So, My Car Turns Off While I'm Driving...
SargeRX8 replied to SkyBlue92's topic in General Maintenance
Do you have a blow off valve which vents to atmosphere, goes PSSSH when you clutch in? -
What do you suspect caused it? How old is the motor?
-
Is that dotted line the new power curve? I like the way it comes on f**king hard but doesn't hold power. Tao was trying to do something similar with a second turbo to pre spool on idle. Didn't get far I don't think.
-
It could be anything. I'm going to say noisy lifters. If you had a big end spun, you would know. It would sound more like a hammer on your block. If its a light tap, knocking sound, its probably head related. I'd put some new oil in it and see what it does. If the problem gets worse, louder, constant etc it may well and truly be a big end or some other thing at the bottom.
-
Pretty sure mine runs all the time. The clutch fan? Runs off the pulley off the water pump? Its got no electrical components and comes on by engine torque. Isn't it always on?
-
If its raining, the day won't have the potential of being f**king awesome. The pies are good, I bought some last time and took em home ate em before work. Great stuff.

Ive done it all before. I can do it without pictures. If you aren't far from Parramatta, I can probably give you a hand. I won't do it for you but I can tell you its actually quite fun and rewarding knowing you done a timing belt. I do suggest you DO NOT use a gates belt. Noisy and you need to get it perfect tension or you will cop horrible noise. I done mine twice. I also didn't change the cam seals. My belt was already changed along with the cam seals when the clutch was done, but I done the belt anyway because one of my bearings was noisy(over tensioned belt maybe?). Source your bearings direct from Japan, its much cheaper. You can do it without pictures. I had the manual for it somewhere, the only thing its good for is knowing how much torque to torque shit up to. Yes you need a torque wrench. Manuals and people suggest you remove your radiator. I find this pointless, although you are doing your major service, you probably should. Makes life easier and you can clean your radiator. I can dismantle my car in about 25 minutes, change the belt in about 5 - 10 and have it all back together all in about an hour maybe 2 hours time depends how much dicking around you gotta do. First time I done it took about 4 hours. Next day because I had everything at hand and knew everything, started 9am finished 9:45 lol. The harmonic balancer is a bitch to get off. Even with a very tight hand brake and 4th gear holding it, it was still a tough mother f**ker. People say you can shred gears doing it this way, but hundreds have done it day in day out and never had an issue.

Can be an intermittently failing cas. It could be many things but its stopped. Until it comes back I don't think it would be much worry. As said above, could just be carbon build up.

Engine Light Flashes When High Boost
SargeRX8 replied to Jack-'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The stock ecu doesn't flash the engine light when it knocks. I really doubt there is a tune on the ecu. I recon its the stock pfc map. None the less, your car is pinging. Change the fuel or use the hand controller to get rid of some timing. -
Yeah I think they do, there isn't a separate ECU. Even a power FC wouldn't work in there.
-
Shit balls f**k lol, I meant you can tell the difference between a failing fuel pump/lean pop and misfire. If he doesn't have lean popping issues, he MIGHT not have a failing fuel pump. If it was well and truly failing though, he most certainly would. He would have starting issues too. Even holding revs on idle will cause it to lean pop.
-
You don't need a dyno. To diagnose for exhaust leaks, look for black shit building up anywhere where there are joints in the exhaust system. Another way is a piece of hose in your ear and run it around different joints in the engine bay, if you find an exhaust leak it will sound like a hiss on idle, or louder if its a big leak. Testing the fuel pump; Is the car hard to start? Does it lean pop when on power? The car will kind of turn into a machine gun when you are on boost. If you hear this you either are misfiring or having a lean condition. Either coil packs or fuel pump. Testing for intake leaks can be done two ways, you actually test the intake by charging it with air and sealing it off, or the other way you look for leaks, holes, cracks or anything which looks out of place. You don't need a dyno to find anything. I have found almost every single car issue I have ever had right in my back yard, and I am a computer science graduate. All the stuff Ive mention isn't skyline specific, its general mechanic stuff.

