The Import Industry
NISMO replied to Mr Eps's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
As much as i agree that customers haggling to save $10 on a $30k import causes alot of the problems, I honestly think there are RAW's out there who are just as much to blame. The good old era when imports where purely a thing for enthusiasts (workshops and customers alike) are long gone. There are RAW's that without doubt are 100% in it to make as much money as quick as possible. Thats not to say they're all like that, as most here can attest to the great service recieved by present company , but i think its naive at best to think that all the workshops are here purely cause they love imports and just want to earn a small living. And that all this is the fault of the customer. I'd bet my house that even if everyone in Aus paid $10k say for compliance that you would still have workshops who say, ok out of this $10k we currently make $5k profit, but if we don't do the cats, no fluids then we can turn that into $6k! -
Its actually very easy. After putting two through compliance, i can now do it in a few mins. sorry haven't done it in a couple of years, but off the top of my head 1. Check how grill is attached. There are 4 tabs in each corner of the chrome grill with little screws. These are actually clips so just half a turn and they should pop out. Hang on, maybe there's only two. One on each side. 2. Underneath the car, you will have to unscrew the underside dust/dirt cover which i'm pretty sure is connected to the bottom of the front bumper. There's a few screws here, i think around 6-8. make sure its the dust cover you're unscrewing as these screws are near the front lip screws. (Made that mistake once 3. There are 2 screws on each side of the front bumper near the blinkers. Easiest way is from the wheel well. Turn steering wheel to the left and do the right side, then turn to right and do the left side Move the wheel arch covers out of the way and you'll see them pretty easily. Before you unscrew these, disconnect the front blinkers. Usually just a half turn and they'll pop out. Also before you unscrew the side screws near the blinkers have someone hold the bumper or prop it up, as these 2 screws on each side are all that hold it. and that should be it. If it gets caught anywhere, don't force it. Have a look to see if I may have missed a screw.

The coupes generally are more expensive than the sedans as they're more sought after. Haven't really compared 08 coupes with 09/10 sedans so not sure if there's anything extra. I think in WA prices are a little higher as well due to there not being as many suppliers/compliance shops.
-
ahh cool. I'm trying to chase down side by side pics from the US guys, will post them up if find em
-
In what way? I've only looked at them briefely and am hoping to start looking for a V36 Sedan very soon. To me they look quite similar, and the major difference is the engine/g'box combo. Of course being the second gen, I'm pretty sure if tehre small bugs in the 350GT's they should have been ironed out in the 370GT sedans, but then there would prob be new bugs with the 3.7
-
yeah seen that as well. The price is nuts, and i mean in that the value of the car itself is way over cost. I understand they need to recoup evidence costs, but to try and do it all on one car? The 3.7 is great, but if you don't have you're heart set on that engine, i would seriously consider the 3.5 sedan. There's a lot of reviews around esp in the US, that actually prefer the 3.5 Performance wise, I'm pretty sure they're actually almost identical. There is a power gain, but also there's extra weight in the 370GT sedans

For $22k, and if you're not looking for an "original keeper" I'd def think twice. For around that money or a couple of grand more, you can get some pretty decent 32's with decent mods already done. It all depends on what you want. If its a nice car, you want to keep stock(ish) yes it might be a good buy. If you want a GTR to punish a little/mod etc etc, you can probably get a bit more for your money if you go a run of the mil 32 GTR.

WooHoo, I'm not the only freak who use water to dry their car all i do though is just remove ALL connections off the end of the hose, and just let the water stream. Its actually a good guide as to when i need to repolish the car, cause it stops "slipping" off as easy.

With the technology currently in the VQ motors, i have no idea why you would ever want to go back to something so ancient as the RB. (in comparison) Nissan's current V series motors are amongst the best in the world. Exhibit a VQ37VHR A rocker arm and two types of links open the intake-valves by transferring the rotational movement of a drive shaft with an eccentric cam to the output cam. The movement of the output cam is varied by rotating the control shaft within the DC motor and changing the fulcrums of the links. This makes a continuous adjustment of the valve lift amount possible. C-VTC and VVEL together control the valve phases and its valve events, allowing free-control of the valve timing and lift. This results in more efficient airflow to the cylinder, significantly improved responsiveness, optimizing the balance between power and environmental performance. Yes the RB is a great motor , and will always be special amongst many motoring fans, Nissan fans or not, but in my opinion the newer range of V motors win hands down. I think if emition laws weren't so strict and Nissan could freely strap a couple of, or a single turbo to the VQ's, then I'd guess that most of us would be saying RB-What?

Gotta love this •The “competition entry card” provided with the wallet grants you access to a special competition – one that combines in-game and real-world challenges, much like the GT Academy. The prize, though, is extraordinary: a real Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG super car of your very own. (More details on this competition will be announced later.) •Also like the GT Academy, United States, Canadian, and even Japanese fans are out of luck, as the Signature Edition (and the competition) will only be available to residents of the following countries: UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Yeah 14 by 6'6 is pretty much a standard size for car trailers so should be fine. One thing to be carefull of is the weight the trailer is registered for. Alot of places will put for example 3 tonne suspension but only register the trailer for 2 tonne GVM. That means that you take away the weight of thr trailer which could be 600 odd kg's depending on materials and you only have 1400kgs left for car, tyres, tools and anything else you may need. God forbid you ever have an accident, or less serious you are asked to go on a weigh bridge, you could be in some sh!t. That and the fact that other than the suspension, the rest of the components (brakes, chasis thickness etc) will be matched to 2 tonne GVM and no more I'd really be carefull about the weight.

