hi, first time i'll be changing the oil in the new car (32gtr) and just wondering what these things like best? specially considering it's starting to get pretty cold here in canberra. also, are there any pointers about changing oil on these things or will it be as straight forward as my falcon? cheers guys.

ps, did search this but was surprised not to find anything.

personally I wouldn't use anything other than Motul Chrono 300V 10W40.

for some reason, my motor does not like it

the car had a ticking noise at the top of the engine on cold start when i used to use 300V 10W40.

then did a bit of reading, found out that full synthetic oil can drain from the head...thats why i switched back to 4100.

but my car is only a road car, with a very light tune on it.

cheers guys. advantages of the 10-60w? is it just better in the heat?

In theory yes, heat meaning full race conditions not just a 40degree day, but do you need to spend that much if you are not racing.

Most people agree you need a fully sensethic oil. The nissan manual refers to 15-35w oil. Oils have improved since the manual was made. The lower the first number "generally" means the quicker it lubricates the engine at start up (where most engine damage occurs in a daily driver). Lubrication = protection. Canberra gets real cold in winter, starting a car in sub 0 weather benefits from a lighter oil. For more details and debate on oils see the what oil should I use thread, lots of good reading.

Did all the oils for mine a couple of weeks ago...

motul 300v 10w40 for the engine

red line lighweight shockproof all round for gearbox/front and rear diffs

not enough redline High temp ATF for the transfer case so ended up getting some castrols in there at the moment.

bit costly but drives smoother than ever :)

I've lost two engines using motul 300v doing track days, after the last one i switched two Nulon 15w50 full syn and a dozen track days later still going fine ( over a period of five years )

which 300V and what else changed in that period of 5 years?

10w 40 and two engines, oilcooler on second, unless there's somthing inside this one i don't know about but it should be stock and been in place for 3 years.

The factory workshop manual recommends 7.5w 30 sg grade ( but thats for japans weather ), 4.2 liters without filter change and 4.6 with.

    • Resizing injectors in Nistune can be done a couple of ways, and there are a couple of ways that you can make a mess of it. The tuner needs to be really aware of the effects of whichever approach he uses (either K, or TIM). They are both easy enough to "get the injector size right" to run the engine. But little details like old start enrichment and hot start are affected differently, depending on which boxes you check.
    • Pretty safe to say almost everyone that has tuned their own car has experienced this issue. The difference being that we have our laptop in the car and when it happens, it's literally 10 seconds of tuning to sort it.  Would you be happy to plug in your laptop and sort this yourself? It is a very simple process and there is no risk of harming your engine (if you are worried about that). 
    • Yeah thats the next step now, either they wil or i will take out for a drive to work and go straight their after work and see is we get the same issues 🤞  thought i try my luck here too, never know someone else might have had the same issue but thanks for the reply 
    • Basically your tuner needs to drive it for the 30 min (or whatever) to create the same conditions then check the ECU settings and sensors at that time. They may not be excited to because that takes them 30 min rather than just opening the bonnet and seeing the problem straight away.... Hot start is generally not as tricky as cold start, but there would be a table for fuel enrichment vs coolant temp as a starting point
    • Yeah, they all cant say anything for sure as everything is working fine . Said unable to find an issue untill it stops again. Could mist likely be CAS wiring or IAS valve issue but again not 100%
