If it says Catback, its obviously not a turbo back

anjoO, please excuse those youngsters on here with a short fuse

you did explain that you didn't know much.. remember we all start here nowing nothing, but hanging around and reading/posting is what makes you learn. please don't take any posts to heart newbie

i'll try to explain it easily for you:

combustion happens in the cylinders - a chemical reaction occurs between the air and fuel and this creates exhaust gas.

where does this exhaust gas go? well it has to get out of the cylinders so that more air and fuel can get in. there are valves at the top of cylinders that open up and the exhaust gas leaves. it flows through an exhaust manifold, and over the exhaust wheel of the turbo

(the turbo is basically a long pole with a wheel at each end - one end sticks into the exhaust gas and one end sticks into the intake air)

so gas flows over the exhaust wheel and is now into what most would call the exhaust. so you've passed the turbo now, everything from here is "turbo-back"

gas is still up at the engine, just having passed over hte exhaust wheel of the turbo, and it is into the next pipe which is the dump pipe. this is a short piece of pipe that connects to the front pipe

the front pipe runs down under the car and bolts onto a catalytic converter. now i know you've heard of this device.. if not, its a container filled with chemicals that lets exhaust gas through it and reacts with the gas to remove any nasties

after flowing through the cat you are now in what is termed "cat-back" which is simply a pipe that goes to the back of the car. you might find a resonator or somewhere here to make the car less droney, but you will definately find a muffler at the end to damp down the sound

so, to summarise: (this shows the names of the pipes that the exhaust gas flows through to get out)

cylinder --> exhaust manifold --> turbo --> dump pipe --> front pipe --> cat --> cat-back

hope that helps

well described waz, but i think that it would be a good suggestion that anjoO learn to search the forums in more detail rather than posting 5 new threads a day that there is plenty of information on.

Just suggesting nicely...

If it says Catback, its obviously not a turbo back

the quesiton was what makes up a turbo back no shit a cat back isnt a turbo back

anjoO, please excuse those youngsters on here with a short fuse

no worries man, i hate to admit it but i guess i am a newbie wen it comes to this stuff....and it shits me wen i ask something only to be flamed at because i no little to nothing.

damnet im gonna go on whirlpool forums and flame some newbies about computers to feel better hahaha

Maybe he should have asked the question in this thread "Exactly What Makes Up A Turbo Back" in his other 4 he made about exhausts...

I know you only learn by asking/reading, but maybe try and merge some questions into the one thread rather than starting a new thread each time.

Cheers.

hey dude.

i dont think you deserve a flaming HOWEVER! i suggest otherways of learing stuff about cars ie:

a: use the search button. (but i struggle with that too)

b: car mags, theyre fantastic they have all a man could need (cars, ladies etc)

c: www.howstuffworks.com has many useful articles on cars. look into it.

d: browsing the forum is good to pick up on things too.

cheers :D . james.

Great explanation Waz

Nah man no need to keep it to a minimum..

Before Posting these questions, just search.. Just type in random stuff related to exhausts. Then go thru each link that popped up. Read thru it. learn from it.

Then if you are still stuck then post.

So best to search for threads before posting.

We all started from nothing, but best to learn from asking also your friends also, or read some threads related to it, or car mags etc etc.

Then if you are still stuck ask away...

Wel all dont know everything, except for Sk.. but hes different. hahaha..

But all the best..

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
    • @GTSBoy yeah sorry i know thery are known for colors bud those DBA are too in colors 🙂 Green will be good enough for me
