it wont be the VCT - so dont even worry about that in order to get good economy 1) pump up tyres - 40 psi is good 2) replace 02 sensor - they die after around 50,000kms, $120 part 3) reset the stock ecu 4) dont vary the throttle constantly, ie changing speed/gears, a steady throttle allows the ECU to run in closed loop mode when the load is constant (not changing) the ECU will monitor the 02 sensor readigns and trim fuel it does this purely for the sake of fuel economy and nothing else, ie; its not boost related etc as soon as you vary the throttle, ramp the engine on load, bring on boost etc, it drops out of closed loop mode and if all that fails give the car with a full tank to your girlfriend or mother and let them drive it for a week i bet they get good economy of out it - ie they dont load the engine up constantly and rape it flat out

the basis for EFI and the amount of fuel the engine uses is related directly to how much load the engine is under the load index comes from the airflow meter, so the more you open the throttle, the more air comes in, the more the AFM shows load so by loading the engine up in 5th gear at a low road speed, you may actually use more fuel whereas if you were in 4th it would be less engine load to maintain that speed the engine would rev more, but the load cell difference would be bugger all, even for a few hundred RPM increase like at 2100rpm the load may be 5, at 2600 (cos your now in 4th) the load may be 6 the load indexes are just on a scale out of 20 - 20 being max load if that makes sense in order to get good economy 1) pump up tyres - 40 psi is good 2) replace 02 sensor - they die after around 50,000kms, $120 part 3) reset the stock ecu 4) dont vary the throttle constantly, ie changing speed/gears, a steady throttle allows the ECU to run in closed loop mode when the load is constant (not changing) the ECU will monitor the 02 sensor readigns and trim fuel it does this purely for the sake of fuel economy and nothing else, ie; its not boost related etc as soon as you vary the throttle, ramp the engine on load, bring on boost etc, it drops out of closed loop mode and if all that fails give the car with a full tank to your girlfriend or mother and let them drive it for a week i bet they get good economy of out it - ie they dont load the engine up constantly and rape it flat out

Help Me Please Im In A Bit Of A Pickle
paulr33 replied to LUME's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
none of the reasons you have presented make it a good reason to convert your car you should just sell yours and buy a GTST and be done with it it will take more time, cost more and end up with a 3/4 done job by converting it -

Dyno Run After Tune..little Bit Disapointed
paulr33 replied to SS#eater's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
id say its a fundamental issue you have the restriciton sounds pretty bad given you are stuffing 20psi into it on a 3076 compressor wheel i would be looking at the copy plenum you have, they are known baddies the exhaust restrisction probably isnt a big big issue, sure every bit helps, but not that much difference i wouldnt think ? cooler piping is a waste of time theres no way it would restrict it if its the same size as the compressor outlet then its fine only if it was smaller in diameter, would it be an issue -
check out any of these listed workshops most of these are well known in the sau vic community and can do common skyline stuff 4wd diag should be no problem http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Lo...ops-t13305.html http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Wo...Th-t144282.html

1) unlimited boost will cause engine failure 2) unlimited boost will cause turbocharger failure 3) unlimited boost will break other stuff 4) stop loading the engine up while its running as "unlimited boost" 5) baby the car around until you fix it properly - dont load it up 6) get a real ecu 7) stop doing ghetto mods and being stupid

How Do Boost Control Kits For Power Fc Hook Up
paulr33 replied to mattsr31's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
people dont have to answer and they might not do some research yourself or make it easier for people to understand what you are trying to achieve try drawing a diagram and posting it up - you might get a quicker response -
knowledge is power go check out justins R33 if he is still selling it

when your std coils are dead they work fine and then one day they just start to misfire city when the engine is on load/boost replacing plugs etc doesnt fix the issue as the coils are breaking down. mine died at 160,000kms and replaced with splitfires no issues after that if its happened all of a sudden and youve put in new plugs then yeah coils are toast - they die sooner or later

Car Is Boosting To 11psi (stock) No Bc
paulr33 replied to 3LGODZILA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
well it depends what are you using to increase boost over the stock level? the stock gauge reads from the back of the plenum, so unless you change anything, its usually spot on under full load the stock guage will read around 3/4 ish which is around 3.5ish around 7PSI ish remebering that the R33 GTST has dual stage boost, so it should increase past 4500rpm to around 9PSI if you have done the dual stage boost hack, it can run 9PSI all the time, even under 4500rpm the only time two boost guages read differently are 1) user error - ie one is in KPA and one is in KGcm2 etc 2) they are reading from different locations 3) there is a vacuum leak somewhere - if so, it wouldnt make much boost, car would be sluggish 4) faulty gauge -

Car Is Boosting To 11psi (stock) No Bc
paulr33 replied to 3LGODZILA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
the standard guage is in mmhg its not bar, its not psi, its not kgcm2, its not pascals look up mmhg to work it out half on the stock guage, ie between 0 and +7 is 3.5x100mmhg or 350mmhg which is approx 6.7PSI -
nissan fast says 1995/02 the build # itself is very low, ie 2353 build # so its very low in the early stages which is why feb 1995 is believable, if the build number was like 100,000+ then yeah it would be 97/98 but being very low, its likely to be 1995, as per NISSAN fast so 1) its a 1995, feb build (according to VIN and build plate) - assuming this is the correct plate for the car 2) its a midnight purple GTR 3) its a v spec 4) its not an s tune 5) it doesnt have an s tune block 6) if it has passenger airbag this could be a gotcha - conflicting info suggestions 1995 GTR did not have passenger airbag -- likely results are dash swap, passenger swap with series 2 GTR, car is a true series 2, or something else swapped dude it sounds like its too hard to bother with there should be tons of bog stock GTR R33s for sale its not worth your time and effort

standard v spec build 1995 , 02 colour is midnight purple no mention of s - tune why would there be? its not an s-tune dude i would just treat it like a normal GTR if its a legit S tune then he should be selling it for $40k clearly its not and he is making up crap to get more $ from you

Hi-flowing A R33 Turbo Vs R34 Turbo
paulr33 replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
mythbusters ahoy GTR twin turbos are 0.48 a/r rear so therefore a single GTS turbo would be larger, as its a big single, so 0.56 a/r rear for GTS turbo sounds about right and 0.63 a/r for the OP6 sounds about right again - OP6 being for VG30 single turbo setup -
Max Airflow On Std Afm And Max Power From Std Injectors?
paulr33 replied to Wacky Dee's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
if you cant afford the 6k for a proper turbo upgrade including ancillaries then dont bother changing the turbo just spend some money (small amount) on improving the std turbo setup, youll be surprised how well you can set it up any turbo change you do will be botched with poor parts and it will likely fail and cost you more in the end, and take longer so if you cant afford the 5-6k then dont bother. a $800 turbo is just a death trap waiting to fail, and put your engine at risk at the same time -

Data Logs From Power Cruise - Off Street Drags
paulr33 replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
when you ramp near 30 psi your afrs plummet to low 10s is this by design as part of a safety catch? your probably sacrificing power / throughput to cram more boost in safely - ie there might be no gain from this, or it could be negative gain you might find more power / throughput from less boost and mid 12.5 afr instead -
