It's not that you're a hack, it's that your insane trying to drive that car around that fast. Just dangerous battling with a car like that.... you're car was screaming 'hey attention needed in suspension setup' but you kept ignoring it :ninja: So it bit you... :(

I was driving...locked brakes = driver is a hack :(

I cant trust certain flaggies not to spill the beans. So, the front left wheel was locked good and proper for a moment before the rears locked and went around. I was the tool behind the wheel. Now it happened because even for my car it did something a little unpredictable....probably as small as riding a certain part of the joining surfaces differently from previous laps.

But as Budge said, or was it Harry "Loose is fast, and on the edge is out of control." I was just shy of being fast...but i got the out of control thing right :D

femno you were awesome in that last 2 DT sessions, you and your car look very well sorted!

I found out what the funny noise was in the last session with my car too, My turbo has done the bearings. Time to pull the car down for a rebuild me thinks.

Cheers man thanks, you were doing great too, as was 'ZILLA', we had a good run hehe, in fact i think all of the DTs were doing fairly well!

Your busted turbo is a blessing in disguise....just means you can bolt something bigger on now!

Well, those rims and tyres are going, they aren't suited to the track whatsoever. Might be a while before I hit the track again, because I'm thinking about doing an engine rebuild before bolting on a new turbo...gotta work out some finances

Cheers for showing me the lines though, I loved that back section after the straight :worship:

Another kickass track day by the WRX club, big thanks to all the flaggies and Bec for being event secretary, you looked like a professional!!!

Big congrats to all those with PB's, Ferni kicked ass, 1:22 on his first outing at Sandown is outstanding, well done son I knew you could do it..

Brisby did an awesome job, 1:23 in an RB20 shows that its definetly not a disadvantage having a 2 litre, big downer though in kissing the wall, but seriously by watching your footage at PI I thought it was only a matter of time..

Congrats to all the DT's, looked like you had fun and definetly were hiking it at the end of the day!!!

I was a little dissapointed in not going sub 20's, there was a bit of traffic in 3 of my 5 sessions so really only had 2 sessions with clear runs. There was also a few scary moments in trying to get to the front of the pack, especially at turn 4, sliding sideways into the ripple strip definetly woke me up, and left a few scratches on my front right rim :worship: .. There were a few spectators there to see it aswell, any pics guys??

But I guess my 1:20.2 was enough to stay on top, pipping the datto by 0.3 secs. So being fastest on the day was a bonus...

To finish off here's a vid of my fastest lap, geez Sandown is a very bumpy track, the camera is copping a workout..

Nice work Jack. Interesting that you are in 3rd gear in a couple of spots that I normally use 2nd.

Jesus Ferni, that server on yours is super quick. I was getting 1.3 mb / sec downloads.

Very jealous I wasn't there.

I'm going to the Marque Sports PI day on the 20th of May, can't wait.

Cheers

Andrew

See thats the most disappointing thing. Im not so worried about the car but ppls perception that it was only a matter of time. Looking at the footage it came from nowhere more then being inevitable :worship:

It looks like it was a sudden lock up over the bumps (Ben & JFK said the same thing and matches what Wayne and Mav saw... so odds are they are right) So shouldnt really deter ppl from getting out there and having a ball.

I see your point, but I gues the footage from PI where your car being very unstable on and off the gas may have suggested that there is an issue somewhere in your suspension setup, so I therefore the question is would it have happened if your car was sorted in regards to stability on and off the gass?? Well i guess we'll never know!!!!

Are you sure there wasn't any oil or water which may have caused the lockup??

lol..its all guesswork. But i suppose i dont know if its an issue as such or just the application of what i was trying to use the Whiteline stuff for...so just at the end of their design limits???? Fark, who cares. I learnt that i dont learn...does that still count

Are you sure there wasn't any oil or water which may have caused the lockup??

I dont know. Its possible but its one of the less likely scenarios. Gearbox fluid on the rear tyres is more likely then that, and even that is a bit iffy on some of the reasoning :worship:

I need help editing these laps. i can show you two laps where you can see how the car consistantly moved around a little under brakes (ie same as PI). Then i can show the lap where i went off...they look nothing alike. :laughing-smiley-014: At the end of the day it would not have happened unless i was driving close to my limit and what is probably the cars.

Anyway...bigger and better. This closes out the chapter 1 of "BRI-58Y , Im heading South" . It took 3 years but i finally got lap times i think that do the car justice.

So time to move on to Chapter 2, "I have an itch....and its going to get scratched" :)

Box, engine, brakes and suspension. That little 1600 has inspired me to puch on :)

That's the spirit!

great video Jack! bumpy ride.

Yep, upon later inspection, my camera mount was a little loose... :)

Troy, I like your attitude, there's many who have hit walls and retired, but I know its gonna take a lot more than that to keep you off the track... :)

Dude, you're pulling times only a second or so of some fast GTR's, in a little rwd, 2 litre, gtst...... once you spend more money and sort out the suspension it wouldn't suprise me at all for you to be up there beating some of the fast GTRs....

Awesome to see footage of how a lap is meant to be. Those lines are the ones i _wanted_ to take but just kept stuffing up haha... i'll be watching that a few more times to get it right for next time.

haha yeah its not bad, it maxes out my connection at 800kB/s (stupid no ADSL2+ in my area).

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
