After a marathon (or so it seemed) 4 full weeks away in Bangkok and on the islands in the Gulf of Thailand I have survived catching nothing communicable or tummy related.

Awesome SCUBA diving around Koh Tao north of Koh Samui but next time I might just stay on Tao for a week. A daily 2 hour ride each way on the ferry in seas up to 12 feet was a bit much and dampened the enthusiasm a bit. Once on Koh Tao I thought a movie or swimsuit calendar was being shot....Damn!!! I was diving there as the waters elsewhere where too murky for good diving. Great crews of dive leaders in the area as well and all real friendly.

Heartbroken to leave as the weather was getting really great but the tan is acceptable and i have been missing the GTR (which has a flat battery now so waiting on the charge). Ending each day of diving with a great massage (no really just a massage) with a lovely young local lady and several longnecks of Heinekin with a few mates and our better halves can't be beat.

Fishing, eating the local tucker of mostly seafood and chillis and dodging some of the local ladies who assured me that they loved me was just part of the fun. Even when raining we still had a good time in the pool and bars. I spent a little time with Tigers at Wat Po Temple and toured Hellfire pass and its museum before a train ride on the Death railway (one life for each sleeper laid) to Kanchaniburi. That was the mainland done so 3 weeks on the Islands followed.

Really looking forward to catching up with a few of you Tuesday so be there and I may even get a few pics and short vids together on the laptop.

Sawadee krab. Now how's that damn battery????

Yeah Scuba isn't for everyone, but I love it and after recovery diving in quarries and such the ocean is just magnificent.

No spear fishing as there were too many divers around with good clear water in short supply with the rains. Everyone went to Koh Tao but as conditions improve it thins out a bit.

More than happy to tell of the good sights as well.

Definitely worth a visit, if even for a Thai oil massage. I'm half convinced to move there for a few years.

Just a few low res shots there to get the juices flowing for Big boy :)

The ocean ones are Koh Tao from the bar on the beach and the little island just off Koh Tao where we dived. Two little islands linked by the whitest sand you ever saw and sometimes the tide goes a bit over it. Just spectacular.

I heard a quote over there about moon parties on Koh Phangan (between Samui and Tao and the traditional place for the parties)....full moon party, quarter moon party, half moon party, no moon party. Any moon, Party!!!

Not too many remember what happens at the parties which is probably a shame.

Thailand rocks! Been there 4 out of the last 5 years.

Great place to do relax and do SFA.

Done Chang Mai, Chang Rai, Hua Hin, Phuket, Bankok (waste of time), Phi Phi Island and a few others. Chang Mai rocks hard coz not many people go there.

Phuket is also cool if you don't stay in Patong. Up north is the place to be.

Did you do the SeaCanoe Geoff? That's heaps of fun.

SCUBA and golf both rock in Thailand. Don't leave the trip without doing as much of both as humanly possible.

    • The powder coating came in at $250 EACH. The TRX rims got a coat of clearcoat on the outside only.
    • Bit wet, but YUMMY
    • Keeping in mind that I am currently getting flat 10 L/100km on my RB25DET, which means >>500km/tank. I would test this car for vacuum leaks, check codes and AFM signal with NissDataScan as D says, check plugs, do a compression check while they are out.
    • It is hard to be specific half way across the world...but it *seems* like it might have a minor issue. Is the idle stable and does it rev smoothly? I would not expect any pops out of what I am assuming is a standard ECU, standard tune, standard exhaust. You can use Nissan Data Scan to find out exactly what is happening when it runs, the cable/software is reasonably affordable if you are not planning on changing the ECU (which hopefully you are not with an NA skyline) BTW your mileage may not be that far off, these are heavy old tech cars, and being NA might mean you use a heavy foot to keep up with traffic....
    • Hey guys! Y'all are the masters so figured I'd check in on a few items here. - My engine sounds ever-so-slightly more raspy than the other NA RB25s I've listened to. It's barely noticeable but definitely a slightly different sound. - When I back off the throttle at high RPM, I will sometimes get a pop out of the exhaust, assuming this can be diagnosed as misfire. Some history on the car: - Had an exhaust leak in auction sheet but was claimed to be fixed by seller (bought from USA importer).  - Car's coil packs and sparks were replaced when it was sold to me, but unsure on what the gap is and whether the coil packs are correct.  - A prior mechanic had misdiagnosed a pilot or throwout bearing sound as LSPI/detonation. Had played with timing a bit, pops/raspy sound of engine just got worse. Got timing reset. - Had failed emissions a few times. First time went in as is, failed. Second time, replaced cat, still failed, running rich as hell. Third time replaced o2 sensor, passed. Car still smells gassy though. - Timing belt and valve cover gasket also replaced.  - Gas mileage is... low. about 350-400K per tank.  Any idea if I'm having any serious issues here or does this all sound like normal old NA RB stuff and I'm fine to drive it with the pops/slightly raspy engine? If it'll help, I can get drop a video of the sound of the engine.
