yeh dont get caught up in the all the bullshit associated with cams and the old boys club...they have a bad reputation for starting rumours and trying to spread them to keep people from enjoying motorsport at QR cause tetley runs AASA and doesnt let the cams guys do what they want...Some of the historic boys are notorious for that petty crap. Unfortunately we happen to be mates with some of them...and hear all the rumours all the time.

If your not referring to what im talking about or dont know about it then my bad. I thought there was a court case with one of the driver training places...but i think thats in the past...or i could be wrong.

I agree with noel...there is alot of skylines getting around on the streets...but not so many actually seriously racing their cars...but i also understand the people who only have street cars cant afford or risk racing their car properly...but dont knock noel for asking the question....hes old but keen...keener then alot of the young folk...like myself :(

It would be nice if we had more fellow skyliners racing..circuit stuff that is...there is too many wrxs out there these days even though none of them are fast its overwhelming sometimes. Fellow nissan support is encouraged.

i dont need to race anyone to enjoy my car

SO TRUE.. been in the phaze of racing now just love the car with the mods... true

maybe some people just cant drive properly yet.....

i was going to say that as well.. or maby ppl have spent so much they dont feel like thrashing there car and wasting the fuel... it is a bit of a drive to get to the race way, and from the gold coast (me) thats a bit of fuel... heheh.... and if you crash for some reason, its a bit expensive to fix... that could be why ppl dont race them as much?... unless you have alot of cash to waste like a formula D drift racers and tune and fix all the time :) .. maby if premium went down to 99cents we might see more?

maybe some people just cant drive properly yet.....

best place to learn is on the track, really it is! Nobody is gunna pick on ya for being to slow if ya just out doing lapsprints or whatever, try it ya might like it.

I found it a real eye opener to see how the car handles at the limit. Doesnt need major mods or anything to be fairly quick an lots a fun.

Put fresh (decent) oil in, go have some fun!

I think its like a few other sports too. If you dont get any training you get to a point and you cant get better, simply because you dont know what your doing right, or what your doing wrong. And when your at that point it can get very frustrating.

Been a while since I have posted on these forums, but I must say that I agree with Fineline to some degree.

Having been to a few track days and skid pans etc etc in the past when I used to own my Skylines, I could understand the cost issue when these cars were over $25k to buy and the same amount to mod, but realistically cars such as 32's and 33's are pretty old and in, what must be called, the budget range nowadays and would be no more expensive to mod and maintain than a VY/BA V8 falcodore. $10K or there abouts for a R33 plus another $10k max in mods and you would have a car well worth taking to the track and kicking some ass, hell you can buy 350+rwhp Skylines already done for under 15K if you are really interested in racing and not posing.

The funny thing is that there used to be more of them out there on the track when they were more expensive to buy and maintain/mod than there are now. Seems to be as the price has nose dived the demographic of Skyline owners has shifted from enthusiasts to F&F wannabes. Sure there are the serious people out there (like a few people on this forum, you know who you are) who still go to the track and all kudos to them, they are what made and continue to make the Skyline rep.

They are a great car and they deserve to be on the track showing people what they can do, not sitting in a carpark showing people how big/shiny the rims are and how many stickers you can slam all over the car.

But hey that is just my opinion after moving on from the drivers car I used to love.

Chris, you said everything I wanted to say but couldn't be bothered typing....long story short, skylines are cheap now and teen racers own them. They put awesome stickers on them, big chrome rims and loud subwoofers....pose at bwcp and their cars never see a track. The view of whats cool has for some reason shifted from having a tough "race" car to having a tough "show" car (pffft).....at the end of the day I suppose, who cares...each to their own, it's your car, do what you want with it. It doesn't matter what everyone else does, do what you want.

