i dont think there trying to meet stats/quota's i think there trying to tell us were not welcome anymore :)

Pick up any newspaper or watch any media report.

It's either 1000 impounded cars or a list of how many cars impounded in each suburb etc. No doubt the larger numbers they have the more likely the public will believe that the police are making a difference.

Seeing as the police were under fire due to what happened at noble park, they are trying to restore their reputation in the public by having a "Mega Blitz" and easiest way to increase numbers is at these events.

Sorry shouts of entrapment are just plain wrong.

vicpol didn't sell or fit any modified parts, they also didn't suggest or encourage that it be done. They didn't make johnnos commy have bald tyres or cause any other rwc issues....So they didn't invite the people that they also didn't sell/fit/encourage to modify the vehicles of to the event that they didn't organise.

Yep that surely sounds a lot unlike entrapment to me.

coralling or hearding maybe :)

They did go to a place where they new a large number of offenders may be found instead of driving around aimlessly pulling over randoms or setting up on a highway? YES.. Geez seems like a logical use of resources for a good result when you look at in that light hey.

Stop pointing blame and calling shenaniggans

mate i dunno wats wrong with some of you guys...

khunjeng and a few others saying grab a tissue - why don't u lube that tissue and wipe your rim cos ure getting f*kd and you're loving it.

lol, good call

All those agreeing with the Police - again you are part of the Problem, not the solution. Its people with your mentality that introduce or suggest these harsh penalties.

whats amazing is that some of the fines people receive for mods are completely disproportionate to their so called offence

general petty criminals often get fined less. :)

HOONS do not = MODIFIED CARS

Try telling that to the average stupid public. When people at my work found out i drive a modified skyline they straight away made a link to me being a hoon :)

Just so you all know.....as taken from NS.com....

"65A. Improper use of motor vehicle

(1) A person must not drive a motor vehicle in a manner which causes the motor vehicle to undergo loss of traction by one or more of the motor vehicle's wheels.

Penalty: 5 penalty units."

You will note that there is no mention of "highway" in this offence. Which means the offence occurs ANYWHERE. Yes, that's right...even if you were doing circle-work in the back paddock of a farm in the middle of nowhere, entirely on private property, you would still commit the offence.

Also, the organisers of Drag Tag do NOT have permits for the burnouts and drifting that goes on in the 'skid pan' there. So if the cop wanted to be a smart ass, any person taking part in the driving events can be charged and have their car impounded.

But hey the law is the law.

Now that everyone knows that law, if you risk it by going to a "legal off-street" event and get done for the hoon laws then as you black/white viewed people say, "tough luck".

BECAUSE THE LAW IS THE LAW SO STOP WHINGING :(

I just read your post, nothing gets passed you huh?

All this crap about car parks being public highway and all that....it is just too damn confusing....

I think push bike all the way now!

hahaa

No, i dont believe a private property to be a sanctioned road section.

I never have and cops have always said it was the case.

It just took me a few beers and the expenditure of a little tad of my growing displeasure @ the Vic Police for me to actually go digging through the Road Safety Act :(

All that legal jargon confuses me, they need a translater.

If there is an online translater to convert Japanese to english, sure there can be a translater to convert legal jargon to regular english?

Have a few beers John.. or bourbons.

Whatever tickles your fancy really

Its the only "translator" ive found that works consistently for me :(

Thanks ToF.

I was very hard done by 5 years ago when i was young and naieve.

I will never let a cop/court dick me hard like that again because: "i simply didnt know better"

Havent read the whole thread. Same old same old.

But i will add this. The Vic govt seem confused. The Dept of Sports and Recreation is spending money with CAMS and a private contractor in order to develop plans to improve access to mtorsport facilities...amongst other things.

Two of the main objectives are :

* Providing facilities which meet community sport and recreational needs;

* Identifying and evaluating secondary advantages that would enable motor sport to work with and complement other industries and/or activities (eg: tourism for regions, junior development, young driver road safety awareness programs, etc);

There wont be any need for facilities if they force all the cars off the road and take all the licences of drivers interested in motorsport.

