  1. This sounds about right
  2. Getting the timing light to work with the loop wire is not always easy. For a surefire way of doing it. Get a spark plug lead (old or new) remove number one coilpack and put the lead over the spark plug. Slip a bolt into the end of the coilpack and put the other end of the spark plug lead over the bolt. Now your skyline is oldschool with leads and sh!t Clip your timing light over that and you'll be sweet. I say this cause we could not get the loop wire to work on my car and had to do this
  3. You can reset the ecu and i think it will slightly advance timing on first start then bring it down as it learns what the engine is doing. I suggest checking base timing then maybe reset your ecu as well. Might work a treat
  4. Ok so that depends on if it's raw fuel leaking somewhere or if the mixture is becomming rich Fuel leak is pretty straight forward. I know vs commodore urea get a blocked breather and certain times fume the cabin with fuel lol Running rich will either be ECU or tune issue. Or air leaving the system after it has been through the afm. So this would occur only on boost if there was a leak or with an atom bov. At Least that's all I can think of ATM Any more info you can give?
  5. Yeah mine sits about half way when up to temp, but its a 33
  6. yeah I'd check your timing, It will at least rule that it if thats not it, but it may have something to do with it Standard ECU?
  7. your dropping the surface area available for shifting air by having it "rubbed down" by the intercooler pipes. So yes you have decreased the efficency of the fan. Is it enough to cause issues? Hard to say
  8. If the clutch is still free spinning with the engine off (and cold) then I dont see you having the problem of it "locking on" when it reaches temp. This would indicate that if the clutch was worn that it would not engage fully at all. But they do free spin normally Please tell us a bit more info, firstly, What temps are you driving in when it is fully engaged. And secondly how hard are you driving it/how long are you sitting in hot traffic etc, and even what speeds you are doing It may be a case of your car getting up to temp and then never getting below the temp in which the clutch fan engages. That would mean your clutch is operating fine its just the conditions are keeping it engaged. Also, are you sure its not still rubbing? As I've said before I never even notice my fan come on, doesnt really seem to rob any power. And I wouldnt think that the RB20's are that inferior that there losing half there power because of a fan lol
  9. I'm not as familiar with R32's as I am with R33's but I think this was discuss a while ago (when talking about adjusting idle) and on the 33's you have to unplug the TPS to get it into base idle mode, but I think the R32's you had to unplug the AAC valve instead to get it into this base idle mode? I've seen R33's with there TPS not even plugged into anything that still run fine (This is going back a while) so I guess they are much more dependant on the Air flow then throttle position to run
  10. 600rpm is to low for your idle. You should change it to about 850rpm, or check your base idle anyway for starters. Have you checked the timing since you installed the new CAS? It might be slightly out which is causing these issues. Probably not AFM if theres such a noticable difference when you unplug it.. If you know someone with the same type AFM then you could try and borrow theres and see if it makes it any better just to rule it out From the sounds of it, I'm Leaning towards it being a timing issue. Have a search on here to see how to check your timing
  11. You didnt specify at what times you were gettng the heavy fuel smells, so I assumed while boosting. Does it smell like there is a fuel leak somewhere? Is your fuel economy really bad? I highly doubt it is a TPS issue. Try resetting the ECU (If it is a stock ECU) purely because this is a simple test to do. But if you want to see if its a TPS issue, I think unplugging the TPS will put it into base idle mode anyway, so it will idle without the aid of the ECU (as far as I remember). This mode is usually used to adjust your idle to get it to sit right, so if you unplug the TPS and your idle stays high then it might be an issue with how your idle is adjusted (eg. it is adjusted to high and your computer slowly brings it back down to an acceptable level Give that a go
  12. I have one in mine Great fuel pump, Quiet and hasnt missed a beat in the last 2 and a half years
  13. If it's stock ecu reset it, could help Also if your running stock ecu and more boost then normal it will dump fuel in when it boosts. My car on stock ecu at around 9-10pso was getting an AFR of 10:1 Worth a try for the 5 mins it takes. If you don't know how just unplug your battery and hold the brakes down for a bit. Play with the switches and stuff. The idea is toget any residual electricity out of the system

Is anyone else a little worried with what the tail of the cyclone is doing? Im no expert in weather but it seems to be nearly starting to swirl itself..... Infrared Loop
  16. All the best to everyone over the next day or two. I know we probably wont cop much but who knows what the next 24 hours will bring.........

Phil, youve done the matress thing with your car, probably the best and only thing you can do. Live Webcam, Townsville CBD Magnetic Island hidden by rain now, would be pretty rough over there, did they evac everyone off there? My Weather app, current data (wind speed): Mackay - 30km/h Townsville - 46km/h Cairns- 11km/h Bowen 46km/h So up north of the cyclone is defenitly experiencing "the calm before the storm"

wind is slowly picking up here (no where near cyclonic but), been raining on and off all morning. My iPhone weather app says "Squally rain, damaging winds" as todays forcast, Squally rain...... Who says that?
  19. Thats the Cold start valve, not the air regulator The AAC valve is the air regulator, that item youve listed only effects how the car operates on cold start. And I think those hoses that are attatched are coolant lines. But if your still looking for it, pretty sure its on the bottom of the stock manifold.

Considering what has happened in Brisbane and the level of warning that has been given with all the cyclone stuff..... I would be (and am) keeping my car in the safest possible spot. I think insurance companies are going to be as unhelpful as they are allowed to be
  21. you'll probably find that the cars that have broken a stud over time may or may not have a leak due to being on the car for hundreds of hot/cold cylces were the gasket has bonded slightly to the head and manifold. It's a bit hit and miss, I had 1 broken stud and didnt have any exhaust leaks but others might not be so lucky. With a new gasket as said above, this will not work as the gasket will leak pretty quickly

its all well and good to say "just head south" but theres alot of things to think about. I have it pretty lucky, being a fair bit south of the centre of where the cyclone is expected to hit, and being in a relatively new house in a fairly safe part of town Its saving me from having to worry about evacuating. I dont envy Phil's position at all or anyone else up north, Its not looking good is there anymore on your reliable source saying it will be a CAT 5 Phil? Ive heard similar reports from someone else, but I'm not sure where you are getting it from lol

It's a very real option Phil. ATM I think it will hit a bit lower then Townsville but that's just a gut feeling I have for some reason...... I've heard basically what you just said from someone else. You people with your inside info I'm on night shift this week so if I do happen to work tomorrow night I'll probably be seeing the early signs on my way home. If you feel unsafe where you live then I wouldn't lane you for packing up and running south...... Just remember it could go down that way as well yet, although I don't think it will
