I am leaning toward the new turbos... Quick question, is the Apexi Power FC boost controller sufficient? Wondering whether to order one too.
-
Definitely, if new dumps are being fitted to my car, it is because the turbos have been changed. Power FC is ordered.
-
I'll order the Power FC, and get the exhaust done. I am going overseas soon anyway, so I'll have time to decide on whether or not I go with turbos... if I do I'll get the dumps and down pipes done at the same time.
-
OK cool thanks for that. I have learnt heaps today Cheers fellas.
-
I built my assumption up on teh fact my car was accepted for inspection, along with previous experience. Interesting the RTA says that... perhaps I was lucky. But my car is fully stock so no big deal.
-
Another quick question sorry, there is a Power FC for sale second hand in the trader with some other bits... but no hand controller. Are all hand controller the same? For instance I would be using one from an FD RX7 to tune my car.
-
Awesome advice everyone and very much appreciated. It is all coming together in my mind now. I am not strapped for cash, but don't have huge expectations for power. Hence I was after a minimal set up. I'll do it all if I plan to go the new turbo route, now it's just deciding if I want to fork out $4k or play Russian Roulette with the stockies...
-
Thanks for the reply. I'll have to do that then.
-
Thanks heaps for the info sewid. I should have said, my car already has a clutch and I am definitely doing Power FC as well as exhaust. It is the turbos I am not sure of doing yet. But for reliability I feel I should... just working out a plan of attack. Do I 'need' the dumps and down pipe? Or is it just preferable? Same for the fuel system upgrade? ETA: I am not chasing huge power, I would love anything over 280kW but it is the reliability factor that I want most. Hence my choice of smallish turbos. When it comes to price, the 2860s are hard to beat and people have said awesome stuff about them...

As above. I am having trouble finding the above paint code. My covers are gold and I am having them painted, since I have the R34 GTR engine emblem and air box, may as well do it all to match. Cheers Matt

First issue, minor one. I planned to do exhaust first. Which will consist of 570cfm cat converter and then 3inch from there back. Is this OK to be driving around with this untuned? I have come from rotaries which are very sensitive to this sort of change... but they are MAP sensored. I guess I am somewhat paranoid. Do I need to reset the factory ECU? How do I do that...? I am doing exhaust and tune. Boost restrictor is already gone. Considering horrific stories of catastrophic failures when it comes to stock ceramic turbine wheels, I would like to check before I do exhaust and tune the condition of the stockies. Is this possible? Or... I am considering an upgrade to N1s, 2860-7s or GTSSs. Price pending... My car is stock. What do I need to do in order to upgrade? I know it has been covered, but am after specifics when it comes to boost control, fuel pressure regulation, cam gears etc. as I plan to fit everything myself and finally have it street tuned. Are cam gears necessary etc? Stock boost control OK? Fuel system up to it? Cheers Matt

Air Box R33 Gtr And R34 Gtr - Are They The Same?
GT-R32 replied to WRRR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have been told you can use the R34 snorkel on the R33, but not the other way around. So as far as being interchangerable, it seems you can't retro fit. -
I didn't need to go to Dickson. Basically, if it has a compliance plate and isn't modified or engineered take it to an inspection station.
-
Haha someone is bitter I didn't drive my car to Sydney so they could look at it - ask anyone how reasonable a request that realistically is. Typically it is be the buyers responsibility to organise transportation, compensate for it or pickup. I would have no problems with that. However I have organised R34 bits. Thanks everyone.

Gold!!

I would have preferred a straight six. People have complained about the six leaving the M3s, but that car has always been about a fast 3 series, they strarted with a 4cylinder and have moved to a V8 of near twice the capacity. The 'Skyline' has had a straight six for 50-odd years. The 'Skyline GTR' for a very long time. But this is only a 'GTR'. They are revolutionising the concept so I am happy regardless, but do prefer a straight six for sound and nostaglia reasons if I was to be picky. However there are undeniable advantages of the V6, involving packaging and mostly, cost. Bring it on. The RB dies a f**king legend.

I am excited. Only thing that is wrong is the GTR has always has an association with the 'ring. Nurburgring in under 8 mins? The R33 did Nurburgring in 7.59 (fastest production car of its time around there). Nissan are apparently aiming for 7.28, which is f**k off fast, so I reckon realistically they are aiming for 7.40 (Porsche 911 Turbo time if I remember correctly).
-
Sounds advice djr. Certainly comes from someone who has owned a lot of cars in the past. I myself have had over 30 cars and am currently 23. However I plan to keep my GTR for at least a while There are some things you can write off as minor, and some not. You need to not get hung up on details effectively. Not get emotional, impatient etc etc.

The market is awesome for buyers at the moment. I am so happy I kept my car. I have not had to do any maintenance/repairs at all (aside from oil changes), compression is spot on, has a known history and fu(k all kms. And I was willing to part with it for near $30k. Thank goodness I didn't, I wouldn't know what else to get for that kind of money. Look carefully, but not unreasonably, and you will get an awesome car. Both R33 and R32. But on the whole a R33 is newer, so aside from big things potentially having been rebuilt on the R32s, everything else has been subjected to less whether and possibly wear on the R32. Something to keep in mind.
-
Cheers... PM sent. Could be good with my R34 look engine bay. Anyone else? Or any ideas where I may be able to source at R33 one?
-
As above, I am after the original R33 GTR Airbox bits, particularly the snorkel for the top of it. 0412 109 046 Cheers Matt

That is still like 8% of the car, it would phase the owner in my opinion. But it's only rims, which can be changed back to standard if wanted/needed. But I seriously doubt it would have such an effect on resale on the whole to be honest.
-
FFS it is only a set of rims. If you have the money why not? You can change em back if you want. LOL @ the 'made it' comment as if you only buy a Ferrari for a penis extension not cause might actually like them. Smacks of jealousy. People I know (family members etc) who have Ferraris have certainly made it, and buy whatever the f**k they want, their penis is would already be extended because they can afford the surgery if they want that!! Ferraris, $1m boats, multi million dollar houses. Whatever. It is a different lifestyle and only people who don't understand it make comments like that. :laughing-smiley-014: ETA: Read the Ferrari forums with people modifying F40s etc. Same thinking as us modifying Skylines, they just have a bit more cash.

Can someone please... What's the paint code for R34 engines? (The red/maroon bits).
-
Off topic, what is the colour of the R34 engine bits Anyone have a paint code? R32 for sale looks nice too.
