  1. this is all you need to know. everytime I've tried to buy one in japan my (knowledgeble) friends there have talked me out of it. When I asked if they were good his exact words were: "looks part only". meaning it's just useless bling. if you like the look by all means get one. if you want a stiffer mount for your engine just use the nismo engine and box mounts.
  2. novak, there are "regular" 94 models. not all 94s were Vspec. If you really must have a late model the look at a 93 or 94 non-vspec. for what you want to do to it paying extra for the vspec would be a waste of money. the vspec is not that special anyway. but I would forget about the year all together and just look for a very nice, clean stock or close to stock GTR. the year doesn't matter. I've seen some thrashed, shagged out 93 models and I've seen some absolutely mint 89 and 90 models. buy the car on condition, not on year model.
  3. just looked and it went for $730. not bad. not a massive bargain, but better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick.
  4. go for it tiger!
  5. agreed. actually re-treads should be illegal on anything. it's even worse that peolpe use them on trucks and taxis etc.
  6. yep, it's the right region. (PAL). and will play your PS2 games.
  7. ctjet, nothing really wrong with that PS3, but it's USED so the price reflects that.
  8. actualyl even though kralster is a bit of a whinger I do agree with him a little. stuff on ebay is no longer (comparitively) as cheap as it once was. example. I bought a game that was coming out. retail was $90. got it on ebay for about $65, $10 postage and it took about 8 days to get to me (which pissed me off as I wanted it in a hurry). the next day after bidding on it I was in JB HiFi, and sure enough, there was the game priced within a dollar of what I paid for the other one (inc post) and I could have had it on the spot, and returned it easily if problems etc. another example. I'm getting a new TV for the living room. A sony braxia X series 40". retail is around $4500. most places have it atm for around $4000. cheapest on ebay is $3600 + post. I walked into JB, said, c'mon you can do better than $3900, he straight out said, ok how about $3600? and of course there is always room to negotiate a little further. another example. I just bought a creative zen micro 5gb mp3 player from harvey norman. it was marked down from $399 to $80. I've looked on ebay and there are none cheaper than $150. so I no longer blindly buy stuff of ebay. always check the real world price. and having owned a japese ps3 at launch when I buy another one it will be aussie version and I will probably buy it from a retail store. I just hope they are not made in china.
  9. lol, it's a sweet rig. pentium D, 4gb ram, ok HD but the two 20s are the crowning glory. they both have 2 DVI inputs, all the good gear 5m/s response. as for what do I need with dual 20s? well why not? means I only need to alt+tab half as much as I used to! and it looks damn impressive.
  10. c'mon. did you really need people to tell you that a full GT spec car costing around a million dollars new, and purpose built in every aspect would not be practical to afford, purchase, import, comply, register and even drive?
  11. are you kidding? you want to import a Super GT car? Do you have half a million dollars to spend? if so, there are better ways to spend it. if not, then you must have been typing with one arm under the table...
  12. i have a question too. I have a new pc at work, i'm running dual 20inch LCDs. now, my pc came with what looks like a DVI-D dual, but it doesn't have the wide horizontal pin. the plug is the normal DVI shape, but it is all little pins all the way like an old serial printer cable. my monitors both have DVI-D single link inputs. so at the moment I have this splitter cable plugged into my PC's card. then the stupid splitter has 2 VGA plugs on the output end, so I am using a VGA to DVI-D conversion cable. what this tells me is I'm converting DVI-D to VGA, then VGA back to DVI-D which surely is not ideal. Ni, do you know of what I'm talking about, and if someone make a splitter cable that is DVI-DVI? edit: yes, twin 20inchers kicks arse!
  13. holy cow. 26 at ec will be nuts. that would mean some cars would be going out straight into other cars on their hot lap. as i think they do 10 second gaps (2 cars go out at once, maybe 3 sec between them). so 260 seconds gives us about 4 and a half minutes to get 26 cars out there which means the first guys will actually be getting traffic entering the track even on their second flying lap out! nasty.
  14. well at EC they run 14 at once. 7 groups of 2. I wouldn't even have a problem with say 18 or 20 (though 15 would be better) on EC as long as they are all within a few seconds a lap of each other. release at 5 second intervals and you're golden.
  15. QLD is too bloody hot mate. i'm european. anything above about 15 degrees is getting toasty for me.
  16. ok, I'm back on the case. That sucks on the 50cm cable thing. a bitch for places like eastern creek where the pit wall is on the inside of the circuit (passenger side). is there an option to order with the 2.5m timer-ir receiver cable?
  17. the weather is one thing I love about melbourne. gives me a chance to wear some of the many, many jackets I have in the closet that can only be worn for about 1 week a year in sydney. I like melbs. I like sydney too. I could happily live in either.
  18. well my main criticism of the interclub championship in nsw is they don't split the sessions into classes, they split them into clubs. so you end up with type 1 running with guys in SVD, race cars with road cars etc. this means that you can have half a lap ruined stuck behind a slower car that is completely oblivious to your existence and a high probability that if you try and stick it up the inside they will just turn in on you. I have at one point passed 8 cars in a lap! so i'm not so worried about an increase in cars per session, but I really think the sessions need to be groups based on class, not on club. if it were split by class there would not be the huge disparity in times and hence not as many laps wasted passing slower cars.
  19. lol, $20K repair on a 996 GT2 must have been just a scratch! when my friends and I ran a GT3 Cup Car for 2 year the repair bill was astounding. carbon doors aren't cheap, we went through 2 of them. a kevlar rear bar runs to around $8,000 from memory (we went through 2 of them in one race weekend! porsche ran out so the third one was a fibreglass second handie). and finaly when he stuck it into the wall at eastern creek the repair bill last I checked was $80K and climbing...
  20. you love the rear end don't you mark? and just to give you some help. GTT and GTR rear ends are different. one easy to spot one is the way the rear shocks fit to the hubs. if your new hubs accept a fork style shock then they are GTR. if the rear diff is a 34 GTR one it won't be 4.11 i don't think. I'm pretty sure the 34 GTR diff is different to 32 and 33 as the 34 uses the getrag 6 speed (could be wrong).
  21. thanks duncan. that's what f**ked me. trying to stick a 1.25 pitch heli-coil into a 1.5 pitch hole (well i had run the 1.25 tap through but it didn't remove all the old thread). duncan, if you want to put the 12mm bolt calipers on a 14mm hub, check one of my posts earlier in this thread. you can buy a kit with 12mm bolts and small sleeves so no need to convert the calipers or the hub. Ps, I was at nathans the other day and picked up some nice cheap 33 brembos. i told nathan to tell you thanks... all jokes aside I had a look at your bremos sitting there and they are definately a coarser thread than 1.25. it looked like 1.5 or even 1.75.
  22. actually it's not a good idea in my book to go anything over about 40km/h. re-treads should be illegal. buy some good tyres. 15inch tyres are cheap as chips. for $500 you could get some decent tyres that will probably last 5 times your retreads and they will handle well, stop well and you'll have more fun driving.
  23. it has nothing to do with carbies or efi. it's all about how ignition is controlled. I would say if ignition is being controlled by the crank driven dizzy then you have no hope. if it has an ignition only computer then MAYBE, but i doubt it.
  24. how does not having an exhaust mean you can't drive/steal a car? sounds like a form of theft prevention i haven't heard of.
