i just removed wheel .. covered hub in news paper and wheel arches and side of car and sprayed in my garage with no wind ..

make sure u tape correctly and make sure you get all the paint off if you didnt mask the disc could smell funny or cause irregular braking which you obviously dont want

I did that too, took about 2hrs total, will post up some pics. I did my hubs black and calipers red (black car with nismo wheels). Plan to just file back the NISSAN lightly - prefer natural metal colour to the white.

The paint colour is still the best i have seen of any heat proof spray in a can.

This is the before a track day in summer and after.the heat has slightly faded the colour but it is still good none the less.

I think wat he Ment was, Taking them fully off Including Disconnecting the Brake lines and draining the system

Which is what I had originally Planned to do Untill i saw this thread! great Thread btw!.

My idea is to re-Paint the white, (why not give it all a freshen up I thought.), using a Fine Paint brush.

Hey I know it's been like ages since I said I would do this, but I finally painted my Nissan logos white. I did an OK job, just used a fine paint brush and some cheapo white spray paint that I got from Super Cheap. I've had them painted for about 4 months now and they haven't chipped or faded yet. Sorry for the crappy pic (again).

They look really good!! i have read this thread and have decided on painting mine gold with the nissan logo either, chome, black or green (like my car) i have begun by preping the brakes, by sanding them back. I have my calipers off the car, as i have a skyline r33 gts with rb25det conversion so i am going to put the brakes on as soon as i can, i thought while they're off why not freshen them up?? great thread!

I just took my Brake Calipers and rotors of again as i found the vht paint scratches to easy and i f**ked my nissan logo up(trying to paint it white) Now im going to paint them gold just not sure if i should have another go at painting the nissan logo white. Also can i use some type of clear coat to give them extra strength to stop the rotors from peeling when i change the wheels.

Cheers

Dave

hey guys i tried doing mine today i have preped the calipers and i used one can of duplicolour metalcast mc202 yellow with gold finish and it is not looking great at all! i have used the whole can on the two calipers and they look funny i'll post up pics asap

hamish

heres the pics, it like the paint wasn't thick enough or something, think i should get another car n go over the top? i did not use a primer but i was told by the guy at autobarn not to as the paint did not need a primer...

it appears that the colour u choose doesnt cover easy, get a can of the ground coat for it cover it with that, then apply the other paint and it should come up nice

I just wrote a post in anodisation of calipers but Ill run it past your guys..

Screw white because it looks shocking.. If you do decide to do it .. get a nail painting brush and apply it.

If not when you paint your calipers either file it back when dry.. if you already have them painted then this is best.

Or when semi wet (i.e 2 mins after painting) use your thumb wrapped in masking tape to stick onto the nissan sign and pull off at speed.. Watch it come off.. If its not comming off wait for it to dry some more..

Just spray over it with clear as its easier to clean once you do that, hope that helps everyone here

H@ME.. Try spraying it again when the calipers are cold and not hot.. Either that or dont spray them on a humid or wet day .. Try shaking the can for longer and soaking it in boiling water (dry the can totally as ive dropped water onto the paint once and I had to strip it back - damn perfection crap)

Can in the water will make the paint mixture thinner and easier to apply for one.. For your first coat go light, increase in second and heavy in 3rd.. This will allow a shinny base .. then smash it with clear.. All heat proof..

H@ME if you want gold look up the anodisation section for brake caliper .. It will look alot like brembos on 34s.. Paint will look shithouse

thanks for the advice guys, i have read a few thread on here regarding painting brake calipers anodizing etc, the paint looks a bit better today it has now a nice shine finish to it. So should i go over the paint on it now in the dulicolour Mc100 ground coat then hit it again with MC 200, or should i just try a few more coats of th mc200? regards hame. here is a recent picture.

    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
    • Correct. Um. I dunno. I haven't cared enough about the way that the NA cars work to know for sure. But..... The 33/34 turbo manual cars have an electronic speed sensor in the gearbox that outputs a +/- (ie, sawtooth AC) voltage signal. That is connected to the speedo. The speedo then outputs a 0-5v square wave (ie, PWM) signal that the ECU (and any other CU on the bus) sees. The speed sensor is NOT directly connected to the ECU. So here's the problem. Your new ECU expects to see the PWM signal, but must somehow be getting a direct signal from the diff speed sensor. Which would suggest that the wiring of the NA car is not the same as the turbo cars. I think you will need to spend some time with (hopefully the wiring diagram for the car) and a multimeter to see what is connected to what. Then, presuming I am correct**, you would then want to separate the ECU speed signal input from the rest of the car's wiring, and probably either buy a speed signal converter, or build one using an arduino (or similar). That would take in the speed sensor signal and output a scaled (and suitably rearranged) signal for the ECU. ** We shouldn't presume that I am correct here, because there might be something else crazy going on. I don't think you could convert the speedo to be fed from the gearbox sensor, because the pulse rate from that sensor is probably different to the diff sensor and then the speedo would read wrongly. And this also wouldn't fix the ECU's problem either, because the ECU doesn't want to see the gearbox signal direct either (assuming that they are all on the same wiring, for some odd NA related reason, see above caveat!) Does this help? Probably not. Can you make it work? Almost certainly. With the above work. You should buy a handheld oscilloscope from Aliexpress so that you can view these signals directly. Connect up the probes and drive the car. Show photos of the screen when drving at known speeds and connected to different places, and we'll see what we can learn about it.
