i noticed one of my coilpacks has the black paint stuff chipping off :D would this contribute to misfire at all???

thanks

no

Are series 2 coils different shape or are they the same , mine has developed this problem....

any photos of a series 2 coil pack would be good thanks.

the pics on page 1 are series 2 coil packs, they are the same shape as series 1.

i got the same problem after fitting the fmic and exhaust. it gets pretty bad on anything over 7psi. im gonna try this and hopefully this will solve it!!!

(it sucks spending all thsi money and not been able to boost it more than 5psi :D)

  • 2 weeks later...

How much time have you guys allowed for the silicone to settle? Did this on my mates skyline last night, yet to put them back in to try...

He also had a white powder on the top of one of his plugs.. would this be related or could the problem be something else making him run lean?

cheers

Is it possible to use an S2 coilpack on an S1? Mine misfires around 4000 - 5000 rpm just a little though. boost is set on 10.5 psi. Not sure how to silicon an S1 coilpack so im thinking maybe use an S2, is this possible?

Ok Ive got splitfires and new connectors and mines still misfiring very slightly on cold nights. Mainly in 3rd but a bit in 2nd as well at around 5000-5500 after and before are fine. Any clues? ive gapped the plugs down to .6 and its an older redtop rb20det. Its gets quite rich about 10:1 once at around 5000rpm

might be running a bit rich. depending on how much boost ur running u might need to tune ur AFR to 12:1

So richness can affect it missing? I plan on getting a SAFC in the future and getting it tuned to 12:1 Its running 11psi on the stock turbo

hey guys, we changed the spark plugs to ngk platinums heat grade 6 with a .9mm gap.

before this it had ngk iridiums heat grade 5 with a 1.1mm gap.

Also took the coils out again, took off all the silicone, put them in a metho bath for 15 minutes, blew them out with an air compressor, then put them in the oven at 80 degrees over night.

Anyway put the car back together and no more misfiring but the car is running like 12psi!!!

Only performance mods to the car are turbo back exhaust with high flow cat, and pod filter..

Just wondering if you guys reckon its just getting a better spark now? hence more boost pressure...(before it was struggling to get to 9psi) or do you think I may not have connected something properly.

so far my mate is loving his car running 12 psi but after he has a bit of fun we are gonna try to find out why because we dont wanna blow anything.

Anyway if you know which vacuum hose we may or may not have connected or connected properly that would make it do this let us know.. or if it is just the better spark then let it be...

before 4500rpm it still limits to 6psi then shoots up to 12psi...which confuses me a bit..

i had a misfire issue as well and i tired everything , but the fix for my car was the fuel filter..i went down to repco and got myself a new one , changed it over and i was running normal again.

once the old fuel filter was out , i blew through it and blackish petrol came out of it , so a bad batch of fuel along the way caused it.

I wanted to silicone mine, but can't find anywhere that stocks it in newcastle. Bunnings here doesn't have it.

Any ideas? I'll start to look at ebay in a minute.

I tried the tape...it fixed it for 2 days, now its bad again.

i cant believe that bunnings doesnt stock it.. you could try an epoxy glue (high temp resistant).

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
