CruiseLiner replied to StageZilla's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hey guys thanks for all the support and nice comments firstly i didnt buy a 260rs cause their wasnt any on offer in november 2004 when i actually bought this thing (and have only done 900km in it since ). series 1's were as good as it gets, and plus as mentioned i had the rb26 from my previous car (VL calais). The vl was a nice car and spotless but all the electrics and interior were crap so i needed a daily ride instead with comfort yet still a sleeper as i was always paranoid about parking the vl at shops/dodgy areas because of thieves and jeleous idiots. i spent 3 years on the vl project with plenty of time spent finding info on the conversion as no one in perth knew what an rb26 even was back then (over 5 years ago now). so i sorted it and managed a dyno figure of 350rwhp on 17psi, only revving to 7200rpm or so to save the motor (unknown condition and unknown km's) and ran a 12.0 at 118mph on its 3rd pass and snapped the tailshaft uni joint and bent a diff arm cause of the 10" slicks getting lotsa traction so i was sick of smashing driveline bits (broke a tailshaft uni on a previous drag meet aswell), so i needed something that wouldnt be a handful on the street and drivable in the wet, which the vl was like a car on ice for traction. so my choices were gtr 32 which was tooo old and dating interior wise, or a stagea, and so the late 96 stagea was a perfect choice, dual sunroofs, full electrics, spotless cond, etc and for 18k i was lovin it people dont associate the stageas with skylines because the taillights look different meaning no cop hassles and potential theives think its a done up volvo so the stageas rb25 went in the vl and sold it and the 26 went in the stagea so in the end i woulda saved money buying a 260rs str8 up but i did have highflow turbos/autronics, etc in the costs so it was fairly modified. gtr diff has been added after snapping a stagea rear axle in half from a rolling start coming on boost, so lets just see how the rest of the driveline hold up now : heres a few pics of the vl and the fully detailed engine bay with everything removed pretty much so it looks 100 times better than the stagea bay, plus i filled in all the unused holes and repainted it. sorry for the long post -

ok heres the car ready to be tuned finally after 8 months of problems and setbacks tuning is this thursday as mentioned, unless something goes wrong in the meantime no power figures for atleast 2-3 weeks as it will be getting run in. couple of pics with everything on, and my old man (the fabricator, hehe) made a turbo heat shield for the exhuast housing for about $10, after finding out the hks ones are $270 and gcg want $180 for a plain one. didnt come up too bad in the end enjoy, finally i get to rest for a while if all goes well -
yeah sounds right, damn was it dangerous, and nearly lost the car and trailer/vl once from swaying, my rear end of the vs commo was wayyy down so maybe that explains it and the car was on the trailer facing the same way as the vs. i find the hilux heaps better, and dont plan on towing anything for a while anyways now the stagea is going to be road drivable
-
as topic says, im currently bleeding my brakes and ive done all 4 wheels, but ive been told i gotta do the abs unit as well, and i have a r32 gtr workshop manual and it shows they have 2 nipples on top of the unit, but the stagea one doesnt, it has 2 lines running off the top. no nipplies in sight, any ideas???? wish funkymonkey would send me that damn workshop manual and i'd know
-
leaf springs are definately better for towing as it doesnt allow the sideways swinging of the rear end of the car unlike coilovers. i towed my vl calais rb26 on a car trailer about 4-5 times with my vs commodore v6 auto and damn was it a handful, and i couldnt go above 80kmh or it would sway like crazy, i absolutely hated it and refused to tow with it, and ended up using my old mans hilux with leaf springs and u can go over 100kmh easy as. gotta remember my commodore had stock springs/shockies so they are like jelly which didnt help.

Duncan's Torque Splitter In An Awd Stagea?
CruiseLiner replied to T0nyGTSt's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
the torque split controllers allow 100% drive to the rear wheels which is the main reason people want them, as u cant remove a fuse to do this like the r32 gtr's as the attessa keeps preload on the system and therefore burns out the clutches otherwise. they also allow any amount of front to back variation i'd imagine, like 20/80, 40/60, 50/50, 60/40, 80/20, i'd imagine?. they are best for ripping burnouts before a drag run or something -

Autronics Ecu, Who Here Is Using One, Or Used One?
CruiseLiner replied to CruiseLiner's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i have the smc early version (1.9 or something i think) and i bought it over 5/6 years ago now and i dont have the name of the dealer i bought it off, as a local shop got it for me brand new. or is the local tuning shop the actual dealer? and i dont remember seeing the serial number either which makes going on that autronics site difficult. mine has double dwell, auto tune, anti lag, etc all the features, ive run it before with the rb26 and no problems, but ive been warned they have trouble with over 450rwhp and with the CDI units not workin correctly? so anyone got any hp figures on say the top 10 autronics cars in Oz? or even around the world? i know keith from the GTR UK forums with a OS3L setup and running easy 9s is using one, dont know the exact details though. ive been told i need to run 2 cdi units to get it not to burn out coilpacks, sound like rubbish to you guys? also ive been talking to WetGTR about his setup/ecu a fair bit as well. cheers Brad -
hey guys just wondered who here is using an autronics ecu on their cars? and your thoughts on the ecu and how much power are you making, any problems with it? which model ecu, smc, smc2, smc4? using the cdi unit? has anyone been involved in changing idle and little things like that? im really keen on learning about the ecu and its features and wouldnt mind learning to eventually tune my self (though id start on a much cheaper engine than my 26 until i know what im doing). im running an autronics smc and i got a laptop and i plugged in the plug to the ecu and to the laptop and it says its unable to find connection and ive got the correct smc proram on the laptop so what could be the problem? any relevant info appreciated appreciated, and maybe it can be as useful as the power fc thread about setting it up/tuning etc cheers

good point i didnt even think about the different sized lights on series 2 the shape looks the same but maybe the measurements are different? anyone with a series 2 wanna measure from some main areas on the grille/light area and ill measure mine to compare?
-
welcome and just a note, the container in the boot area for the ATTESSA uses automatic tranny fluid, and genuine nissan "Matic D" is pretty well priced if ya need to top it up.
-
the bits on the grille area of the bumper look exactly the same as series 1 bumper to me... ive had mine on and off about 100 times the last few weeks so i pretty much know for sure its the same at the front (from that pic anyway)
-
i will possibly be interested depending on when u r making them and how much exactly oh and damn that tex modify stagea is awesome cheers Brad
-
nice find looks abit funny though, and the rear lights look as if they go up the sides of the tailgate same as volvos, but maybe thats just me
-
mine has been real economical lately but with the 25/auto i remember around 350-70km to a tank max, and i never really drove the 26 casually when i used it so only time i remember was 180km from a full tank, but that was thrashing it the whole time they aint very economical cars thats for sure, but remember the 1800kg is alot to pull.

sikaflex but dont expect to remove it without alot of struggle

i have been told numerous times by people that i couldnt use stock coils/or splitfires with the autronics CDI setup, only the mercury or msd coil setups, because they fire 3 (i think) times more than stock coils or something and therfore will burn out normal coils real quick.
