Heya all,

I've browsed the 'for sale' section of this site for ages now, and notice that a LOT of replies are nothing other than ones asking for pics of items listed for sale.

So what I propose, to save a LOT of time and space, is that people cannot post an item for sale unless at least 1 pic of that item is attached to the topic. Where multiple items are for sale, a separate photo has to be provided for each item.

It might take a lot longer for people to arrange, but in any event, they normally say that people who want pics should PM the seller, so they obviously have pics ready to go anyway.

I think this would stop dodgy sellers, reduce unnecessary replies, and speed things up generally.

So get behind me on this, and let's make skylinesaustralia.com an even better place to be.

I do and I don't agree with this. Some items really don't need a photo e.g. I have a stock set of R33 wheels with no rubber, good condition. Come on we all know what they look like however in a situation such as "I have 7 RB28s with T88 34d setups for sale only $1500ea" a photo may really add a little validity to the ad. However we must also acknowledge that some please genuinely don't have access to a digital camera or scanner.

I do really think that we need a user rating/feed system again.

Yeah, I know what you're saying about stock items really not needing photos, but even then, you want to see what condition the items are in, or just see it for curiosity's sake.

That way, if it turns up in any condition other than what you expected, you've got at least SOME right to argue.

Whereas if you never saw it, how did you know what condition it was in to begin with?

Anyway, I still think it's a good idea.

Hi Adrian,

Great idea in principle, and it would be nice to see everything in hi res jpeg detail !.....but everyone knows what a z32 afm look like (google it if you don't) and who wants to see what a standard exhaust manifold looks like. Unfortunately a lot of the forum users are dreamers having a little "personal time with themselves" and wanting pics too look at to fill in time. Sure their comments of "Good luck! I wish I could afford it" give you a free bump, but that's the type of bandwidth waste we want to cut out!. The great thing with the internet is the size of the market you can get too! but you also must deal with the unwanted extra white noise that comes with the www. Unfortunately, to buy and sell in this funky area we call the forums.... you have to be a little bit tough, deal with the dickheads and losers and even take a chance or two, because every now and then, you just might do business with a the core group of "realistic" enthusiasts that love these cars and engines.

Anyone else got some idea's or constuctive comments?

In that case, where pictures are not provided, at least a link should be provided to an example of the item, perhaps that the seller found via a google search.

It's just that I've noticed on most every 'for sale' topic where pics have not been posted, you find a dozen or so people all asking for the pics. It seems to take up a lot of unnecessary forum space is all. Then again, perhaps providing pics for every item sold may take up more room.

Maybe you could provide some sort of indicator as to when the item is sold, then remove the attachments from the topic. I dunno, just brain-storming.

good suggestions, but don't underestimate the technical prowess of some users. Some people don't know how to use a digital camera, or how to resize pictures, or to save them as JPG etc. Hell, I've even come across people who don't know what google is.

A simpler answer would be to restrict FS thread replies to the OP only (+admins/mods, of course). That would get rid of a lot of the pic requests and unnecessary posts, but still allow the OP to bump his/her own thread. Pic and extra info requests could be sent to the OP directly via PM or e-mail.

Instead consider this scenario:

User posts up "R33 GTS4 For Sale"

n00b asks "is it a turbo?" on public thread

user says "no, all R33 GTS4's were N/A"

no further n00bs will ask the question again.

Just had another thought after reading people's for sale topics. A lot more time gets wasted asking people where they're located.

Now, pictures and internet space aside, it doesn't cost much to type "Location: VIC" or wherever, and it stops a lot more unneccessary replies.

Maybe seller's don't say where they are or post pics so that they get free bumps? Sounds about right.

If it doesn't have sufficient basic info in the add it should be deleted, end of story, and that's also what should happen now. Sorry, but if you want to make the sale, put in the time or you aren't serious.

There are some forums that already have implimented what I've suggested and it seems to work well. Saves the mods a lot of time and once the sellers know the rules, there are few complaints.

Edit: as for your example....are you seriously suggesting that something along those lines doesn't happen every day on these forums anyway ?? But if a Q is asked in a general forum to a seller about their FS ad, that thread should be deleted (as it should be under the current guidelines) AND the sellers thread should be deleted.......simple. On top of that the respective members should be warned.

i dont think pics should be mandatory. if someone dont have pics. they dont have pics. simple.

and johnny, location is a requested field.

i tihnk the return of the trader rating is the only thing lacking from the for sale section. other than that it's run nice and smoothly by mods.

The man in black is right, all this pics to blah blah is a pain in the arse.

Also "where are you located" should be up front.

If you are thinking of buying a $20 part, you don't want to find out that it is in Canada or something. On the otherhand, if asking price is $2,000 I would certainly want to see some good pics of it.

Pics being mandatory - wont happen, its not feasible in many ways.

A seller only dis-advantages themselves, and some threads dont require pics at all.

Location - No purpose, and i dare say removed eventually again.

People fill it out with "cloud 9" or whatever they want.

Hence why the location is on the actual For Sale form you fill out... the form currently isnt there due to the Upgrading of the Forums at the moment, but im sure it will return soon.

Location is unimportant, where the seller wants to sell to is more important, don't know how many adds I've seen where the seller states that the buyer must pick up, and he's in Sydney and your in Perth.

I'm not totally convinced of the worth of the trader ratings system. Like any other ratings system it's dependent upon both parties being honest.

We had situations before where someone posted neg ratings, and in retaliation so did the other person. So you're left with two annoyed people, both are complaining and have two different stories.

Pretty much like the ebay feedback. Can be used and abused.

Well, I don't care for a rating system either. I don't trust it, much like eBay.

As for pics, I've got the exact problem now where I'm waiting on pics from about 5 guys on the forums with stuff for sale.

And I DEFINITELY think location should be mandatory. To say it doesn't matter when you're dealing with items like exhaust systems and sets of wheels is insane. Either you guys have no concept of postage costs, or you sell / smoke drugs.
