction performance. wasteland perhaps?

I created this thread in a serious note (whilst fuelled by rage beneath eons of oppression) so uneducated moots like myself would not make the same mistake I did. Please don't turn this into a BOV war guys

it can stay for the time being...

although you've realised what myself (and many many others) have said for ages.

Keep the plumbed one, or upgrade to GTR items if you need it

Without having looked into it, could someone explain why gtr std items are better than gtst std bov's....

And yes i did have a HKS ssqv, and took it off....car is extremely loud with the venting (with the 3Lt more than before) , without adding extra notes and tunes to it :)

I got a turbo smart plumb back

could not tell the difference but at high speeds it is crap

over 130kms it makes the car shudder a little when you back off

only got mine to go with the front mount,

Arnt they just a support mod ( does not make car go faster just helps if car is heaverly moded up)

I get arond 9.8l/100km in fairly modified R33SII there are lots of reasons but a good tuner and the O2 sensor are the main ones that got me there (check my blog).

The factory BOV works well and is all you really need.

than the stock BOV you mean :)

Sometimes i think (from what people have said here) gts-t one gets a bit lazy when your moving some boost after a while.

Rather than replace it, just put the better ones on there to begin with.

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
