Track day: Yeah. Bill said they had the grey '34 out and about last weekend with John Bowe. He told me they are organising one for customers but needed to sort the PI insurance... will ask tomorrow.

BTW: The car is being kept there (at GTA) until I get back... so go have a squiz :)

gorgeous car, Jamezilla :)

purple would be my choice on an R33 GTR too :uh-huh:

I looove that colour!

hehe for some reason i always thought that Lada thing under your name was a joke....I guess not! :)

OMG!! thats awesome!! im not a fan of the R33... but the REAL DEAL GTRs i do :)

looks veeeeeeeeeery shmick! cant wait to see it on a cruise or something... will have my Compact Flash cards ready to fill up :)

very nice buy james!

yeah im with ula i have room here if u need to store it! :) hehe

Very much looking forward to be out cruising with the Melbourne people.

Back in Aus in mid/late Feb - anyone want anything from US?

And as I said - the guys at Gran Turismo in Melb are keeping the car in the showroom for me - go have a look, it is much better in the metal.

Shell:

Lada - hahaha. My friends WISH it was a joke. :)

Will take a nice 'family' photo when I get back.

For now though....

Predator:

Hahaha - the Lada only drives one way... slowly.

There will be much care taken with the new baby. The Lada will be kept for super-sunny days and crawling over rocks and through mud-pits :)

Need to find a good trimmer though - some junkie f@#k slashed my roof to relieve me of my ashtray (go figure) so it's permanently topless at the moment. The Nissan will take pride of place in the garage... so the mighty Niva will need to be protected from the elements once more.

Can't wait to be out cruising in the GTR though... so stupid that I only get it for an afternoon before going away :)

Any thoughts on plates? It has 'GTR-88' at the moment (last owner was Chinese and 8 is lucky) but I want something different...

Yeah - I thought about that.

Maybe JZILLA - but it looks like I have the word 'jizz' somewhere in there... and that's not quite the path I wish to tread :) Anyway, I could always get JIZMO :)

I was thinking IKUZO which means 'let's go, NOW' in Japanese, or GOLGO like the manga assassin. I wanted GOJIRA but it's gone. Same with AKIRA.

TOKYO3 is a maybe, as is AKUMA (the devil) ASHURA (fighting demon) and GFORCE... but I'm just not sure.

Thanks for thoughts though :)

Ummm... I'm really not sure how to break this to you mate................

Ummmmm.....

........................... that's not a 1997 Series 3.

It has Xenon headlights, but it doesn't have the Series 3 front lip, or red seat inserts. It's either a 1995 or 1996 with Xenon headlights. Does it have a passenger airbag, rough, raised console trim and series 2 steering wheel? If so, then it's most probably a 1996... If not, it's a 1995...

I sure hope you didn't pay Series 3 prices for it :)

Merli:

Yeah I knida had suspisions about that.

I'd say it's a full-house 'run-out' series 2 - as the build date is listed as 1997.

I was happy with the price (especially with all the extras).

So... it may be a pretend series 3, but I'll love it all the same :)

Thanks for the heads up.

No worries mate...

If you had suspicions, you should have asked us!!! We'd have told you and it could have been another bargaining tool for you to get the price even lower! :(

Anyway... It looks great, and the only differences between Series 2 and Series 3 are the headlights (which are already there), the front lip (about $900 from Nissan) and the red seat inserts (who cares?)... So there really isn't much to it ;)

If it's got a build date of 1997, it must be the very very VERY last of the Series 2s :)

Can I ask whether or not you checked whether the engine number matched with the compliance plate/tag on the firewall? (can't remember where it's been stamped) And whether you checked the paint code matched the car? Another thing to watch out for is that the BLUE NISSAN Build Plate should have the text PRINTED on... NOT ENGRAVED... If it is engraved, it's fake... Japanese theives have gotten their hands on these plates and are engraving their own which they whack on stolen cars...

I've looked at too many import cars than I'd care to remember that have had the "dodgy-habib" wand waved over them, and I'd hate to see a fellow enthusiast get burnt... It always pays to keep your emotions in check and be objective about things, especially when a STUNNING PURPLE R33 GTR is staring you in the face :)

p.s. The car looks awesome :)

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
