I'm currently tossing up between a Viper and a Maclaren... I think the 180B will handle better, but the Viper has a lil bit more power. I guess I won't really know until after I take them for test drive. Do you think Toyworld will make me supply my own batteries? :(

Hands down, a Starlet GT turbo! A friend just got one and I love it. The ultimate suburban warrior with subtle mods it eats my skyline and another friends WRX with the added bonus of lightwieght fuel economy!

But If I was in your money bracket, I'd have a deposit on the new BMW Z4 M-Coupe due very soon. Feels like sex to drive and looks like sex from the side walk! They'll beg you for a lift.

Mmmmm z4 coupe. Never seen one though have driven a z4 litre convertible. great car. can't and don't think I could justify the money.

At the most I was going to spend $50 large so the Merc c200 was going to be second hand.

Is the 35 skyline coupe a V35 or Q35. I personally rate them very highly. I saw a lot when in Canada and think the look great, alot better in the flesh than in photos. Do you think they will soon get the same reputation as the rest of the Skyline range?

Um looking at selling my r33 and getting a Ford BA XR6 turbo, they are a decent car and also has plenty of room for shopping etc. i also want something a play around car that i can still mod etc and ive been thinking about a gt starlet.

Hey all,

Just wondering what everyone plans on buying next. I now have a R33 GTS25T. I have loved owning it and may own it for a little while to come.

I am thinking ahead to my next purchase. Now that I am 27 and have a job where I need to mix with extremely wealthy people I'm not sure I can continue to hold own an import. Mainly because of the poor image it has. I'm not saying the common view is right, it just will work against me.

If image didn't come into it then I would like a heavily modified R33 GTR that looks almost stock.

I am thinking second hand C200. Maybe a 2003 model. A little luxury, high quality. Not too many thrills though.

My other thought is to buy a Q35 Skyline Coupe. At the moment there aren't to many and most people don't associate them with the import scene. On this note do you think alot more will come in soon and the price come down?

I'm not trying to sound like a snob or offend anyone it's just a reality for me to succeed.

What does everyone else plan on buying for their next car? Another skyline or a bigger car because you now have a family or.............?

Cheers

I have just bought my first car which is a 91 Skyline R32, which I consider is a good deal seeing that I am an American who is now Japan and never would of expect to get a car like this. I love this car. It is all stock right now except for the sound system. I plan to work on it myself. I think the next car I will get will be a Suberu WRX 8.

I'm not a huge fan of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I much prefer the DB9. (And this comes from my vast experience in Aston Martin ownership :S:P). I think the problem is I loved the old V8 Vantages so much, it was impossible to live up to my expectations!

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Le Mans - 600hp and 2 tonnes! Now THAT'S an ASTON!!!

totaly agree, GT starlets are awsome... will be my next car i think, good on the juice, and a weapon when you want. also consider a XR6t, wrx or a R34 GT-T......

but that heavily modded GTR dose sound nice....

next car, raelistically will be a 4 door, 4 banger turby AWD prolly, depending on the cash I have to spend will either be a evo or wrx depending on how much $$$$ I have to spend, wr, (02 sti +) or (03 wrx +) or (evo 6+)

this would fit with the ferrying capabitlities and my need for a car that can steer

preferably oversteer and not understeer as It is that much easier to manage provided a great limo diff

the need for petrol efficieny when paying a home loan and kids etc, thinking the 4 banger turb should be better in daily than my 6t mileage wise but never driving one, guess ill do that before i go to buy, still got a few years of just me an the misses to waste money on my t

im lookin at an 00 STI, need something to cart the mates around in but im addicted to boost now so it has to be turbo. anyone got some unique ideas?

Unique turbo car to cart the mates around in? Something in the spirit of an STi? Well here's my out of the blue random suggestion of the day!

How about something like an old Audi S2? Basically has the engine and drivetrain of the old Audi Quattro rally car, and mechanically identical to the much heavier Audi S4 of the same era. Look good when kitted up too. Less than 100 were imported into Australia. You get 6 speed manual; 2.2 litre 20 valve 5-cylinder turbocharged (2226 cc); BHP/kW230 hp/169 kW; Torque:253 lb-ft @ 1950 rpm; 0-100 kph:5.90 secs; Quattro 4WD system; Top speed:242 kph

There's even one for sale on CarSales.com.au

    • As I've said elsewhere, I am using the stock intercooler piping path in the engine bay, and a return flow cooler, and making ~250 rwkW (without any effort put into trying to turn it up past there just yet) and expect to be able to make some more, and frankly, I would be perfectly happy with 260-270rwKW. This is peak road Skyline usability territory. You go past there and, sure, the car will snap necks more when it's on boost, but it will also break shit all the time, cost a (even larger) fortune in tyres, etc etc. Anyway, I also do not like the over-the-fan pipe path, and you don't have to do it.
    • I see, honestly I’m not too fussed about the looks. The only reason to go plenum is to make the piping easier instead of the classic over the rad etc.
    • Not easy to quantify wrt something like how many fractions of a second slower it would be over 0-100. But given that a 250-300rwkW car is able to do that launch sprint in 5-6 sec (and faster with appropriate tyres, and surface)..... giving up as much as a second would feel like torture. A ~450HP capable turbo is not going to make lots of boost in the 2000-3000 rpm range. So, whilst with some boost on hand it will be faster accelerating in that rev range than your engine currently is NA, it will not feel like a fast car until the boost is solidly in. You know what your car feels like right now when you open it up at 2000rpm. if you've ever been in an actual fast car, you will appreciate that the NARB25 is.... not exciting. Well, add some boost and it will be better. But shorten the intake runners and it might not be better at all. It might come out better, but it could end up feeling the same. For me, it's not the 0-X km/h sprints that matter. It is easy to fry the tyres with anything over 200 rwkW. You can't use all the power available in 1st and 2nd anyway, you have to modulate the throttle. What matters is how the car reacts when you're driving in traffic in 4th or 5th and have maybe 2000 rpm on board, and you want/need to add some speed quickly, and don't have time for the downshift. It won't make boost, it will be all NA (at the speeds we're talking about - remember how fast you're going at 2000 in 4th! and don't plan on breaking the limit by too much.) So giving away NA torque is not what I would consider practical for a street car. And retaining that NA torque builds boost faster which makes the car faster. The flashy plenum is not actually better, unless you're looking at a track car where you can keep it on the boil all the time.
    • So how much difference does it make you think? Like 1 second in the 0-100?  I was have smaller turbo so hopefully that spools quick GTX2871.  currently it’s NA so you can imagine pretty slow, but I do want fast accusation a little as there’s not many places I’ll be driving where I go over 80 even near me. So 0-60 and 0-80 targets
