  1. Hey Shane, Have a read of this thread clicky This will give a lot of good info to look for when buying a Skyline. If your budget is $10k, I would look at the R34 four doors as there are a lot just under the $10k mark. In saying that, if you get the R33, you'll have cash left over for mods
  2. This week my wife and I drove through the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. The scenery was absolutely spectacular and I tried my best to capture it with my camera. If anyone gets the chance to do this, I would highly recommend it. Was an awesome adventure! These are just a handful of the literally hundreds of pictures I took.
  3. Since no one else had started one, I thought I'd get things rolling for 2014. I did a drive across a portion of Montana USA last week. Here are a couple of snaps I took along the way.
  4. Some of you might not see this as a big deal, but my wife and I moved to Canada from Australia only five months ago, so snow is very new to us. Last night we had the first snow (the photo's above were from Quebec which is an hour and a half flight North East of where we live) so I woke up early and took more than 50 photos around the front of our house of the snow. Here is my pick of the bunch.
  5. As promised... Some snowy photos from Quebec City, Canada
  6. I was in Quebec City last week and spent some time walking around the city. Here are two of the shots I have captured of the Saint Laurent River on the first day. The next day it started to snow, so there are quite a few snow shots to come. Flickr have changed their website and I don't know what they have done, but it seems the links on the photo's don't work.
  7. I've been transferred to Canada for on a two year contract and will be doing plenty of travelling around the USA and Canada while I'm here. I was driving across Nevada last week and got a few shots. These ones are my favourites. 8. The guys at c-Red are worth it. Their prices are very reasonable and I have gone to them for many years with my R33 and my R34 with no problems.
  9. Just Cars is about your only option while on your P's, but trust me, you don't want to claim with them. As soon as you are able, switch over to Shannon's. They are much better. I had a minor accident in my R34 while I was insured with Just Cars. I rear ended someone who decided for no apparent reason to just stop on the highway. It wasn't a big impact, so the front bumper, headlights and a few bits and pieces needed to be replaced. I didn't get a choice of repairer and the guys I was forced to go with didn't even know what kind of car it was. It was taking so long that I ended up going to see the repairer and my car had been sitting there untouched collecting dust as they didn't know where to get parts for it. I ended up ordering the parts myself for the repairs. It took just over six months to get my car back when it should have taken a max of four weeks and that was only due to delivery times. On top of that, the paint job they did on the front bumper was that bad that it had drip marks on it and within three weeks of getting the car back, the one side of the front bumper came loose and I had to refit it myself. All I'm saying is, you don't really have a choice, but if you do have to claim, push as hard as you can to pick your own repairer and don't get quotes from anyone till you have done a background check.
  10. Hi the nail on the head shaun
  11. The big issue that occurred due to the mining boom was that the BHP's, Rio Tinto's etc were throwing jobs at people with over the top salaries. Now that the mining has slowed for them, they have realised that they have more people than they ever needed, but during the boom, this wasn't noticed. If you go work on one of these sites, you will see there are three men for every one man job. They have then decided that they need to cull a lot of people to streamline their business and this resulted in a lot of people without work. Their are, however, still a lot of projects going on. Even during the down turn we have been hiring more people from Australia and Overseas. The big issue now is, people who have come from the BHP's, Rio Tinto's etc have a lifestyle that requires the crazy high salary, so that is what they ask for. Other companies can't afford that, so they give the job to someone else. To give you an idea, I got offered a job by a mining company when I was one year out of university. The salary on offer was more than double what I was earning, but I realised it wasn't sustainable. If I took the job, it would have been great, but I would have been the first on the chopping block if times changed. This was quite a few years ago now and I'm glad I made the decision I did.
  12. It has nothing to do with Asian workers taking Aussie jobs mate. There is a massive skills shortage in Western Australia. I work in the mining game myself and you just can't find people. People are being offered stupid money because there are so many options. The reason companies have to source people from overseas is not to save cost, but rather to fill the positions they need filling. The other issue is due to all the options, people work somewhere for three months and then go to a different company. Training people becomes expensive as the turn over of staff is ridiculous. If you bring people from overseas, they are generally on a contract so they can't leave as easily meaning you are not constantly retraining. Work is so easy to come by here that I have not applied for a single job since graduating. They have all come to me. Something else to keep in mind, this forum has many Asians on it, so probably not the best place to say this sort of thing
  13. You need to get a copy of the rules from DOT for modifications that are legal. Some people mistake permits or engineering certificates for a "do what I like and get away with it" permit. For example, if you lower your car to 2cm off the ground, you will never get a permit or engineers certificate. You need to mod within the rules as well. Just something to keep in mind.
  14. Check out KYP. They are probably your best bet in Perth.
  15. I owned an R34 and a Supra at the same time a few years back. The supra was awesome to drive around when it was just me and my wife in the car. If we were taking anyone else, it would have to be the R34. At the end of the day, it all comes down to what you want to use the car for. Yes the stock internals in the Supra can handle more power, but if you are driving the car on the road as a daily, you wouldn't want that kind of power anyway. So, for a car to be good fun to drive that can be modded to decent power for daily use and still be practical, I would go for the R34.
  16. As Hanaldo said, this is a big misconception when it comes to engineering certificates. The purpose of an engineering certificate is to confirm that a car is safe if you have done a none factory modification. For example, if you put an LS1 into your R33, you should have a engineering certificate to say that the car can handle that engine including brakes, suspension, chassis etc. Illegal modifications are illegal no matter what. If your car is below 100mm, then it is an illegal ride height. No engineer will sign that off as it is against regulations.
  17. What Goran is saying it true. Engineering certificates are meant to prove that a cars modifications are still safe if it has been changed from the manufacturers spec. For example, if you take the engine out of your car and put in a twin turbo LS1, you'll need an engineering certificate to prove that the car can withstand the power, the brakes will be sufficient, the engine is fitted properly with proper engine mounts etc, etc. Having an exhaust that is too loud or a car that is too low is not an engineering issue. That is just breaking the rules. Sorry to tell you, but you can't do illegal mods on your car and expect and engineer to just sign them off.
  18. When I still had my R33 I got the roof resprayed. It was rubbed down and prepared properly. At the same time I got a GTR spoiler sprayed and fitted. I got all this for $800 from Mel at Assured Smash Repair in Canningvale. He does awesome work. I have also got him to do a full respray on my supra as well as fixing the BMW that got rear ended. Every time he does a second to none job. Would recommend him to anyone.
  19. C-Red all the way, but check out the Consolidated Workshop Thread clicky
  20. I would fight JustCars as much as possible to get your own preferred repairer. They have all the cheap and nasty repairers listed. For minor front end damage to my skyline I was forced to go to one of their repairers. A job that was quite simple turned into a nightmare. I had to source the parts myself as the repairer had no idea, the paint was a joke, you could actually see drips of paint on the bumper and I had to chase the job the entire time. The repair took 6 months from start to finish when it should've taken 1-2 weeks of repair time plus a bit of time for parts to arrive max!
  21. Pretty sure they've closed down
  22. How long is a piece of string? As the previous guys have said, tell us what you are looking for and we can point you in the right direction
  23. Of course all the lights plus horn will drain the battery, but if the battery is already drained, it will be a very obvious way of testing.