Another Importing Newb Here!
NISMO replied to ironpaw's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Yep, buy a 34 sedan, then do this to it -
You'd hope so. Purely from a business perspective, i wonder if Nissan Japan know how Aus Nissan treat their customers. What kind of a screwed up business model says, "hey we have this huge customer base of die hard car fanatics, but we're not selling them anythng cause they didn't buy the car from us"

How Well Do You Know The R32 Gt-r. Godzilla?
NISMO replied to PR34CH's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Also some small N1 facts Windscreen washer bottle - due to no rear wiper, the design is slightly different and only houses one little pump where as the normal GTR's have 2, 1 for rear wiper, 1 for fronts No radio control buttons on the dash, instead a blank cap in their place Solid disk rotors instead of drilled Front brake air guides All the ABS wiring was left in, it was just the units and solid lines which were removed, and of course different master cylinder -

re colours, there were only 2 models to come in exclusive colours in the GTR range, that is, no choice, you want this car you get this colour NISMO edition - Gun Metal Grey N1 - Crystal White There were a couple of very limited release colours, but none that i know of which were exclusive other than the above -
V36 Skylines (thumbs Up/thumbs Down)
NISMO replied to V36 Skyline's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Overall I think the V36 is streets ahead in every aspect. Even though i had 2 V35's, just something about the front end never sat right with me. Interior - well there's no comparison. i think the V36 shows up just how basic Nissan made the V35. Nissan always seem to be like 5 yrs behind the competition when it comes to interiors. It sh!ts me to tears. The V36 has caught up a bit, but if you look at things like dials, colours etc, the V36 has what farken Hyundai had 5 yrs ago. Still though, the V35 to me, interior wise was always a huge let down. Exterior, the coupes, still prefer the V35's big fat ar$e. The front, V36. Sedans, no real contest here. As much as i loved the V35 Mechanics, feel, engine etc etc, I would probably get a daewoo before i got a V35 sedan. I absolutely love the platform, but my god did the destroy what could have been a stunning sedan, with the V35. The V36 sedan to me is up there looks wise, and maybe a bit interior wise, definitely spec wise, with anything Europe has to offer for anywhere near the price range. Hopefully if all goes well, should start looking for one soon. -
Stunning car Dean. Gotta be one of my faves. Don't rush out for the Brembo's. If its for looks, go for it. If its for stopping at the track, there's really not that much difference compared to a well set up stock Nissan calliper. Had the Brembo's on my N1 at the front (its an early N1 so came out with stock Nissan callipers) fitted by the previous owner. Got rid of them as went back to stock, and replaced with rebuilt Nissan callipers, new fluid, pads, rotors and the stopping is awesome.

Need Help Determining If This Is A Real Nismo
NISMO replied to maxster17's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Hey mate, see above. -
Love the MINES covers. Fkn Awesome. Equally though, I'm a big fan of the NISMO crinkle red.

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the advice. To summarise, its not bad, but can get better for the price? Rather than rush into it, I'm gonna go out to a few PC places in my area, and see what they recommend, have and take it from there. The Dell looked good, but now that I'm over the initial, i must have a new PC today! I'm going to take my time

Closed. When you're feeling a little more specific instead of thinking everyone can guess what you're actually asking , feel free to post up again.

Even though I'm on one day in day out, I'm a noob when it comes to PC Specs. Was looking at getting a new PC for home, and want soemthing that won't be obsolete in a year or 2. I get a bit of a deal through work if i buy Dell. So what do you think of the below? Yes, you could probably build one cheaper, but given my noobiness, I'm a bit more comfy with buying off the shelf. Dell 8100 XPS Intel® Core™ i7-860 Processor (2.80GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 8MB Cache Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit Edition Alienware OptX™ AW2210 21.5” Full HD Widescreen Monitor 6GB (2x2GB/2x1GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz Memory 1TB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive with Native Command Queuing Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write 1792MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260 Also the usual MS starter software, 7.1 audio etc etc. The above would be around $1750 delivered Its mainly used for general PC stuff, little bit of gaming. Is it overkill? If yes what should i spec down? Any similar off the shelf packages for a similar price? thanks guys

Ok, so you want a GTR for $11k, but it also must be in good condition with no paint/body imperfections? Fark me, have you mistaken the $ symbol for the Euro symbol. Seriously speaking, your posts are insulting to sellers and if you can't afford a certain car its pretty simple, you can't buy it. But just in case this works, I have $20k, thats it, for an R35 GTR so if someone has one for sale let me know. PS no imperfections.

Yep, US site with no relevance here. And as some have said, don't speed = no fines. Yes we all speed sometimes, but if you do and get caught, its no-ones fault but your own. Closed.
