I’ve been meaning to post a thread on this topic for ages. Every day I drive a good 35-40 km to work so I see a fair bit of traffic, not as much as some but enough to note some pretty bad driving habits. What I’m keen to find out is what fellow SAU members think Victoria’s most annoying road offence is. The one that p|sses me off the most is drivers blatantly running red lights. Almost EVERY day I see at least one car run a red light and hold up traffic with the green light. Not only is it annoying but it’s just plain dangerous. A few years ago I witnessed a car speed up to beat a red light only to collide with a car that had already entered the intersection; he was completing his turn when the speeding car struck him. It was a pretty big hit and the driver was lucky to survive. Anyway I’ve listed some of the things I could think of but feel free to add any you can think of below and don’t forget to vote. I’m keen to see what you guys\girls think!

I get alot of people who tailgate me with those dazzling xenon front lights that blind u when they go up hills. And get alot of people who tailgate me (when im on the limit), posibly because my car can go fast and its not, who give me 10-20 seconds of high beams in my rearview just before turning off. Nothinnnnnnnng annoys me more. Do they WANT me to get out and knock them out or what -_-

hate people that tail gate, its always either tradies or soccer mums in a hurry to pick up their snotty little kids.

if they are really close, i love to just slow right down and hold em up as much as i can. it doesn't change how quickly you get to where you're going, so why do it?

with the tailgating, if you're sitting in the right lane, and just cruising along, not passing anyone...then not only are you breaking the law, but you're holding up those that do want to pass.

if they wanto sit 10km/h over the limit, its their business, and not your job to slow them down....so if you're being tailgated in that scenario, move over.

Agreed. If you want to add another option for the poll... -People driving slow in the fast lane. ie road 80k/h or more with 2 or more lanes. I drive an hour to, and an hour back from work every day. about 90mins a day going 100k/h. I just want to do the speed limit so move over....

got tailgates by a taxi in the wee hours of the morning not too long ago... he was trying to get me to break the speed limit so he could get where he was going.... sitting so close i could barely see he headlights....

so i just jumped on the breaks.... lets just say he barely missed my rear bumper much to my dismay (want a new one) and then didnt tail gate me at all after that

Yeah though of that, but I think thats a given

grr last 3 piss me off.. but the worst is tailgating at 100/k hr.. also on the Ring Rd are the worst tailgating pricks (yes tradies are def #1 offenders) who sit 1m from your ar5e even though there's 2 lanes full of traffic and at least 1+ cars directly in front of you holding you up.. I don't know what/where they expect me to do/go but some of them don't even back off when they have brakelights suddenly flashing them even now and again.. use Bec's method when really necessary too.. even if it holds up 5 more cars behind them.. some people just don't get the msg tho.. and they are all out today of course, grr.

One other problem is at the Montague St entrance to the Westgate.. they do not look at all before they move into the left lane.. (its added lanes not a merge).. had to swerve/brake a few times now to avoid having a fatal collison with a truck or 3.

The other thing that really annoys me is morons who think they need to prove that their sh1tboxes are faster than the 180, and try to cut me off or change lanes RIGHT in front of me only to go under the speed limit. Doesn't happen even half as much in the 32 gah.

You guys don't have enough bandwidth for the rest of my ranting..

i have a problem/bad habit of having about 4" of ass crack peeking out of the top of my jeans on a daily basis if that counts

lol

but seriously, tailgating or ppl who sit in the right hand lane on a fwy doing 70 kms

    • @Haggerty this is your red flag. In MAP based ECU's the Manifold pressure X RPM calculation is how the engine knows it is actually...running/going through ANY load. You are confusing the term 'base map' with your base VE/Fuel table. When most people say 'base map' they mean the stock entire tune shipped with the ECU, hopefully aimed at a specific car/setup to use as a base for beginning to tune your specific car. Haltech has a lot of documentation (or at least they used to, I expect it to be better now). Read it voraciously.
    • I saw you mention this earlier and it raised a red flag, but I couldn't believe it was real. Yes, the vacuum signal should vary. It is the one and only load signal from the engine to the ECU, and it MUST vary. It is either not connected or is badly f**ked up in some way.
    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
