well... back in the day when i was 16 turning 17, my parents told me if i get impressive marks at school, they will buy me a 10g car for my first

so i think offering some sort of incentive might work, i could be wrong though, and it wont work on everyone :( i was just so desperate for a car, and back then i didnt have much knowledge so for 10g i went and bought a galant vr4 4wd turbo and abused it for a year or 2 :)

edit: would not buy the kids a new car though, something that gets them from A to B is enough until they gain some driving exp.

if i had kids, I would never buy them a new car.

I would just buy them a cheap reliable car, so they can build up their driving experience. If they don't like it then they can work and save for their own choice of car.

My parents bought me my first car, a lowly Daihatsu Applause, did the job however as I learnt manual on it and got my confidence, then a traded up to what I have now and haven't looked back! Still have the Applause in the family however; the girlfriend has it.

I think if I were to have kids, I'd be the same way

my parents bought my first car, the motor and gearbox in my first car, my second car, my third car, and my fourth car, they werent expensive cars, i bought my r33 for 11,000 and all the work thats gone into it i've paid for...

i used to work for my parents so i needed a car to get around. as the business picked up they'd buy me a better car, it was their way of saying thankyou for all of the work i did for them (i practically ran the business).

with my kids i plan on making sure they earn their car. its one less hassle they need to worry about going through their studies. and i dont want them working just to pay a car off. i believe by getting them a car they'll be making a clear choice on their future without things like wanting to buy a car making them choose to leave school and start working before they finish.

I borrowed my parents excel for a couple of years when i first got my liscense, but they never bought me a car of my own. And by borrowed, I mean i paid for all the expenses (except insurance), but they still owned it.

i used my olds vb commo wagon until i bought my car. then i bought another one. so now i have 2 skylines for 1 person haha

id give my kids a run around but make them buy the car they want if they desire it. i never had any hand outs

i reckon if i had a kid id use it as an incentive for his/her final yr12 result. i had no incentives and i spent more time looking for cars and working than i did worrying about school. i bought my car after muckup day before my final exams and by then i got what i wanted and gave pretty much stuff all effort into my exams.

id probably say id match whatever s/he had and pay for rego and insurance. but then id say nothing too fancy as it is their first car.

My parents bought me an R33 GTS when i was 16 and I was allowed to buy my first turbo car as soon as i had turned 17, ever since then my parents have used school/uni as in incentive for me.

If I had the money, i'd buy em a car of their choice. Why be miser if its within your means?

That said, hopefully thats a LONG LONG LONG way away. lol.

depends on the situation. if they've showed some effort into purchasing a car(of their choice), as a parent, i wouldnt mind covering up the remaining amount. if they showed no motivation what-so-ever and expects me to pay for the full cheeseburger, then they can forget about it.

my parents have trained me enough to realise that nothing is free and if u want something, u have to atleast put in some effort.

My parents bought me, my sister and my brother all our first cars. my first car when i turned 17 was a toyota camry.

When that blew up, they bought me my skyline. Now i dont want to sound obnoxious but if your parents have the money and they choose to buy you a car it is their decision how they wish to spend it.

Personally i have no problems with parents buying children their cars and i will buy my children cars when it is their turn.

Obviously its each to their own and i dont have a problem either way.

my parents bought me my r33 which i still have today, they have helped me with some mods to the car... i didnt even know i was getting it, just opened up the garage door on my 18th and saw a stock r33 gts-t sittin there... the look on my face absolutley made their day and i have thanked them everyday for it...unlike some other ppl i know who take all that for granted and forget how they got it...

i would love to buy my kids their 1st cars when i get to that stage, i would never want my 15/16/17y/o etc workin their ass off (althouth they would be working with me) just to pay off their car that would take 20 years, sure its great if they help etc but i'd want my kids driving something pretty decent so at 17y/o theres not much that most could afford on their own

each to their own i guess but i have no worries with the kids that respect their parents, the ones that take it for granted are the ones that annoy me

I would... but only a cheap runabout like an old Laser or Corolla or soemthing (under 5K)

and they would have to pay for their own petrol/insurance/rego etc..

alot of my friends got given cheap cars in yr 11/12... i don't see any problem with helping out your kids if you can, as long as they appreciate it.

I almost had my parents on the edge of buying me a 200rwkw S14a 200sx as a first car, unforatunatly, it was sold before i got back to em.

Things progressed and in the end, i bought myself a stagea. Once i told my parents i wanted to manual convert, they said "f**k, we should have just taken our friends advice and bought you a WRX"

Meh... im happy with my car :(

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
