  1. Ok i manged to get up to 7t that time. right in the middle of the main pack
  2. Has anyone completed the nascar challenge with a controller? i'm up to the last race and am getting hammered. so far i have come dead last (and by a decent way) on each attempt. the others i passed relativle easily, but this third one at daytona is terrible. by the time i exit the corner i've lost too much speed and the rest of the field is off in the distance
  3. Oh and we've had superlap challenges at tsukuba in the past gt games. i'd like to see it done on the top gear test track. would have to be done in arcade mode though so you get penalties for cutting corners (does it have penalties for cutting corners on the TG track? i know it does if you hit the walls on other tracks)
  4. yeah the damage is split up in how it gets fixed (from the little i've read about it). some slowly fixes itself during the race, some is fixed at pit stops and i think some isn't fixed till you go to the section where you change the oil, etc.
  5. Funny you should say that. i just logged on to ask if anyone had seen some funny names. i had an opponent in a race in a honda called V. Take. in the current race i'm in there is a A. Ponce. made me lol.
  6. we've had a few of them up here (gympie is often a few degrees hotter than birssy in summer - and a few degrees cooler in winter), as well as the fact that my shop has no aircon and is generally hotter than the outside temperature.
  7. i could tell you how to get a permit to drive whatever car you like, but i should point out it may take some time to process. oddly enough the time it takes is the EXACT same amount of time between now and when you get your open licence......
  8. i'm sure the mods will close this very shortly. unless you own the rights to the manual (so in other words own the nissan company) then don't post them up for download as it is illegal.
  9. pretty sure they aren't a proper map sensor in the same way that other aftermarket ECU's will use them. the car will run without it since it uses the AFM to get fuel mixtures. i think they are more of a boost sensor. easy way to see if the NA has one though is to have a look for it. pretty sure on the r34 it's on the firewall (in the centre. but then it is friday arvo and 33 degrees so my brain may be short circuiting and making stuff up). shouldn't be too hard to spot. a little box with a vaccum line going into it and wires coming out
  10. i managed to get to coles carpark just as the storm got to gympie (just after 5). as usual it split up and went round us. we barely even got any rain. we got some rain out of the storm on wednesday but nothing else. dunno what we'll get out of the one today, but i'm getting sick of these mid 30's degree days with high humidity
  11. over the stock ecu you would recieve an increase of 10kw or so just from a tune on a stock car. if you were running higher boost the power gains would be closer to 20kw from a tune over a stock ecu (and a boost increase + tune would yeild about 30 or 40kw over the stock ecu and stock boost). the power gains from running an untuned PFC on a stock car would be minimal, if any. you may actually see a decrease in power.
  12. bov shouldn't make a difference under load.
  13. it's a series 1 r33 engine. most likely from a 93 model.
  14. exactly. in the older games if you got a bit of wheelspin mid corner it pretty much meant you'd be looking at where you had just come from in the blink of an eye. now you can keep feeding on the power and drive out of the slide. i have great fun in the easier races using a high HP car with the traction control off and just blazing the tyres round every corner. also understeer during braking is much easier to get out of in GT5 as well. you can lift off the brakes and straighten the steering and it will grip up again and you can get back on the brakes. also as you slow down hard on the brakes the front end grip actually improves the slower you get, rather than just continuing to understeer even at 10kmh.
  15. i opened the thread and started reading the story without paying much attention to the picture. (hadn't heard of the rapide and didn't realise it was a 4 door). so i'm reading away and saw that it said it was a sedan. looked up at the pic. thought "the front doesn't look too bad, just like most other astons really". then my eyes started moving towards the back. well i couldn't mash the keyboard and mouse fast enough to close the page, LOL. nah it's not that bad but it isn't the most attractive car in the Aston stable
  16. you do realise that what you are actually talking about doing is just as illegal as driving a turbo car? just slightly harder to get booked for. not trying to be patronising or anything like that, just making sure that you are aware of the legal implications of what you are doing.
  17. fair bit. few hundred for a decent size SSD (25gb or so)
  18. oh and i saved a replay of something funny that happened last night. i was doing the british lightweight cup race on the topgear test track. i was in my AC cobra or shelby cobra or whatever one it is. i was up against lotus' etc and was absolutely smashing them. on the last lap i was coming up out of hammer head towards the follow through and i could see the other cars coming down to the first corner. as i was getting to the tyres the cars were at chicago and were going across my path. i just kept the power on and managed to navigate betwen the last and 2nd last car as they crossed my path (they were heading to my left), overtook 2nd last on the right then shot through the gap between 2nd last and 3rd last. i saved the replay of it so i will either take a heap of screenshots of it, or record it on my phone and post it up sometime. i haven't watched the replay yet but i think it should look pretty cool.
  19. there have been 2. the first enables online play. pretty sure that one was 101mb. then you have to do a system update to get the next one. the second one apparently adds mechanical damage in online racing. it's 130mb. apparently there will be some free downloadable cars available on 24th or 25th of december. also in future updates some standard cars will be getting upgraded to premium models. this is also an interesting video showing the performance difference of a SSD compared to a standard HDD in a ps3 for loading times in GT5
  20. +1 +11ty
  21. i bought a set 3 or 4 years ago with near new tyres for around $350 to $400 (can't remember exactly).
  22. difference being that the GTR is a mass produced car while the others are somewhat more hand crafted and made in limited numbers.
  23. if the car is dead stock and you don't run higher boost, etc then you can get away with heat range 5 plugs. if you have a few minor mods then got the heat range 6 plugs. i would recommend the BCPR6ES plugs. i ran them in my 33 running 14psi and never had an issue. i pulled them out at 10,000kms and they probably could've easily gone another 5,000kms at least. i had iridiums in there before that and they only lasted about 20,000kms. start with 1.1mm gap plugs (so add -11 onto the end of the part number) and then if you have any misfire issues then gap them down to 0.8mm (you will need a feeler gauge). the other thing is to pull a plug out and check the gap with a feeler gauge. if they only have a 0.8mm gap then just stick with that gap.
  24. you should get it tuned ASAP. the tune that they put on there is really just to get the thing to run. they aren't really designed to drive on for longer periods of time.
  25. in any car the most G's you will feel will be launching in first gear. AWD will be the best for this as you can simply side step the clutch at high rpm (and hope something doesn't go bang, LOL). if you want something that gives the feeling of quick acceleration then a lag monster is what you are after. something with a big turbo that doesn't come on song until high in the rev range. it doesn't even have to make that much power, but if the turbo kicks in hard then it will give the impression of having lots of power. i've been in a 32 with a t71 (i think) on it. didn't make boost until about 5500rpm, made less power than my stock turbo'd 33 and ran a high 14 at the drags, but when it came on boost it felt great. it was just a pity that even a granny in an excel was already a pair of tail lights in the distance due to being gutless below 5500rpm.
