At first was not so happy with the change to V8 but looking at the V8 cars that the teams are coming up with, damn they look nice. Smaller, shorter, more sleek and all those aero details. Seems to have more flowing lines than the V10 cars ever had.

been to some GP,s in europe more than once-Italian GP(Monza) 2001,2002,2003, been to Monte Carlo GP 2003,Melbourne 2001,2002,Japanese GP 2003 The racing as far as racing goes is non existant-the cars are amazing technically-but really if there is no racing whats the point. NASCAR shits all over F1 and yes Ive been to them too

EDIT-forgot to mention been to Minardi private test session in Italy (mugello)in 2003 also

Oh and also Chris Dwyer was an engineer for a mate of mine years ago in Formula Holden in Oz-so also did a tour of the Ferrari Galleria with him in 2003

well i've never been to any GP in europe, but all the ones i've been to in aus were great. yes there is more overtaking in other classes, but even just the sound of an F1 car coming past is worth the ticket price for me. and i wouldn't say the racing is non-existent.

Never been to a nascar race either, though i watch it on fox. i must say it has it's interest but in my mind is nowhere near F1.

I just hope you didnt tell chris dyer and the folk at the minardi test you went to that you think F1 is a bore and pointless. lol they may not take it in good humour!

bunch of overpaid drivers going round and round refusing to pass each other in case they scratch their million dollar machines....yawn

I agree, as far as racing goes even v8 supercars are better and thats no recommendation.

but hey there is only so much motorsport in the world, I have to watch as much as I can.

NASCAR tho....ughhh....plenty of overtaking sure but very boring racing.....fast left corners after fast left corners have never done it for me. But congrats on them for the commercial side of the sport it is easily the most successful category commercially

Fair enough...but you sur seem to have been to a lot of csotly yawn events

F1 isnt about the racing...its the whoel circus :)

Have been lucky-I lived over there for some time and worked in motorsport. Also have done MOTEC data aq for some V8 supercar teams in Qld. Currently manage (and live in )a workshop for a V8 development team.

You are spot on about the circus and look there is something amazing about watching an F1 car going through Eau Rouge at Spa-and like I stated before the cars are a technical masterpiece (Ive been lucky to get very close inspections of them at test days and even look at data traces etc)-but there is not dispute the actual racing on the track is at best a procession for 80% of the season. British F3 or Euro F3 now these are an open wheel series where racing is NO. 1 and the passing each lap is unbelievable cause these guys want to get to F1 so will have a go!! -and the cars are far more even with same chassis, engines etc-something F1 needs to look at-it all comes down to set up ,driver skill, pit stops, strategy then not who has the biggest wind tunnel

and if you havnt been to a NASCAR event then its hard to know what it feels like to be at a real RACE meeting

And yep it is average on TV-it a motorsport where you have to be there.

i got a two sound bytes of a V10 fly by then a V8 flyby and they do sound similar but u can pick one from the other... i'd post it up but i dont no how

V10 flyby still gets me slightly wet every time i hear it :)

AMEN!

i'll never forget the 1st time i heard and saw and F1 car race past me between turns 2 and 3 at Albert Park. i tingled all over....

i just hope they dont end up sounding like Champ cars......

From what contacts of mine in Europe have told me the V8's are revving higher than the V10 already and sound great(not like a V8 at all) By end of this season they wont be far behind the lap times of the V10 last year.

Ill never forget the first time I heard a Ferrari 3.5L V12 at Fiorano in 97-nothing compares to that sound!!!!

Thats whats got me upset, i havent ever been to f1 and really wanted to hear the v10s at 17,000rpm 300km/h plus for the first time.. but now ill never get to hear it unless they bring them back

Its just silly, they used v10s and that power level for ages, yeah some problems, but obviously over time there will be some with safety weather they are using a 1000hp v10 or a corolla engine.

And driver safety? I never heard any of the drivers complain they were getting hurt by the v10s power, if anything, the drivers are always wanting more power. They are athletes that train specifically for the forces of racing high g high horsepower cars.

Im still a fan, but a watered down fan from the v10-v8 transition thats for sure

After seeing the full warm up and rev video along with renault getting the v10 to 'rev' the we are champions song after winning last year.. i will never have anything but pure love for that engine and the V8s will have to do a hell of alot to impress me now.

20,000rpm so what, rather 18,000rpm with 2 extra cylinders

they have to rev harder to make up for the power loss they recieved through smaller capacity engines. the Cosworth is kicking ass apparently... over 21,000 rpm

theres a list in the latest F1 mag with all the estimated power figures... worth a read i reckon

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
