Mine is still on the docks in Japan, I paid for it on the 10th October, hopefully hear something next week :)

Imported it through J-Spec (as you can probably tell from second pic'). Ben's been great to deal with, so far all good, been fun even... but now the waiting... killing time being artsy-fartsy.

Decided to give M35s a miss - just because there is no real amount of aftermarket support for them, and such little knowledge, and the fact that if anything goes wrong no mechanic is going to have experience with the engine at all.

Hunting for an S2 Manual, now. Not easy to find in good nic.

Im going to give prestige a call and see what they come up with. Ive found a few cars that im interested in, just a matter of which one is best for its money.

i've been around for a while just haven't posted in this thread yet...

Ive been chatting to ben as well - seems very helpful and knowledgeable too. Except i think he's getting sick of how picky i am haha

Lol sounds a bit like my communication with him (something along the lines of "I've looked at hundreds of stageas" and "you're killing me! :D") I was pretty picky and I had paid a service fee to another place at the time so he was doing a lot of searching for me without any guarantee of compensation. But in the end I didn't really find a single suitable car at auctions (after searching for over 2 months) and J-Spec had or found about half a dozen in the few weeks after I contacted them, of which 2 or 3 were really good. So I went with one from Ben and the L & C estimate was about 4 or 5 grand less than what I was prepared to pay at auction. Car should hopefully be on a boat in about a week and I will eventually find out how well it worked out...

For the record, I sent my first (email) contact to j-spec on the 28th August, and I had found the car I wanted and paid the j-spec service fee on the 27th September... just under a month. Pretty happy all up. Had spent about 2 years researching Stageas though and watching this forum.

Btw I gave up on the M35 for the same reason as you mention; j-spec had one on their site for a while for $14,000 though which was damn tempting!

Here is the plate...

It is a E-WGNC34 so it is a Series I

Model TGKNRXAC34UDA--AA- so how do I know if it a 25t X Four or what ever.

On this site http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/stagea/1997_11/ It doesnt list a turbo model

previous page http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/stagea/1997_8/ has 3 turbo mdels 25t RS FOUR, 25t RS FOUR V, 25t X FOUR.

I am lost to work that out.

What is the 5S5 J onthe plate mean?

I understand the gearbox and RC40 would be diff ratio.

post-43655-1194472237_thumb.jpg

It is a 01/98 and that is confirmed with the original purchase paperwork left in the glove box when it was purchsed in Japan.

If anyone can help me out that would be great. Would be good to know what it is other than a Stagea.

Welllll I'm no expert at FAST but here's what I've found:

- your model number checks out with FAST (TGKNRXAC34UDA--AA-), good...

- production year is Jan '98

- engine is RB25DET (so, turbo)

- auto

- 4WD

- model code is '25TXF' (not sure as to what exactly this entails, perhaps someone else better informed than me could comment on this...)

btw, the '5S5 J' is your paint colour code and interior colour code... FAST has your exterior paint colour as '5S5' and interior as 'J' which checks out.

btw, of the options you list, these:

- sunroofs

- SatNav

- woodgrain dash

- 4WD

are non-standard options. The rest I am pretty sure were standard on _all_ stageas (yes even the climate control, though in a single-DIN unit not always the fancy LCD screen). Much more info' on all this in other threads around here, have a look/search...

hope that helps,

daveb

Dave,

Thanks for looking at this for me... what is FAST?

Would '25TXF' be 25t X FOUR as on this site http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/s...a/1997_8/21852/

Thanks again

Antony

No worries Antony. FAST is PC software which the Nissan dealers etc. use - basically like an electronic manual and more, it's many CD's worth (4 or 5 for just the Aus cars I think), and has all the information on model spec's by VIN number as they left the factory, as well as parts diagrams/codes etc. etc. lots of stuff... more about it on these forums somewhere (this is a little OT). Just google nissan fast you'll find heaps about it.

That link is for '97 models I think... perhaps here: http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/stagea/1998_8/ or check Prestige Motorsport's car spec's at http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/modules/carSpecs/ I have found them to be quite thorough, although the pages are sometimes broken.

Dave,

Yeah but in 1998 there is no listing for the Series I models and some of the 1997 where as late as August and mine being January '98 it would be most likly a late '97 model.

On http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/stagea/1997_8/ it says "Modifications produced from 1997 (august)" so I assume this covers my stag as the next page quoting the '98 models say from August '98.

Thanks again for looking into this.

I got a copy of FAST and came up with the same 25txf.

Hey Antony, welcome aboard.

If Dave's spec info is correct (I can't get FAST working on my computers, no matter what I've tried), then yours is a factory base-version of the turbo AWD. It would've been produced around halfway through the s1 run, as the s2 was released in August '98, as you've found from the Russian website.

In the model code, WGNC34, the "G" means it was an RB25-engined car (there was also a non-turbo RB25, so this part of the model designation doesn't really specify), and the "N" means it came out with the ATESSA AWD system. In another example, if a Stagea came out as a WHC34, then it would be an RB20DE-powered car (non of which were turbocharged) with RWD only.

(I really should update the first page of the Buyer's Guide, I've learnt and accumulated a lot of info since I first put it up there...)

...yeah I did manage to get FAST to work after getting a few copies from the net. I'll do a write up of where and how when I get mine to display in english properly.

I came up with 25txf as Dave did which I was happy to find out... as I mentioned it doesn't have badges at all and I couldn't find a single feference to what it was till Dave did the FAST trick.

So am I right in saying my machine should be badged 25t X Four?

and having a look around ebay and car sales etc there doesn't seem to be may like mine... lots of RS Fours etc.

Does anyone have a pic of a "25t X Four" badge/decal so I can get one made... or can you buy them? Also I noticed most stag's have a crome "Stagea" badge on the rear tailgate above the passanger tail lamp.. can these be bought?

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm from Melbourne and new to this forum.

Had the Stagea RS4V for a couple of months now.

Took a long time to locate a good one in Japan in Black S2, leather, factory body kit, etc to my specifications.

It is totally original with 90,000 on clock, grade 4B with log books. :P

Yes, Black was never a factory colour offered for the Series 1, although saw a fair few at auction in Japan having been repainted!

The factory Black paint code for the Series 2 on the build plate is GV1.

There seems to be more Black ones coming into the country now.....most are 2WD however and without sunroof, leather, etc and other more desirable options.

    • Nah, they'll do it without a receipt, tell em roughly when it was, that it was cash, youll likely only get store credit, but that gets you some dollars towards the newer better shovel, or other item you need/want later.   Still take it back and have a crack at returning it.
    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
