Lost my freaking original R32 GTR key on the weekend (ahh the perils of clubs that don't close). I have spares but they were cut badly and only seem to work in the ignition, and badly at that.

Does anybody over in Japan know if Nissan can supply the original ready-cut keys (not just blanks) for a car that old ('89)? I have a mate in Okinawa that I can get to receive it and send on.. but just wonderin.

Spose otherwise I just have to get another blank and get a locksmith to cut it??

they dont supply pre cut keys. nissan (either japan or aus or anywhere) sell only blank keys.

just buy a blank from nissan aus. it may need a little linishing after being cut to work nicely.

Are you in Australia?

Just Jap sell gtr key blanks.

Get one of those and grab one of your keys that "were cut badly". Bring them both to a locksmith.

Ask to talk to a locksmith in the shop, don't talk to the counter chick or the apprentice.

Ask them to "read the cuts" your crappy key and get them to cut a new "key by code" on a regular blank, just to make sure it works good and so they don't accidently stuff your gtr blank (they're about $50 ea for a gtr blank). If it works good then get them to cut it to your gtr blank.

It'll probably cost you about $20 - $30 to get that done from a locksmith.

Any Nissan Dealer can get you an original GTR key and have it cut if you know the code.. Northside Nissan in Perth did this for me recently..

Standard keys were like $10 or $15 and the GTR keys were like $65.. This is definitely the way to go, but you need to know the code..

Have fun!!

I bought a Nismo key last year when Nengun still had them, paid $45. Nismo stopped making them so places will run out of stock soon (I think I saw some on Nismo.com). When I got mine cut the guy said that the type of key was typically hard to cut, but it has worked everytime for me.

Great collectors items now :)

I am thinking of putting my key away and having the Nismo item or spare i had made to use.

To often these keys are taken for granted and some people just think they cant be lost.

I have the code marked on the spares aswell just in case,

Anyway good luck at the locksmith if u didint have your code.

Thanks all - very helpful information. Unfortunately, regardless of the number of times I thought about it, I didnt write that damn number on the key down. Can see it in my mind... 5788.. 5978.. lol.. useless

Everyone take this chance to organise your backups -- I was blase about the whole thing, "I am so good with my keys", "I never loose sh$t" -- one seriously heavy night out and I pretty much lost everything (well.. someone definately took it all, but I was not being careful).

Have a couple of blanks on the way from UAS -- will do as KeyMakeR33 said and get them to read the cuts and cut to code on a cheapie then cut my goodies -- then ill be able to actually get into my boot again !!

Cheeeeers!

    • The final part arrived today to un-clampify and simplify the intake Who would have though a 1/2" hose stainless bulkhead fitting designed for below waterline bilge pumps would be what I needed Test fit on a 3" offcut I had laying around to see if it would work, and it worked a treat All going well the intake will be on its "final version" tomorrow

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
