I heard of people running a stock gtr pump or gtst pump in the tank feeding directly to a bosh 044 - is this a bad idea ? one guy has been running his gtr to over 400rwkw like this.

Reason why is because i dont really want to have the bosh pump outside of the tank cover to try and mask some noise and i want to put a xbox in its place instead of putting a surge tank there if i can.

Any suggestions or ideas on what can be done? i would prefer a intank system if i can.

Yep, Walbros are fine as long as they don't have to pump much pressure.

I use a standard R32GTR fuel pump to supply my surge tank and 044. Works perfectly as it is pumping against zero pressure. Once you remove the requirement for the standard pump to work against pressure, their flow rate increases exponentially. If you are feeding an 044 directly, that’s even better because they suck, the standard pump is now pumping into a partial vacuum.

I use 044's in tank ALL THE TIME, and I NEVER have a noise problem. People get noise problems because they don't insulate the pump, let the pick up sit on the floor of the tank or let the pump itself touch the side of the tank.

Already have it ready to take the inlet system and manifolds. Only holdup will be that I forgot to order a cam belt so will have to get a courier if one is available. Hope to be in and running Monday.

I finally got my new cat fitted and finished off the exhaust today.

What a difference, it now comes on boost so quickly for a big turbo. Im not going to gas it much until it gets tuned on Wednesday as Id hate to melt this new cat :D

Hey brad, i pressure tested the pipework earlier on in the week and found a pretty bad boost leak...it could explain something lol. I fabbed up a new turbo to i/c pipe so it seals better and flows better also. No more leaks now, however its gotta go back on the dyno to see if that was the power stealing problem. Good to hear you got your exhaust all sorted, im interested in what power you end up making when it gets tuned. Keep us filled in mate.

Hey Shane how did you go with getting the engine to sit right?

yeah i did sort it out - the problem is my new carbon fibre bonnet sits too low :P i had a std one and placed it on, and bingo, as soon as the gearbox is bolted up she'll sit sweet as. so gotta get a new cf one that actually fits, sigh, more farken money :laugh:

oh and i can also note, there is ~10mm clearance between the front axles and the cross member! lol

shane your car is a never ending project. Its like that damn energizer bunny.

ur telling me. it seems that when i get something finished, another problem jumps and thats gotta be fixed

P.S did u change to a T04z?

just out of interest would there be much gain in doing a 25/30 in a relativly stock car usual mods which i have at the moment PFC, Exhauste, Cooler boost at 12psi.

the reason i ask is that a mate of mine that is a mechanic has a couple a rb30's hangin around and is trying to convince me to put one in (its not going to cost much to do as we will leave the engine as is)

I plan on going a highflow and injectors in the near future and think i will be happy with that for at least a year or so.

so in the end will it be worth it on a fairly stock car? more than anything im looking for torque and driveability

The stock turbo will absolutely kill any top end you have, itll drive like a diesel topping out at 4k, Id wait till you can afford to do everything properly so to save on dyno time and everything else.

Brad, What Rpm does the T04z hit full boost, say in 4th gear? What rear housing you got?

Hi I have read a lot of the last 247 pages and searched as much as I can but still have a few unanswered questions I was hoping you guys could help me out with. Im putting the rb25/30 standard bottom end engine in a r32 and gonna use a TO4z turbo. The car will be used for track days, tarmac events, and the like.

So here goes…

1. If (can) I use a RB26DETT d-jetro power fc. Ive read its been done before but with what sensors? I’m hoping to use my rb20det sensors and loom.

2. If I use the d-jetro will it control the VVT solenoid in my RB25DET head? If not, can I remove the vvt pulley and cam and use a RB20DET cam with adjustable pulley.

3 If I can I would probably get it ground for longer duration and higher lift, I think SK recommends 264 – 270 duration – but what is the max lift I can use without having to machine anything.

4. Will the PFC run high and low impedance injectors?

5. If the vvt cam is removed can I supply the oil for the cam bearing via the vvt solenoid hole?

6. How do I get top feed injectors to fit an rb25det (side feed) plenum. Is there a seal or o-ring I can use?

1. You probably can use the d-jetro but so long as you use the correct corresponding sensors and adapt them to the rb25 head. Whether rb20 ones will work only someone whose done that before will know. SK will more then likely know, as i think he may have used a rb20 loom with his 26/30 in his r32.

2. Highly unlikely as no gtr had or has the vct thats found in rb25's. Not sure on what cam you could use to replace it though. However StockyMcstock removed his vct and runs a normal 'non vct' camshaft i believe.

3.not a 100% percent sure on max lift but i think its something like 9.0mm maybe 9.5mm, i know poncams at 8.5mm clear but i think once you start getting higher then around 9 you need machining done so lobes dont hit the head. Perhaps someone else knows for sure.

4.one or the other unless you can run a resistor pack inline somewhere. Being a gtr comp you will probably have to run with low imp top feeds i think they are.

5.If you checked back alot of pages ago, StockyMcstock talked about how he blocked off the vct. The std bearing holes still provide oil for the camshaft and the front has its own supply i think it doesnt rely on the vct feed that bleeds off into the camshafts feed.

6. No there isnt, you will need a top feed fuel rail, aftermarket unless you can adapt a gtr rail to it somehow.

You should have gone through and read from start to finish all of the 247 pages and you would have come across almost enough to answer those questions. I was lucky, there was only like 160 or so when i started reading into it, took me about a 2-3 days of reading every night after work for a few hours.

    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.
    • How do you propose I cable tie this: To something securely? Is it really just a case of finding a couple of holes and ziptying it there so it never goes flying or starts dangling around, more or less? Then run a 1/8 BSP Female to [hose adapter of choice?/AN?] and then the opposing fitting at the bush-into-oil-block end? being the hose-into-realistically likely a 1/8 BSPT male) Is this going to provide any real benefit over using a stainless/steel 1/4 to 1/8 BSPT reducing bush? I am making the assumption the OEM sender is BSPT not BSPP/BSP
    • I fashioned a ramp out of a couple of pieces of 140x35 lumber, to get the bumper up slightly, and then one of these is what I use
    • I wouldn't worry about dissimilar metal corrosion, should you just buy/make a steel replacement. There will be thread tape and sealant compound between the metals. The few little spots where they touch each other will be deep inside the joint, unable to get wet. And the alloy block is much much larger than a small steel fitting, so there is plenty of "sacrificial" capacity there. Any bush you put in there will be dissimilar anyway. Either steel or brass. Maybe stainless. All of them are different to the other parts in the chain. But what I said above still applies.
    • You are all good then, I didn't realise the port was in a part you can (have!) remove. Just pull the broken part out, clean it and the threads should be fine. Yes, the whole point about remote mounting is it takes almost all of the vibration out via the flexible hose. You just need a convenient chassis point and a cable tie or 3.
