Made this today. it turned out good i got some pix of how i did it.

First we had to mark out on the hood where we were going to put it.

podone.jpg

Then we covered up the car so that we did not get sparks on the paint.

Then we cut out the hole out for the vent.

Then we painted the cut steal so that it would not rust.

Then put the vent on and this is how it looks now.

well, i dont know about rain being an issue

i ran my pod in the front bar for a few years and never had any dramas

ive since moved it back into the engine bay, due to the pod getting too dirty being down that low

i prefer my airhole below the pod

i already had holes there, so now i suck up cool air from the ground side

nice :P

out of curiosity, what's the legality on cutting the bonnet?

PS i reckon spray the mesh black also.. looks a bit funny with the mesh in silver but the vent in black...

What i have done is still legal because i have not cut the sub frame out of it. So it has not been weakened in any way.

Mud it was so hard doing it thats why i spent so long preping it all lmao.

it took 60 sec to cut it out and like 40 min to get it all set up. it was not something i wonted to rush

I’d paint the mesh black.. Or even the same colour as the car.. But that’s just me, other wise looks like a clean job.

I duno if I would worry about rain, I had a custom alloy box with no base in my standard intercooler location with a Pod in it, that pulled air from the ground and wheel well.

The car spent a lot of time on wet roads, with no problems with water getting anywhere near the turbo.

yer most of the time if ya get watter in ya turbo ya can hear it. has happend to me befor drive throw a pot hole with watter in it. it was back and running fine after about 60 sec. If i am driveing and it rains relly hadr then i will just put a peace of duck tape over the mesh its only smaal so dont hink i will have to do that

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
