The End In Sight For Falcons And Commodores
R31Nismoid replied to God_speed's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Not entirely, but a part? Most certainly. They are getting money into their coffers to represent, and are not necessarily doing it in the right way. At the end of the day they should be at some length petitioning the Gov't, that's meant to be in their side, to make required changes to reduce external stresses and thus not requiring hike after hike in wages. Running a small business myself I'm seeing it daily - No surprise business in Australia is struggling in many sectors (we are being propped up by a few, and luckily, some very smart people in the RBA rather than Gov't treasury). BTW - 300 Million was just given out to Holden IIRC, so not American big, but it's still propping them up. -
How Can I Improve My 0-100 Time?
R31Nismoid replied to tripsteady's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I've told you before to start topics in the correct sections. From now on, if you won't take the 5 seconds to go to the right area, I'll just lock your threads. It is a waste of Admin's time to keep moving your threads every week. There is a DEDICATED area for Drag racing, so use it. -
Wasn't there somewhere that tested the difference between E85 and E70 in terms of timing and found there wasn't much in it? Where something that was E30/E40 vs E70/E85 the difference was far from linear where the lower content was closer to PULP. So effectively once above a certain percentage the results are diminishing

The End In Sight For Falcons And Commodores
R31Nismoid replied to God_speed's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Has the increase of the Aussie dollar seen the prices drop? A 200k car should cost around 20k less than it did 18 months ago... Of course not once dollar of that saving has been passed on So it will be interesting to see but it's long term and won't occur until well into 2020, but you would think so if the LM does die off a little. Then by the same stroke (as a mate pointed out) Audi and some other manufacturers have dropped prices quite noticeably and you are getting quite a bit for 80k currently where you were not 18 months ago. Perhaps this is where the shift is currently in price bracket terms. It would be interesting to see if Toyota do expand or go the other way, logic would suggest on a cost basis - the other way. -
The End In Sight For Falcons And Commodores

My usual email group (about 20 or so mates), this has been one of the main topics of discussion for the day (a good 200-300 emails)... Labour rates are up so high now it's just not economical to manufacture in this country any more across many industries. Wonder where the Unions will be, having priced their own members out of jobs, probably nowhere. Of course that is partly because of spiralling bills and costs of living, then add in other factors, so it is but one piece of a much bigger failing puzzle that the Gov't just aren't addressing or simply don't want too given it's tough decision (read: unpopular) time and has been for a while. So overall not a surprising move at all really. Expect to see Toyota do the same thing and make an announcement in the next 12 months or so once they've evaluated their positions now the two major players are effectively throwing in the towel. A sad day indeed as I hear from a source that's seen the new/updated models, will be announced shortly from Holden, are very amazing to look at over the VE. -
Read the FI section - and search with "E85" There are PLENTY of threads that go into intricate details - so closing this. That said with a .63 GT35 has always been a bad turbo combination, simply changing to .82 you can net around 370rwkw on 20-22psi on pump with minimal lag increase (also plenty of detail in the FI section)
-
Yeah as you've said they are just top end motor builds with huge boost in mind for outright top end. No doubt you could bring them on sooner if you built a motor accordingly and never planned to run more than 20-24psi type of thing. Interesting results from the point of view that they are just so close, didn't expect that at all. Would be interesting to see them play with timing though as you said because @ lower boost levels you'd think more timing could've been plugged in etc. None the less a good read and differences @ various PSI levels etc.

2860-5S Vs T04Z 1/4Mile Times
R31Nismoid replied to sickr33's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Your MPH is near on perfect for the power you are making, if anything the MPH is a little low (but no more than 2-3 MPH). So the dyno is more certainly not reading low, it's right on the money IMO. If you had a passenger/full tank of fuel then that explains why your MPH is a bit down so don't worry about it. Forget the drag calcs, they dont take into account diffs/gearing and other things. I've never found them to be accurate for GT-Rs As for your parts list the potential problems would be 1. 3" de-cat 2. the apparent 3.5" exhaust. Most jap exhausts have a inbuilt restrictor in them near a muffler to help reduce noise, so they are not a true 3.5". People have found them taper down to 2.75" in some occassions which is a major issue 3. Intercooler might be a problem... A stock GTR intercooler is fine for 400rwkw so not really sure why you'd go to a potentially inferior item Your Airbox should be fine, the plenum is more than fine (good for 400rwkw+) so probably start at the exhaust side which is where most issues usually come from. -
Actually I would be worried. Reason being if you get a few reports then the EPA will haul your ass in for a full inspection. It's actually WORSE than the Police reporting you for noise... As ANYONE can report a smokey vehicle without any evidence what so ever. So Nick - If you do have a disgruntled neighbour I suggest you start planning some kind of counter attack or blackmail if you can work out who But on a more serious note, take it super super easy around your area. You don't want them reporting you a few more times, or for that matter getting other residents in on the act because if you get reports from multi-sources that obviously makes the EPA more trigger happy rather than one retarded tree hugging hippy I report smokey vehicles all the time, the utter rust bucket ones (90-96 Magna's are the worst). That way it gives the EPA some actual real policing to do.

