You would need...

CAT--Muffler--Muffler

You won't have room for a resonator one you get two big mufflers in there (you'll see what i mean once it's on a hoist).

You might even have to go down the road of custom mufflers to get them as big as possible, that is the aim, nice big fat sound absorbing ones :D

I'll freely say im outta my depth with N/A RB's. I don't know how well they drop in sound with various sizes exhausts, mufflers etc.

Turbo RB's however i've seen many configs that do/don't work, but as is said the turbo alters things. How much i am unsure.

Also with N/A's you don't neccesarily need "straight" through style exhausts far as i know (due to far less pressure in a N/A system), which gives you many more muffler choices/options.

I could again be wrong there... N/A performance, not my specialty.

Hopefully someone else can ride a white horse in and offer more :)

thanks mate

yeah already got a cat so all i needa do is put in a nice n big mid muffler and drop the cannon to something smaller as my previous post n ill make the legal noise limit

thanks for the help, hopefully all goes well...ill talk to another place tomorrow, wasnt too keen on paying the place i went to today 280 for a universal stock muffler wif crome tips they would put on after they change the cannon to the universal stock muffler.

thanks again

Well you might not be ok dude - perhaps wait a day or so for some more advice.

Others here might know more than i do on the topic.

If you don't make the noise limit after paying for two new mufflers - that'll be shithouse for ya.

yeah true mate....be a massive pain seemings i failed the on the spot test n they took pics of the car...so wont to do it correct now n pass n keep it like it forever so they cant dog me again

^ Excellent view mate - props to you for thinking that way - if only others did the same.

Its ok to get pinned, but to get pinned and leave it (just to get done again, and again), is silly.

I was the same years ago (silly lol) - put a stocker on and forget about it.

But meh, after 3 exhaust noises in 12 months, i'd had enough and eventually just got a new exhaust that's nice and quiet :)

People don't even hear my car pull up in the street these days, far cry from my younger/dumber years :D

Ash they were getting police to nab people on Deakin Ave and 15th streets Mildura (the two main highways through town run via these two), and testing at the local Centro carpark. AFAIK it was a one off, but they may do it again in future.

Silly really, because of the way word gets around about such things, most of the feral hoons leave the streets within 5 - 10 minutes of finding out about such things, leaving everyone else to get caught out. In fairness I was running a straight 3" pipe with a decat at the time lol, so ended up getting 106db lol. I luckily missed out on copping another 500 dollar fine for the Microtech in my car after discussing with Lou how shithouse it was and my intention to get rid of it (still trying to work out to get a stock ECU running with butchered loom etc).

They did 30 cars that night and I'm pretty sure every single one got at least a 500 dollar fine, and I saw a stock Subaru Liberty getting done (I don't know how that came under the classification of 'loud') lol.

They took photos of the exhaust and the car etc, I figured that if I at least have something with mufflers next time it's a start :). I did get a v. quiet JASMA spec exhaust with two mufflers, but I'm starting to get sick of it being so quiet, so will likely end up getting a Kakimoto Full Mega N1 or something liek that.

i got done the other week in melbourne in broady by fawkner tmu.

They took pics of my engine bay and exhaust,i recieved the epa letter which states i need an emissions and noise test to be done at hoppers crossing or indy automotive in moorabbin.

My car is a s13 with a sr20 off its nuts in there atm.Im currently removing everything including aftermarket ecu.

should i keep my stainless turbo manifold or put stocko back on?post-69247-1261221522_thumb.jpg

heres a pic of my engine bay im going nuckin futs atm

  • 2 weeks later...

black would look stock - so id say you'd be OK anyway.

Thing is, you need aftermarket ECU (or chipped) to run aftermarket. EPA know that. Is they see ye ole stock ECU no problems - they know you need ECU for it etc.

Worst case just say they are non OEM replacements, no problems running different brands - its the size change they care about vs emissions, something you arent changing

I have the following in my R32 GTR

- twin Apexi air filters

- turbo timer

My car is a personal import which I had and drove in Japan. When it was checked by an engineer to be passed for registration there were no issues. That was 5 years ago, has anything changed since then? Never been stopped but a bit worried as the rules seem to change a lot.

Oh BTW, is there a helpful list of EPA-safe parts as recommendation that we can refer to. I know it could be a bit hard since it may be based off personal experiences, could be helpful in the long run.

I always assume that if a car is registered and has no problem in getting RWC then it should pass any kind of police or EPA inspection, but going by the stories here they don't inspire much confidence!

Maybe something like this :

Standard (all models)

- yellow injectors (250cc or whatever stock is supposed to be)

- ride height 15mm

- standard boost (I wouldn't know)

- Stock ECU (model xxxxx)

- Stock exhaust (2"?)

etc...

R32 (specific standard components)

- blah blah

R33 (specific standard components)

- blah blah

R34 (specific standard components)

- blah blah

Thanks!

I think the Timer definitely benefits the car in cooling down properly even for NA cars.

No it doesn't.

yes, the EPA and VicRoads websites.

The documentation is VERY clear to be honest. There is no reason you should need to ask unless its unlisted - in which case it'll be in this list/thread pretty much

Why not?

Direct links pls?

Why not?

If you can't take it easy for the last 5mins of your drive, then you need help.

I've never had a turbo timer, never will. Pretty much goes for everyone i know as well.

Links are all through this thread - i honestly CBF'd going through it. Have you even read the thread?

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
