I have worked in an engineering trade for over 20 years, and have never heard of this "Glazing" of synchro rings. Frankly it sounds like bollocks to me. Can you provide an example (not just an anecdotal forum quote from an unconfirmed source) of how lubricating oil can cause the surface of a toothed bronze ring to "glaze"? And why would this "glazing" prevent a bronze ring from engaging with a steel gear.? Using an oil grade that's too thick can cause synchro issues (much like cold oil in a gearbox) but the number of people who swear by Redline Lightweight Shockproof in Skylines and Supras (both well known for being notchy) suggest that this alleged "glazing" might just be a wives tale. The synchro ring is essentially a freewheeling gear on the shaft, and it assists the gears in matching speed before engagement; if it is effectively locked to the shaft by a very thick oil film; it doesn't work properly. Also, as they wear (being bronze; they are designed to) they lose their sharp edges and this also reduces their ability to engage. This is also a source of engagement noise. The lighter the grade of oil; the better synchro engagement (less crunching) will be; go too light, and you lose the damping effect of the oil and the gearbox will be noisy. Shift action will improve. Go far too light and the oil can't protect the metal components in the gearbox, as the oil film gets forced from between the metal surfaces, polymer chains get broken down, excessive heat gets generated and components wear prematurely. I'm not trying to give you a hard time Tom, but bad information is just as useless as no information at all.

That's pretty much the way they sound; mine made some very odd noises for a while (sounded like the BOV was leaking, then sealing) before it became extremely noisy, but still made boost (dropped a blade tip) then failed completely (dropped the rest of the blades) about 500km later. You might want to start exploring your rebuild options before it fails completely. Mine lasted until 105,000km but I'm pretty sure it had around 20-30,000km more in reality. There is no ironclad guarantee that the number on the odo, is the actual reading.

That's an amazing end result! The soft clear coat on Black Nissans makes them so hard to maintain without doing damage while washing; but the hard work is definitely worth it.

The rate increase issue would mostly centre around the wall thickness of the tube used to make the hollow bar; the thicker the wall, the closer in rate to a solid bar. All the calcs in the white paper, were made using known I.D and O.D measurements; if someone wants to cut an OEM bar; it would be fairly easy to calculate the rate increase. -

First oil change since new turbo went on, and fresh oil in both diffs. Diff oils came out very clean, but both magnetic drain plugs had a decent amount of filings; possibly not cleaned at last interval. -
Thanks for the update; it's always a bit difficult when you're dealing with outside suppliers, timeframes often blow out. I'm happy to wait.

The obvious advantage with using the OEM solenoid is that no one but you will know it is controlled by the EVC. I know what I'll be doing when I get off my arse & fit one.

This is the problem with not applying a clear coat over the polished surface; alloys oxidise & go dull if you don't seal the surface. Or you can keep on poishing...

A slightly different twist on the "Supercar"; both are bona fide Supercars of their respective eras & country of origin. While I was out at Wisemans ferry with a mate on the bike; And no sooner had I finished taking these; this turned up! This had massive 2 piece rotors & Brembos and a half cage that was so well hidden I didn't notice for about 5 mins!

At the risk of stating the obvious; your son's boss sounds like a galactic penis. Is there any recourse for him, as that sounds like unfair dismissal to me. If I'd been fired every time I was late back from lunch as a young bloke; I'd have had quite a lot of jobs. Hopefully his next job won't see him under the thumb of a asshat like that guy.

Not to stink up your thread too much Adam, but regarding the fit of the supplied rear links; I agree they are a little limiting when it comes to adjustment. The KLC 109 H/D links are a much more elegant solution. Much greater available articulation, and completely service free once fitted. Cheers, Dale. -
I know exactly what you mean; my parents are aging, I see them slowly deteriorating. It makes you feel a little helpless; but the way out of that is to be a part of it, which is what you're doing. The important thing is a positive outlook; if your dad has goals for his recovery, he'll do well. A loving family and their support (and a little arse kicking along the way) he'll be back on his feet. If I hear of anything suitable in my travels; I'll be sure to let you know, and I'm sure others will too. Terry's advice is truly worth it's weight in gold.

Hey Josie, sorry to hear about your dads brush with death there, sounds like he's very lucky to have a supportive family to help him. The hospital should be able to point you in the direction of support services that may be able to help you, and a lot of pharmacies have gear available for hire in the immediate future. Don't forget that there is financial aid available through the government, but generally there are plenty of hoops to jump through. Don't pay any attention to trolls telling you not to post; they can get stuffed. Best of luck with everything.