2860-5S Vs T04Z 1/4Mile Times
R31Nismoid replied to sickr33's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
This... 19/20psi should be showing a good 30rwkw more. 123mph is roughly 320rwkw in a R32 GTR so your dyno reading is right, but for the amount of boost it's pretty poor. 320rwkw is -9 power @ 20psi, not -5s @ 20psi. -5s should be closer to 127-130mph (370-400rwkw) on 20-24psi Fix the setup before changing it is always a good rule of thumb. -
Yep Racepace were using PWR, but then sourced their own which is just as good as a significantly lower price point. Performance is the same (email them for more info: [email protected]) The 31 had a Race Radiators (Melb mob). Was a R33 unit as i purchased off a mate - so not really talking apples/apples here as it was 7-8 years ago and i don't own the GTS-R anymore so I'd only be guessing what core. I can tell you it had the R33 shroud and clutch fan, and it was cross flow (just cant remember the cores). The shroud was slightly trimmed but nothing major really. 31 item might well fit as well with the same trimming.

Need Help With My New Turbo Upgrades!
R31Nismoid replied to Creyfish2003's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
You can't tune a Veilslide ECU unless it's a daughterboard type IIRC... And no, it will not run with different injectors, AFM. You also do not need an aftermarket fuel reg, so sell it and use the factory one which does the job fine. -
Need Help With My New Turbo Upgrades!
R31Nismoid replied to Creyfish2003's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
You'll need a tune... The Jap ECU you have won't be tuned for a different turbo I wouldn't think. You'll need the AFM that the ECU expects - either way the ECU you have is a waste of time largely so you'd be better off just getting a proper ECU and getting a tune that way with all your bits. -
Oh also now c/ship is done... Overall c/ship being processed?

2860-5S Vs T04Z 1/4Mile Times
R31Nismoid replied to sickr33's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Too many variables really, especially between R32 and R34 given weight and 4WD differences. Either way a T04Z equipped should be faster, they make more power on a sorted setup. -

One thread is enough - stop making new ones each time. -
I tried two brand new standard Nissan R33 ones in my GTS-R years ago, and on a cool day (under 15) it wouldn't go above 72, hovered around 70 usually Two of them couldn't possibly be stuck (or the 3rd which it started with). So some certainly can run under 75 - either that or the sensor was out
-
It shouldn't cost you any more than $60-$100 to have the mounts modified by a reasonable fabricator. I had a Race Radiators (they are in Melb) item for a R33 modded to fit my GTS-R back 7-8 years ago and it wasn't really an issue, quick/easy. So buy the Racepace one, have modified, pocket the difference and spend on other things

Beware "all Imports Aus / Sports Auto Group
R31Nismoid replied to Imperial79's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Already a thread about this - post in there. And always pays to have a car PROPERLY CHECKED OUT, to do so when spending such amounts is just dumb. -
E85 Subforum
R31Nismoid replied to boxheadmr's topic in Site discussion - including Ideas/Feedback & Bugs
It really does not need it's own section. Look how dead the RB30 section is by way of example. Given the amount of options/configuration and issues when setting up an entire motor... Just a fuel, no point splitting off. -
460rwhp is a walk in the park for a R33 gearbox in good condition and properly driven/used. A R34 GETRAG conversion will cost you at a minimum $7,000 2x Diffs - $1000 1x Gearbox - $3500-$5000 Labour (front diff is basically motor out) / oil / misc parts - $1200-$2,000 You can keep your factory diff ratio but that does alter the speedo massively and 1st/2nd also becomes quite short as a result, so for a daily it can be a pain.
