scathing - yes I know this is a jap import forum - I drive a skyline remember on these cruises?

And Im a member of commodore forums and when theres an antiskyline thread I post the facts. (such as one on SC now)

On here I thought people were enthusiasts of performance cars as well as skylines owners/drivers. Thats why Im sick of the commodore bashing threads!!

Oh - and browsing the ford forums - I think the most will go the 'line over the lion due to the rivalry!!!!

Im a Holden V8 man at heart - next car will be a monaro but not for a few more years, Im going to enjoy my line as Im an all round enthusiast.

to say that the gtr dominated the touring cars is fine, but it didn't win every race, and it was a far cry from a street gtr. and i don't think there was any ford v8's running those years (except for old models). ford didn't make a v8 in the ea falcon range. so the fords that nissan were beating were 4 cylinder turbos. and they beat the nissan in some rounds.

If you look up the history books you will see how heavily CAMS handicapped the GT-R's to allow everyone else to be even half competitive, Sierra's included.

Ford stopped putting V8's in Falcons in 1982 (The XE with the Clevelend motor) & only restarted with a small 302 Windsor in the EB. They are still paying for it today by way of losing a generation of potential buyers.

All you have to do is compare a 10 year old Commodore and a 10 year old Skyline and see which one is still together and which one has fallen apart and thats why people bag out these Commo shitters

how many skylines do you see with 200,000k's on them though. if you find a commodore with 80,000k's on it and see what condition its in.

10 year old body will still be average-the VT panel gaps were all over the place when they came out of the factory, let alone 10 years on

Whats your point, I'd actually go out on a limb and say the majority of R31's are better than VS's I see these days and they're also alot older.

As for the GTR in bathurst, yes it was heavily handicapped. Cams also even considered reducing its tyre width so that all 4 wheels where equivelant to the two rear (driving wheels) of a commodore making them all 135's or something rediculous.

Man why do all these threads always end up talking about the R32 and Bathurst FFS. It doesn't have any relevance anymore so who gives a shit really.

If anyone wants a fair comparison, why don't we get a 4 door Jap car and then start comparing. I know for starters I'd be caught dead in a Camry or Maxima. And as much as I am anti-Holden, I'd rather take a VE SS over an Accord Euro (which incidentally is made in Thailand anyway) to be honest.

If you want to compare Japanese "performance" sedans compare:

Skyline 350GT sedan

Toyota Mark X

Honda Euro-R

Subaru Legacy B4

Mazda6 MPS

vs the Holden Commodore SSs, Ford XR8/6Ts

Also, the Accord (non-Euro) is built in Thailand but the Accord Euro is built in Japan.

From that list Wink posted, only the Skyline 350GT and the Toyota Mark X would be a good comparison because they're the only RWDs... actually no. The Skyline and Mark X are one bodysize smaller than the VE.

A totally fair comparison would be the Nissan Fuga (V8 version is the Infiniti M45) and the Toyota Crown Majesta V8. But those cars are almost semi-limosines and would probably be a better comparison to the Holden Statesman. But even then the Nissan and Toyota are 3 years old already.

So at the end of the day, the VE and Falcon are on their own. Nothing out of Japan can really be compared to them because they are big ass V8 sedans but with a performance slant. Most (Japanese) car makers have the large V8 sedan as the top luxury model., or as in BMWs case, a V10 and an astronomical price tag.

Skyline vs Commodore? Only at Bathurst...

The commo looks the goods. Im sure the hsv range will be a beauty. When I owned my r33 gts25t I use to think it was unbelievable. Just bought a 04 wrx and the skyline has nothing on a rex. That includes performance, handling and styling.

Try a '04 V35 Skyline 350GT v the '04 WRX...

Theres about 10 years between these cars, a fairer comparison is to a GTR and we all know which is better

^^got to it before me Rezz

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