If your fuel pump is failing, you will get pops, like the car is shitting out self, believe me I know. You can very easily tell the difference between a failing fuel pump and lean pop. If you are losing power without any change from the exhaust sound, ie it still sounds like the engine running smooth, the problem is somewhere else and I would doubt the afm. A failing afm should cause shit idle too. The woosh sound you hear is interesting too, it could be the cause of all your problems. Have you properly checked and made 1100% sure that you don't have a loose or slipped pipe in your intercooler line anywhere, or anywhere in your intake side? I popped off a cooler pipe, instant slug, loss of power etc but some how managed to idle okish. try to fix it first without spending money. Start easy, do the stuff you can do and you should be able to fix or pin point the problem to have it fixed. You pay someone to find your problem, you pay big.. You might have an exhaust leak, either head > manifold, manifold > turbo, turbo > dump...

Rb26 Plenum Adopter Kit For Rb25Det
SargeRX8 replied to alvinT's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to get an aftermarket plenum? The gtr unit has been known to run cylinder 5 and 6 leaner due to its internal design... -
My car fails to start first time, most of the time when cold. Read about it skyline starting then stalling on first start, its very very common yet there is no uniform fix. Some say water temp sensor, some say cas, some say tune, some say leaky injectors. I honestly have no idea but I don't care anymore, i'm used to it. I've also got an r33, when you do your reading you will see its mostly r33's that do it.

Why Are My Brakes Screaming For?

I done that too lol, I twisted the pin with a screw driver to loosen it and the damn thing flung out. -
Car Enthusiasts Read This

Street driven with Grace; Track built to race. I think the initial step would be a facebook group. The next step would be to get names into the situation. I am sure some of the boys who support SAU(top secret imports pops to mind first) would be in on this. Somehow get some publicity at SAU planned cruises, get some publicity at the SAU track events. Then again when you think about it. The RTA just spent how much money to tighten up, phase out, and bring in new laws on modifying cars. I'm abit confused as to what we are asking here. Are we asking to let mods pass easier? Are we asking for changes to exhaust noise levels? Pollution levels? -
Why Are My Brakes Screaming For?
SargeRX8 replied to SargeRX8's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Its been about a thousand km's on fresh surface rotors. Still noisy as f**k. Very consistent noise too. Sometimes noise in the morning the first instance you use the brake, noise when they are warm, and noise when they are hot. I'm ordering new pads. I already tried a chamfer on the edges, no luck. My retainers and clips are brand spanking new from Nissan. -
Just spotted a 34gtr plates gdzila.
-
What I meant to say was when the car is stationary, ie free rev to 5100rpm, not driving with load. /sarcasm

Rb25Det 300Rwkw Where To From Here?
SargeRX8 replied to WMDC35's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
E85 will get you to at least 320 -
Maybe their regulations are based on the capabilities of the car and not road rules. Sure it might not make sense but they would probably just throw it back in your face saying 5100rpm 2nd gear on the freeway is about 80km/h. They also test the car only in idle. I am pretty sure the car makes more noise on load. We can't look for little loop holes, as they will get shut when they are found. We need rules changed or altered. Like someone said before, if Holden are having showroom cars which are too loud out of manufacturer, doesn't that tell you something about their shit old laws? I live near a main road, 2km away and you can still hear those trucks use their compression brakes, stopping, and then accelerating. You can't govern the rules unfairly. The road is there to share, then lets share the same rules. Pollution is one thing, noise is another. Everything makes noise. Regulate the pollution as that will do more harm. My neighbours make more noise, as people, than my car does. Dogs make more noise. Lawn mowers make more noise. The f**king garbage man at 5am makes more noise. Yet people only care about that skyline coming down the road. I hate posting in this thread, makes me frustrated and I can't post straight lol.

Then they ask for your rego number and send you out an EPA notice.

Get a little light through the boot of the clutch fork, you should be able to see the pressure plate, you will know if its stock or not. My pressure plate is rated for about 2800 or 3000ft pound and feels close to stock, not stock though. I just don't understand why the jim berry clutch cost so much more than what I bought. He calculated that this clutch should hold up to 650nm - 700nm of torque.

Best Rb25 Turbo Upgrade For Drifting
SargeRX8 replied to Cr@zY FreD's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I hate saying this, but my cousin bought a built RB30, second hand for about $900. Nothing attached to it though and its the Rb30 head.