ps. Chris <3

man,, were are ppl getting these 10k r33's?.. wtf.. lol... you must be talking about series 1 of course , like 93 or something with one hundred thousand kms? right?.. im not seeing 96/97 r33s at 10k with like 50 to 60/70/80 thousand ks for 10k.. hmmm..haha.. gota remember that cops love us now.. so driving up is always a risk.. maby ppl do not want to risk the fines just to race?... wanna learn how to drive, just drive your car every day and you will learn it no prob, drive in the wet, or what ever, go take a advance driving course in brisbane or a drift course, wanna go thrash your car at a track?, make sure you have it checked over... ohh ps: most of us (me) use our lines as a daily driver, so why kill it right?..

some of us buy the car for the love of the car, ppl buy holden v8 ss and dont takem to a track. and most of us can floor v8 holdens with no prob... :D and lines go pssssssssst..hahhahahaha

bahaha 93 with 100k on the clock? yer mabey if ya speedo has been wound back, try 200 thou

has it been thrashed? every klm from the day i got it.

is it modified? most people know whats done to it, sure is modded

been to track days? shitloads, drove to morgan park, a good couple of hundred ks away from the coast, thrashed the car all day long in the heat, helped slip change his waterpump on his 31 drove home again and drove to work the next day.

door to door racing? a well known driver throwing his car sideways behind you because he ran outta brakes and is about to ram the back of my car close enough for ya?

ive been for a casual cruise and smashed my clutch and had to drive the car home in 3rd yet ive been to a track day and spent the day belting round the circuit with other cars with the aircon on and the radio going.

been through 3 gearboxes, 2 diffs, 3 turbos, an intercooler.

im not rich, nor am i even well off, im just a lowly tradesman but god f**king damn have i enjoyed owning a skyline.

essentially what im saying is you can have a daily drive and thrash the crap outta it. if you learn how to maintain your car and repair it yourself its gonna cost you less. Sitting there and being scared of taking your car to the track and enjoying its true potential is not only a waste of a car, but your robbing yourself of the pleasure of truly enjoying one of nissans greatest creations, GTR or otherwise.

seriesII you might be able to thump a v8 commodore on the street but when youve beaten a 100k gto round a race track lap after lap, then you truly know what your car is capable of.

gota remember that cops love us now.. so driving up is always a risk.. maby ppl do not want to risk the fines just to race?...

dont want the fines? dont mod the car, or better yet, dont own one. if your not prepared to take the good with the bad with owning a particular type of car (steriotypes ect) then put it up for sale. But again, your robbing yourself of the joy and experience because your afraid of the boys in blue, They win, you loose either way. For the record, cops have been hounding import owners since they hit the streets of aus.

enjoy your car any way you choose to, but dont rob yourself of the experience that your car has the potential to give you.

Now thats what i am farkin talkin about. Rock on doood. :)

Thing is.. skylines aren't really that stand-alone anymore in their performance bracket. There is lot else to choose from, which are probably faster given less mods. Which really makes the skyline not that exciting.

It seems that those with some money much prefer to race newish WRX, EVO's, SS's, etc and the status that goes along with them - often as a daily driver. Or your older classics. These blokes are in their 40's and beyond, not really the type that you'll often see driving a mere skyline.

They're also old cars now.. stuff goes wrong at the 10 year mark. You have to be all in, or not in at all these days. In the next couple of years I expect to replace nearly every component of my car, and already have many things.

90% of skyline owners are posers.. and probably misguided ones. They don't hold onto them for long..

lol.. you can mod your car as much as you want... why does that mean you need to race it every chance you get.. look.. why get extra attention by going up there all the time?, arent you drawing attention to your self?.. i have a moded car.. daaaaaar.. and i have never been pulled over. and yes i race a fellow racer now and then in the right area... so hmmmmm...... maby some of use play with our cars to learn?..... you cannot learn all from books, you need hands on..

so to what your saying, can have alot of different areas to it.... yes i know about tracks, and the difference, alot different, im not some 18 year old kid, im 26, been driving for a while, in the same style of car, and i undestand alot is not about power all the time on a track.. thus why suspention comes into play... but, i like what you said though.. just had to add my other half in as well.... do it for the love and understanding of the car, not cause the ego kicks in and says, ill beat you...

