Let's just see what happens when our piggy 1600 kg, air conditioned, 75db, street legal tyre, stock airbox - setup GTRs hit the tracks in Sydney.

We have a secret weapon on our side. Racepace.

I think Bruce says it all

Hey John - FYI here's the times from Dutton Vic last year. I'm pretty sure that Peter Fitzgerald guy can drive - and this was a cheater GT3. You might want to note where that Newman/Berry GTR sits on the list for reference as well. And that GTR up the top is only the 3rd quickest one down here. Hopefully they'll all be coming to Syd.

That is impressive. Maybe I should move to Vic for some competition.

To make it fair I will give you guys half a lap head start only now.

hahahah love it. Nothing like a bit of shitstiring :(

Exactly and not beer talk if going to the track and doing as seems like most here do unlike some of the NSW crowd as some just beer talk. Some are in the bleaches with all the answers and never go out.

By the way I must be thinking of different GT3's as more GT3 Cup cars which I know is not a proper comparison but one of our customers Jonathon Webb races a GT3 , who also helps us at our track days a lot, and road car is a nice S15, anyway he came third in Carerra Cup last year and in his new GT3 in qualifying at Wakefield a few months back did a 59.5 at Wakefield as in less than a minute and yes on slicks, and new ones. This is the new sequential gear box one. I would like to see any GTR do that? Before you get excited a Zed either.

Yeah we weren't talking about Cup Cars on slicks - thats a different ball game and not really comparing apples with apples.

We are talking street registered (or RP) cars on semi-comps.

Although if Sam comes to NSW I'm really keen to see what times he can do. If you look at the Winton times I posted above - Sams best there is apparently 1.27s - on semi comps. Not sure how that time compares to Cup cars but it'd be damn close.

ahh i thought we were talking GT3 cup cars too. my friend has a 996 cup car (05 spec) and they are very quick due to good brakes, good torque, good handling, working well on slicks. but they are down on power compared to your average light tune-medium tuned GTR. A decent cup car will only be putting out around 260-280rwkw. but yes they are a purpose modified race car and porshce are bloody good at it.

Was that a Skyline Stop Watch?

Apparently I did a 1 min 26.

V8's Superstars do a 1 min 23 Porsches are a fraction slower.

Yes love stiring the Skyline pot.

PS Actually I have never been to Winton.

Which car is Sam's anyway as can't tell who is who on these forums??

Sam's car is a white R32GTR with cage and no interior, does a 1:15 at Sandown, that's flyyyyyyyyyyyyyying :)

Oh, and yes, that's on semi comps, not sure on power output.... just over 400rwkw, i think??

our GTR's are also full road cars, not stripped, and i still drive mine to and from work everyday (but i'm one of the slow ones).

I guess what I'm sying is that its hard to compare a street GTR to a fully race prepped slot car, and we won't even start talking about tyres!!!

I love it when GTR guys insinuate that removing a bit of dead weight from a car is cheating. :action-smiley-069: The fact that the most the VIC GTRs are full street cars is good, you all seem to forget how much bloody coin has been spent on all of them :(

Id rather take 60kgs out of my car, as its basically free...But as soon as anyone removes weight much of the credit for lap times diminishes?!?!?! Built engines, fully adjustable suspension, funny diffs, touring car sized brakes...lol last time i went to Coles i didnt need anymore from a street car then what the Lada offered :O

I sure as shit cant afford to keep up with any of the GTR guys in the spending stakes...so ill have to resort to removing what obvious weight i can...wah wah wah..im feeling sorry for myself because my employer pays his monkeys peanuts

PS...i have always liked Johns car...it looks so right on the track. I always suspected it could be a little bit quicker...lets see what all the suspension work reveals :)

Roy - no doubt about it, these GTR's have had quite a bit of coin spent on them, but has John's car been a budget build-up??? I guess if someone like me owned a workshop it wouldn't have cost me as much as it has..

John's car also has a 'fully built engine', 'fully adjustable suspension', 'funny diff' and 'touring car brakes', what I was trying to say is that our cars are registrered and some of them daily driven, where as John's car is a dedicated race car...

Do you see any credit in that???

And also I didn't call John's car a cheater car, everyone knows it is!!!

Looks like Snowy is putting his money where his mouth is and organising a trip to put all this keyboard racing to rest. I would be a guaranteed attendee if i wasn't in the final throws of a profit announcement at that time of year. :P Bummer

Regards

Andrew

Jack, stop trying to make sense. Im trying to paint a picture here. And your messing with my canvas. Just because you have the tastiest GTR in the land, your still on the other side....cheaterer. :D

John is supreme cheaterer, but at least he is kinda like a RWD cousin who one day you want to be like.(my car as quick as the ZED)

GTR drivers are kinda like that distant cousin who is better at everything, gets all the good looking girls etc...can handle them having them beingbetter but i hate when thye get the girls.

So yeh, what were you on about, i mean what? Are you confused? Probably, becaue you probably cheated in school too :P

I'd remove weight if there were anything in it I don't like, but the aircon, back seat, stereo, roof liner etc all make it so much nicer when I'm driving it in the hills on the weekends.

Also keeps the cops off my back. I'd say a very legal appearance is the secret for having your cake and eating it.

A sick car stuck on the trailer in the back yard for the weekends the tracks are closed would suck man...

Yep cheater car now in someway as lightened and aero etc but funny thing was it was called a cheater car up here anyway for years now even when it really wasn't.

We have had a lot of development and testing on this car and have sold four motors out of it each time using the funds to try different pistons and turbo's etc

It is actually quite cheep realy. It has as stock gear box, single plate 6 button clutch that cost me a bit over $400 dollars compared to GTR's thousands of dollars worth of exotic twin plates. Turbo's cost me a bit over a thousand dollars each, reground cams cost me less than $400, factory exhaust manifolds extrude honed, modified Apexi Power FC, R32 GTR diff modified, still runs factory dash and trim, until recently had factory conrods linseed and shot peened until we bent them on dyno at 427rwkw on a recent SAU dyno day, now have Scat rods which are also cheap retail at $895. So no big money at all. Suspension currently second hand HKS saving up for Super Racing Tein coil overs. The car cost me $6000 to start with but very rough old girl.

Go Roy should get them to disconnect the front drive shaft and race, GTR's are no where in rear wheel drive only.

Found these times on Natsoft.

Air conditioner? Stereo ? Come on Aaron, man up. I refuse to use air conditioning because its contributes to global warming. Dont need a radio either as all those high frequencies in the atmosphere are making the birds sterile! ts fries their poor little balls you know. :)

So i understand why ppl might not use them so consider removing the. Its a social stand it is! :)

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
