well something has to be done cos obviously it is a huge restriction on air for a front mount with all that shit there....

c'mon boys bite the bullet, you want air don't you get your dremel and cut it out, i went thru the same issues with my s1 dayz, you'll soon get use to it and theres plenty of trimming options out there to finish it off to look std. if you didn't want to cut your backing plate out you should have looked at s/mount options :)

My suggestion for cutting the front bar would to be find a plastic specialist that does plastic welding/ repairs and get them to cut it out and patch up the holes top and bottom. There is a place here in Hervey Bay, Qld that speciallizes in plastic work concerning customising bodykits and any plastic work you can think of. See if you can find anywhere that does it in your area. Or drive to Hervey Bay. :/

finally fitted my monster fmic of ebay today and im quite happy with the fitment. everything droped in nicely but i did cut the hole under the baterry and i did have to relocate my washer bottle. apart from that the install went quite well. there is a little bit of lag but its minimal and there is virtually no whistle.. i would recommend these coolers to anyone as they are cheap and reasonable quality. got mine for under 350 delivered to my door.will post a pic or 2 tomorow

well here are the pics of my install.. probably took 6 hours from start to finish. i did swing the washer bottle to the side and i did cut a hole under the battery but i didnt need to touch the front bar reo.. i also chose to put the neo cover back on after a trim.. i managed to guess the first cut almost perfectly as what u see is 1 cut and bolted on.. good way to end the install

they came with the kit.. i was still paranoid they were going to pop off on the first drive as im boosting around 11psi.

i was also toying with the idea of making a stagea specific stencil to spray on the fmic.. nothing to fancy just stagea with unicorn heads..

if anyones bored and wants to design something.. post it up here :P

I just bought an aftermarket xr6 intercooler for $150

What would be the best way to go about the piping

should i buy a piping kit and get it cut up to fit

or get my mechanic to bend a custom piping set?

Alex,

I guess it would bolt on for a S2.. I've just brought one for my car and will be putting it in very soon. when I do it i'll take some photos. I brought the R34 kit i'm guessing it should fit (just now Just Jap have a Stagea one aswell)

Steve did you have to trim the reo bar to make it fit or was it a straight up bolt on job

BUMP BUMP BUMP! pics please, im looking at changing my cooler and filling the whole thanks :(

I fitted a C34 Just Jap cooler to my S2 RSFV on the weekend. No major hassles, everything seemed to fit well and im happy with how it fitted :)

I used the supplied brackets for the bottom of the cooler and just bolted the top to the reo bar, spun the water bottle around towards the front and trimmed the engine cover to suit.

Nice job man! From the pics I'm guessing you bought the Cooling Pro Type 1 or Type 2 Kit? Was there a noticable power increase after fitment?

  • I'm keen to get the 'Stealth' Series to fit to my Series 2 with 'Dayz' front bar. I know other people have asked, but no-one has yet responded....Has anyone had any experience fitting a 'Stealth'? Are they really a direct fit to the factory piping with no cutting or fabrication as stated in the ad? (I'm not the most handy bloke in the world unfortunately :) ).
  • I've noticed that the Stealth is a bit smaller than the Type 1 or 2 kits. Would this difference in dimensions reduce performance substantially? I'm guessing a tune is required after fitment also. I have a factory ECU; does this have to be adjusted or anything to suit the new modifications?

Many thanks

if JJR say it is bolt on then it should be a close thing. if no one has done one then you are in the lap of the gods BUT it should be straightforward enough allowing for some minor trimming of the front bar.

the size of the FMIC will be absolutely fine. most FMIC's are larger than required for the power output which has a small cost in response for the extra size.

Thanks for the response Wolverine. I was just speaking with Dan? from Just Jap - the Stealth 'coolers require minor cutting of the REAR of the bar, so nothing visible from the outside. All connectors, clamps etc are included too and it should just connect on to the factory plumbing.

Why the Stealths are more expensive, even though they are smaller than the Type 1 or 2 coolers I have no idea? I might order one later this week and let you know how it turns out.

Tom, can you let me know how the install works out. I have a dayz edition and keen to fit and intercooler, but was concerd about the cutting of the bar. Let me know how it works out and what cooler you went for.

Cheers

Tune isnt needed after fmic if you only have stock computer (ecu) this is becuase their isnt much they can tune without a piggyback ect....

Just reset ur ecu after so it goes into self learn mode for a while (remove positive and pump brakes a few times to drain all power)

I have tidied up some trimming done on the bar on my R33 with a small wood plane (I'm not saying this is the best tool but it worked quite well and was just sitting in the garage). It had been hacked pretty roughly with some kind of saw by the original owner.

The stagea had more or less been professionally done with some linishing of the cut edges. (except for the number plate area that was cut out completely).

The IC will end up fairly close to front reinforcing bar so having a slightly small IC height-wise makes little difference anyway with regard to airflow and it will save you some time/coin cutting a new hole on the drivers side and modifying the engine cover etc. So it might cost more for the kit but will be easier to install. Swings and roundabouts.

No problem 187,

I will post some pics & info once installed. I ended up purchasing the 'Stealth' model; I should hopefully recieve it before this weekend.