some ppl have model cars,, some others will do real life cars :) ... most racers and real modded cars will get brought up on a truck anyhow.. but, its great how we do have a place to go.. but cops are being asses about this, and they know about track day.. lol... so you cannot say.. you wanna mod your car, take the fine. and od what you want, you always need to be carefull not only with cars but alot in life,. hhaha.. mod your car and be smart.. do something to many times and your bound to win a fine.. like the lotto... i love these converstaions.. :D

Series II: What you said is obvious, anyone who knows anything is aware that going to the track isn't all about power but suspension setup (amongst many other things) as well. This can be learnt from books. However, I find it hard to see what side of the story you are arguing. You say you race a fellow racer (I presume on the street). How is this better than racing at a track? It only makes things more illegal and enhances the possibility of being fined. You then say, don't go to tracks as it draws attention to yourself...well...yes but diving a skyline draws attention to yourself. Surely racing at a track will draw less attention than racing on the street.

"I have a moded car...daaaaaar" When James was talking about modified cars I think he was talking about ones that have a little more than an exhaust and a pod hence the fact you will attract defect fines and he is spot on with saying if you don't want fines don't modify your car, in fact, don't buy the car at all. Be as careful as you like, you'll still get fined for something one day. As for true racers rocking up on trucks. Only a small percentage of race cars (at normal track days) will rock up on a flat bed, heaps of the fastest track/drag cars are street driven to and from the event (although sometimes with new parts through breakage).

I try to get mine to the track whenever I can.....hangon....when was the last time I drove it. Fark now I'm depressed.

I think Fineline is right, having a Skyline IS just a penis extension.....AND I'M LOVIN HAVING A HUGE COCK!!!

57und57und%20powerplant%202_640.JPG

not a real modded car........ but it is daily driven.

your saying that by going to the track all the time to race my car, drift my car, ect i am drawing attention to myself? ffs every time i back outta my garage where im living right now half the f**king town hears about it.

as for real cars drive to the track darren appleton drove drf13 to the track every drift meet, 180go won the high tech shootout at qr and got driven to and from the track. been to a drift event lately? only a handfull of cars are towed there champ.

you can either sit there with ya dick tucked between your legs where its nice and safe and be terrified of the cops or you can man up get ya wang out and go to the track and prove to yaself and others what ya car can do

    • Yep, there's a very minor drift left that happens a few seconds after letting go of the steering wheel, but not enough to bother me. Enjoying the car still!

    • Sounds good.  I don't 100% understand what your getting at here. When you say, "I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down" do you mean this - there is a panel with factory paint, without any prep work, they paint the entire panel with primer, then colour then clear?  If that's what you mean, sure it will "stick" for a year, 2 years, maybe 3 years? Who knows. But at some stage it will flake off and when it does it's going to come off in huge chunks and look horrific.  Of course read your technical data sheet for your paint, but generally speaking, you can apply primer to a scuffed/prepped clear coat. Generally speaking, I wouldn't do this. I would scuff/prep the clear and then lay colour then clear. Adding the primer to these steps just adds cost and time. It will stick to the clear coat provided it has been appropriately scuffed/prepped first.  When you say, "but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat" I am imagining someone not masking up the car and just letting overspray go wherever it wants. Surely this isn't what you mean?  So I'll assume the following scenario - there is a small scratch. The person manages to somehow fill the scratch and now has a perfectly flat surface. They then spray colour and clear over this small masked off section of the car. Is this what you mean? If this is the case, yes the new paint will eventually flake off in X number of years time.  The easy solution is to scuff/prep all of the paint that hasn't been masked off in the repair area then lay the paint.  So you want to prep the surface, lay primer, then lay filler, then lay primer, then colour, then clear?  Life seems so much simpler if you prep, fill, primer, colour then clear.  There are very few reasons to go to bare metal. Chasing rust is a good example of why you'd go to bare metal.  A simple dent, there is no way in hell I'm going to bare metal for that repair. I've got enough on my plate without creating extra work for myself lol.
