R34 Gtr Intercooler Performance/efficiency
R31Nismoid replied to PSI-FED's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well that's nothing to do with the cooler really - just shows how good the GTR core really is if you screwed in 6psi for only 20rwkw after you went to a 100mm item, which is pretty average really (only 20rwkw for 6psi). You'd sooner back off the 6psi and live with 20rwkw less and enjoy the much safer setup. -
After 6 laps even most med/soft semi's would be past their use by? Same for brakes? 6 laps @ Winton on a warm day is pretty good regardless but depends what you are doing with the car i guess. Would depend Troy said - how modified is the motor? Sounds like it might need a better radiator perhaps (and as others have said, what is the oil temp?) I could get a solid 6-7mins out of my GTR with 360rwkw and a tri-pass radiator before water got to a point it was a problem (100degrees) on a 28 degree day. Obviously had a big oil cooler, ducting and that type of thing to boot. Oil would be right on 100 then as well usually. It was either oil or water getting too hot to pull the pin - I wouldn't keep running one to spite the other so if water was 100, but oil only 100 - I'd come in anyway rather than keep going rather than go that extra min/two type of thing.

So June to Dec is the before/after pics? (looks like more than 14% BF?) Mighty impressive, but then he already had the base built to trim. Very well done regardless if that is indeed 6 months.

Poor Turbo Selection - Need Help Brainstorming
R31Nismoid replied to GTScotT's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
.63 housings on RB25s have never been a great idea, it would depend on how the motor you have is flowing. Sounds like it's basically coming onto boost as soon as you've left the clutch out, 7psi free-revving... Certainly housing is too small or the cam timing is really out of whack as another idea. 150rwkw @ 18psi from a GT30 isn't tidy, it's terrible IMO. Should be 250rwkw give/take. Side point, given its 5 years old, you sure it's a 3076 and not a 3040? They were a bit of a mismatch and with a .63 rear would be REALLY strangled given they had an even larger comp wheel than a 3076 -
Closed. There is a right and wrong way to do this. Guess what you chose?

Opinions Regarding Garett 2860 -5S On An Rb26
R31Nismoid replied to R33-RB26DETT's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
search drivetrain section - all in there. They are identical. If the graph you linked didn't end @ 7400rpm, you'd see torque fall off even harder than it already has. Boost would be the same as well. Yeah sure more RPM it might make a little bit more power (10kw), but the turbos are pretty much off the efficiency, falling harder and harder off from boost/torque the more RPM you ask - so you gain nothing by taking it past there. Better off to change gear and fall back into the 6000rpm area. My comment about it being "all over" by 7500rpm is that both boost and torque have well and truly fallen off by then. Where -5s will keep pressing till 8500rpm on a 2.6 no problem which is a solid 1000rpm more and they aren't falling over. -
Advice For 'stock' 30Dett Turbo And Ecu Choice Please!
R31Nismoid replied to pintaline's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
They are cheap for a reason. They are 1980s old laggy tech. Turbos are the most important selection really, cut corners there you'll regret it everytime you drive it -
and drunk ALL day tomorrow *like*

That's the same thing essentially - you've just had your car stolen mind you, so you have no car to chase them in... Plus finding "them" and getting all vigilante on their asses, that's just silly. Same with not going to the Police. Joyriders will joyride and dump, it'll be found (likely in disarray), so wouldn't be worrying there. Organised crime you'll never find it unless they want you too. I love my SS, but at the same time i do realise it's still just a shitbox and worth only marginally more than a 33-t - I don't care about people calling it how it is
-
So think logically - that's what insurance is for. If someone wants to steal your car, they will. GPS tracking won't mean a thing once they get it - thrash it and probably ding the car anyway. You'll still come back to insurance and all GPS will do it tell you where you can find the crashed/burnt/stripped shell (for a joyrider). If it's organised then it's a waste of time as it's 100% gonna get stripped. You need to look at alarms as an effective way it so DELAY them from stealing. Nothing is 100% fool proof, but a $100 alarm installed exceptionally well will force whoever is stealing it to take time to work around it. Time is your friend in any burglary both car and house. Of course companies won't tell you this and say you need to spend $$$$$$$$$. Make the thief take as much time as you can, if it gets longer than 2-3mins you'll find they will simply give up as it's now into the risk zone. That way all you probably need to deal with is a broken window/lock, ignition barrell and some interior things. Far less than if the car was started, driven and then who knows what (which a GPS is never going to prevent). Call me crazy and what not but never have any of my cars been stolen, and believe you me people have tried. Used to park at a station for 2 years, at least 5 attempts IIRC. But each time all I came back to was essentially minor damage and my pride and joy was still there. Tad worse for wear, but still in one complete and unthrashed.

Do you know a Mobile Jammer costs about $150? Any semi organised theif is well on top of that
-
No real need, plus on a R33 GTS-t, which is really not worth much... An alarm is only as good as the bloke installing it. Installed PROPERLY - your car will need to be taken via a flatbed, and I'm not joking. People think spending $800 on an alarm will make it harder to steal. Installed just basically, it's easier to steal than if I used a couple of $5 switchs from Jaycar installed and hidden well. You'd effectively need to rewire the ignition to the engine bay car to get it to start. Pay less for the alarm, more for the install - you'll be far better off.

Rb26 Intake Plenum/manifold Onto Rb25

Thread closed. Believe it or not, but since SAU started more than 7 years ago, this topic has been discussed before. Please use the search function in future. To a point - I will disagree with ya on this one. A mate of mine was very sizeable (110kg, 10-12% BF). He lost a good 15kg's and his BJJ increased dramatically as he was just "too big" for his body size even @ 6ft 2in. Couldn't get the range of movement etc. Certainly his strength helps him, but trimming down (and thus dropping some of that strength) to gain some endurance made a world of difference. Obviously a tad off topic given he isn't a novice to training or anything like that and found the gains by doing Good overall thread otherwise for some late night reading

Alarm/Immob Tony? Who did the install?

Best Street Tyres
R31Nismoid replied to Phatboy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ye if you are eating tyres then definately (although he has a 34R, so not much of a problem ) Side note: also look @ the Achillies as another option if you are a RWD tyre eater. I'm hearing quite good things from a few people on the price vs performance scale. If i had a GTR I'd get a set to give them a run, Inverse Tyres in Vic are doing them ridiculously cheap at the moment. -
Be prepared to pay $$ then as HEL i didnt think did custom colours in their bulk pricing kits. +1 Although that said I had custom ones and got anodized purple fittings and other funky shit. Didn't cost anything extra so it was free rice technically and that is OK in my book

You can't get a CAMS license without being part of a CAMS club - so it's a case of you can't have one, without the other Just being a SAU user (not club member), gets you nowhere unless you are part of another CAMS club and get license that way.
