  1. True, but extremely uncommon on Sumitomo calipers. Still check them though, especially if your car is showing any signs of corrosion, ie, it came from the snowy/salted area of Japland.

  4. So many options. 1. Boiled fluid at some stage, causing air in the lines? 2. Glazed discs? 3. Glazed rotors? 4. Does it have pads left? 5. Old fluid soaked with water? 6. Internally leaking master cylinder? If it really didn't come to a complete stop as you said, well, get it checked ASAP! You'll have to catch it first though..... Is it still out there rolling along by itself somewhere?

  7. Very interesting! The uphill braking zone on the straght with kill overtaing moved there though, but my Lordy son of rajab they'll be going in deep! Beer Baron loves it deep I heard ...... who woulda thunk it?

  10. baron, the POV you have in your dirty little hands holds 2Gb cards. We found that was ample for half a day's rallying, simple change at lunchtime. IMO, the POV's have pretty average sound quality without an external mic. We found the best result was gained in using a powered aftermartket mic, about $80- from memory. Just keep it out of the wind, tucked out of the way under the dash is a ripper spot. When rallying we have it on Tim's seat near his mouth, that was we can here him, and the car. I think just hear voices when plugged into the headsets get a little boring. And yes, I've been a nav too, and difficult to use camera systems just are not worth it. Cameras can probably one of the greatest stress raisers within the car, and a remote starting one such as POV or this new RADcam make life easy! When the navvie zero's his trip meter as the start, he turns the camera on too. Piece of piss

  14. I mounted mine up high on the left of the binnacle. Just srewed it into the dash pad They're visible with only eye movement, as opposed to the factory 3-gauge position which is a waste of time, it's a head twist to see them, and trust me, you'll have a bit on. I'd recommend two large water temp and boost gauges (both with audible and visible warnings), and just a bright red light for oil pressure. (Even boost could really just be the warnings, but mine often went overboost and I liked the gauge to see how far over, ie, if it was worth backing off. It never was )

  16. Haha, I did notice that Amazing the turn around I've had personally toward Vetool. Beginning of the season I was talking him up, loved the smile on his face, now I just wanna wipe it off for him. And going back to your guy's earlier discussion, I too think the tracks are far too forgiving these days. But unfortunately, we can never go back to the days of ripping wheels off whenever they made a mistake (except Monaco, it somehow gets a sabatical). Although the "Supertrack" rot had begun to set in prior, I think Senna's death was the turning point to a concerted effort to make the tracks safer to the point of boredom.
  17. I watched it again last night and a couple of things really burned into my brain. 1. Lewis really did deserve the win (I know Mark was unlucky with his clutch issues at the formation/start). I know he was lucky with the gravel trap, but he stayed calm, and eased it through and out. Nice work. Many others would have panicked before leaving the track and made a bad situation much worse. 2. Mark really has a look these days, a look that he knows he can do it. Just watching him during the post race question time while Lewis was talking I think he's never been more on top of his game. 3. Kubica really has a rotten pill on him. 4. Lewis is doing a good job of endearing himself to me for the first time I can recall. Is he maturing, or just being more honest? Or does he just have me bluffed?

  20. I'll proudly stand up here and say my car has only Fulcrum eccentric bushes in the front and rear upper arms and castor rods That's legal for the rallies I do, and cheap! I'm also a tight arse I'd rather spend the money on fuel and rubber to practice. I figure it's easier to teach me to drive it quicker than spend time and money on arms. Kaido, my suggestion is do the minimum required to get it track reliable, and feel the car out, making changes only if you think there will be a tangiable improvement. I don't see much point in throwing a catalogue at it and endlessly chasing the right heights and settings. Advised settings differ from everyone around the country. I've lost track of the PMs I've received asking for my basic settings, only to be told I'm blatantly wrong! Lol

Both the 34's I've been in felt very uncomfortable with cage intrusion around the head, and I remember thinking "how the fark can I drive this!?", but I found once the timer said go, I'd forgotten all about it and never once noticed the intrusion, just like Warps says. As for weight of the interior Nick, I don't know for sure, but stripping weight is king. As Snowy has found (like we did with our blue 34 from 2006), it's nice to keep the "interior" and appear as though you're not trying too hard, but it does cost speed, but most importantly, it costs you in the most important area, braking performance. Eg; Even if it made, say, a 3% difference (say, 3 metres?) to your braking lengths, extrapolate that over 500 competetive kilometres, with say four corners per kay, that means you're not on the brakes for six whole kilometres..... substantial (do I have the sums right?).
  23. Normally the whine is poorly setup diff, entailing shimming and lapped pinion/ring gear. Remembering most of our diffs are 20 years old now, and may have been upgraded with differing LSD centres etc, but seldom do most of us actually completely rebuild and setup the diff. The 34 N1 we had was very noisy, and unfortunaly required a complete replacement pinion and ring gear, which was many thousands as to my suprise the N1 diff had subtle variations, but what they were I can't remember now.
  24. Nick, I'd strip the interior mate. We're not talking about a rose-jointed and straight-cut gearbox car here, it's a completely rubber bushed road car with a road car gearbox, so even completely stripped of sound deadening, they're still quite habitable. Pay attention to getting rid of the typical Skyline diff whine though, that is one thing that can become annoying and tiring on long transport sections. I'm sure my nav Tim and the other Skyline runners would concurr that the benefits (it's faster and easier stop too!) of lightening your car will far outweight the negatives, and agree that they are still really quite nice, especially if you have two small speakers and an iPod for tunes (I prefer the sweet, sweet tones of RB20 for six days though )
