Hey guys,

My brother also owns an R32 gtst & when his engine is cold (left overnight) it hesitates on acceleration. If you keep the same peddle pressure it will hold back for a second then eratically rev harder as normal. Is this a normal thing? or maybe an issue? Having said that it operates fine once the car is at normal operating temp.

Thanks guys

the problem is in the ECU.

it is nissans way of warming up the engine with minimal stress on the engine. it goes into rich and retarded mapping up until something like 3300rpm or until you put your foot down a bit more.

do it next time you drive it cold, keep your foot at the same level and get to around 3300 and you will notice a sudden rush as the fuel and ignition maps have gone back to normal.

it is completely normal

That doesn't sound right. The manual advises to drive easily when cold, till temps are normal, so why would they make the engine run shit at low rpm, doesn't make sense.

When warming up all tunes run rich with retarded timing, but apart from a lack of power, this should not effect drivability.

The above is just a quote from the link i provided.

I am not sure whether this is normal or not, although most r32's seem to have this problem. Would like to know the answer to this problem :D

its a common issue

i personally think its got something to do with the oxygen sensor needing to be warm/hot to operate

it seems like when its off boost it has no power at all, but when it comes into any boost at all it jumps into life like it normally would

neither do i.

check your fuel lines nisskid and make sure they arnt perished through and leaking

yeh i figured it would probably be a leak in the line, weird thing is, it only smells when its cold and running, so unless for some reason the leaks would close up when its warm, doesnt really make sense.

do u 2 have straight through exhuasts, cats?

Only have catback exhaust.

Uploaded a video of my daily cold start. Anyone have similar?

As you can see/hear, the key is turned for a while, then it jumps to life and falls back to zero. a blip on the throttle brings it back to life and idles normally...

Cheers

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