Im all for getting along, and i agree the average modifed car owner may have to wear a little heat for a while after the Noble Park thing. But im not sure the current approach has been thought through by the powers to be.

The police are using the book. Ok, have to accept that. I would love to see a little more discretion being shown as like any bloke and plenty of girls many like their cars as well. But what i think needs to happen is the book needs to change.

Otherwise who is the Govt kidding with this venture with CAMS?

inark, check the previous page, down the bottom, sky's reference to the 43th post, and i've got it quoted down near the bottom

that post wasnt stating they pulled over the people doing burnouts or "hooning" outside the venue. Thats just Ks interpretation.

Nor did it state the venue owners encourage the cops to hang right outside the venue so people cant get past without being harrassed.

Once again... people arent reading posts properly and just getting on their high horse and assuming.

WRONG, police cars are fitted with a "performance chip" are they not, now i thought modifying or aftermarket ECU's were not allowed... they are under the law also, not above it...

anyways on another note, does anyone know what "1 penalty unit"

is worth, eg $monerty value / demerit points?

Yup!! Vic police sends out a clear message, "I have a better chance on the back roads and get away with it, rather than, going to venues such as drag tag knowing they will be there waiting. Yup got that loud n clear. Thanks

specially ones with no cat converter (general modifications that you get busted for) arent really "SAFETY" problems, they are more epa and pollution laws set in place to protect emmision standards, our atmotsphere etc, so how is it 'OK' if you use your motor vehicle with these epa breaking modifications on a private property? its still polluting isnt it?

Do you know what catalytic converters do?

They help convert poisonous chemicals to non-poisonous ones. So in other words, people driving around with punched cats or test pipes are actually poisoning themselves and those around them. And you don't need to breathe that much of it in for it to affect your body, unlike carbon dioxide which isn't technically poisonous and you'd need a low oxygen content in the air for it to be dangerous.

At least with a dedicated track car its not being driven every day. There isn't a chance of it sitting in peak-hour traffic poisoning those around you. And, relatively speaking, there are few track cars out there. The ones that do exist don't sit in kilometres worth of bumper-to-bumper traffic, idling away. If every car on the road ran without a cat, a significant number of people would probably die during the morning and afternoon jams.

So yes, busting people for cat-less cars is a safety concern.

As for loud exhausts, off-street they've generally zoned the area. Most race tracks and drag strips will have a generous buffer or sound baffling to stop the neighbours from being unduly stressed about the noise these cars generate. Your typical suburban street doesn't. No its not about safety, but its about consideration and respect to the people whose homes and places of business you happen to be driving past.

I thought you fooil sik modifying types were all about respect. Its more than just a bunch of randoms thinking your wang is big because of some number printed on a sheet of paper.

I don't think its fair to put up a defect station somewhere that people in the modified car community put in the effort n try do something legal for once...

They may be trying, but if people are still driving on the street in cars that aren't road legal then its a half-arsed effort because they're still blatantly failing.

Being "legal" means more than not street racing nor doing burnouts.

    • Yea, that is what I was getting at in my ramblings too. The nismo one actually is a 1.5 way and a 1 way. They don't do a *2* way because a true *2* way would have equal ramp angles. Or is that a true 1.5 way? Realistically I think a "1.5 way" does not actually exist. A diff can either lock in two directions or one. It also doesn't help that a LOT of people in Australia speak about 1.5 way diffs are referring to their 1 way diff.
    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
    • Welcome Adam. Car looks great!
    • "With a 1.5-WAY, the LSD is effective only during acceleration."
    • Well it wasn't as easy as I thought.... and it also wasn't in my original manual which I did end up finding. They discuss the process in the Nismo catalogue though and it requires slight machining. Page 145.  NISMO PARTS CATALOGUE 2020
